Alright, so my start weight was 208 a month ago. Now I have been pretty inconsistent at the gym, but I have been eating better and amazingly a good diet is not overrated. Somehow I lost ten pounds this past month.

Start weight: 208 lbs 7/15/08

Current weight: 198 lbs 8/15/08

Target weight : 185-190 lbs

Keep it up people! Watch out for soda(pop, soda pop, coke, whatever you want to call it), it's the devil!

Congratulations! I am proud of you! Now you know if you really put your mind (and body) to it, you can do it!

Soda is the devil, you are correct. My new beverage may not be all that much better, but I love Lipton Green Tea with Citrus. I drink the 'diet' version, which has aspartame in it, but not a lot.

I am down 15 pounds as of today (since July 7th). I did 128 floors on the stairmaster last night, but didn't get to put my name on the tote board at the gym. I am too slow... :( Oh, well, I get there eventually. What a sweat-machine that thing is. LOL~

Anybody else still working out?

Six times a week at the gym, alternating cardio and weight training + a very healthy diet, no snacks, no splurges and no alcohol = 18 pounds lost as of today.

Not done yet, but getting stronger every session!

I *heart* my little neighborhood gym, and especially my trainer -- an angel in running shoes. :)

Good job!!

I was on vacation last week W-Sun (But I ran M and Tues) and then was sick the beginning of this week.

On Wednesday though I played 3 softball games and yesterday I had a tough 2 hour tennis match.

Holy hell am I sore today. Seriously. I can't remember the last time EVERY muscle in my body hurt.

I'm hoping to get on my running schedule tomorrow. I have to run a relay marathon in October and my leg is like 6 miles, not bad, but I need to get training.

I've done Wii Fit jogging the past couple days now in the morning (2.5 mi/20 min yesterday, 2.95 mi/20 min today) as I've noticed my weight leveling off a bit (fluctuating between 213 - 215 lbs) and I realize I need to exercise more in the morning before work. I figure if I can get used to the jogging, I'll be in good shape, so to speak. Just can't let myself get discouraged. Jogging in the morning is a good way to wake up though. And considering that I do it with Wii Fit indoors (which reminds me, I should really get a yoga mat or something for it to lessen the impact on my ankles - twisted my left ankle a couple months ago and it hasn't quite healed properly), I can't use inclement weather as an excuse to not do it. I know it's a good workout when I'm drenched with sweat by the end of it.

It's funny, I remember in my freshman year of high school, I had trouble running the mile in less than 12 minutes. Now I can jog almost three times as much in not even twice the amount of minutes. It kicks my ass right now (and my legs have HATED me the past couple of days), but it'll be worth it.

In addition to that, I've been doing jackknifes every day on Wii Fit and have worked myself up to 30 every session this week (when I started them a month ago, I could only do 10/session before I felt like I was gonna die).

So right now, as mentioned before, I've been hovering between 213-215 lbs this week (think I was at 214 today) and my goal is to be down to 200 lbs by the time I visit my family for Christmas. Sounds do-able, right?

14 pounds by December? Easy-squeezy, Edi!!

I agree on the sweat thingie. I know a workout was good when I am dripping wet at the end of it. The owner of my little gym walked past me the other day when I was slaving away on the stairmill (i.e., the machine from Hell!!!), and gave me a thumbs up. "Great sweating!!" he pronounced. I was unaware that one could do that with degrees of excellence, but OK! heh~

Working out is great, but certainly destroys any illusion anyone ever had of me (unlikely) as a fragile flower. I am sweat-pig, and there's nothing dainty about it. But it works, if you really put the effort in.

My un-favorite exercise of the week: the plank. That's the yogalike one, where you think you're gonna die. Try it. this... ack!

My newest fun thing: kettlebell for deadlifts and other strength-training work. They're so cute! :Pkbs

So you were in Clinton Twp?

D'oh, just saw this... Yup, was staying at my parents house which is right around Canal and Garfield. I was able to walk to high school (Chippewa Valley) if that gives you any indication. :P

So, we're going camping this weekend and I'm really nervous about the urge to snack. What's camping without gooey smores, alcohol, and cheetos? Despite having packed a cooler full of chicken brats, apples, peanut butter, hard boiled eggs, string cheese, fresh veggies and whole wheat English muffins, I can't imagine how hard it's going to be not to pop open a beer and stick my hand into a bag of Doritos.

What are everyone's thoughts on how far you can stray from the track before you get off course?

That said, I may still stop at Meijer on the way home to see if they make whole wheat graham crackers and bars of sugar free chocolate.... :)

I'd just hate to have done all this hard work only to have a setback. At least I know I'll get lots of exercise in the form of hikes/canoeing, etc.

Can I come camping wif you? ;) I understand. My best friend (and eating buddy) is coming for the weekend. She will be cool with veggies and fat-free dip, rather than our usual cheese and crackers and other snacks, though. She loves wine. I can do without it, but might have a little glass to keep her company.

When I go to Dallas in a couple of weekends is when I am in trouble. I love the friends I am visiting, but they do tend to pig out and I used to go along with it. Portion control is my friend! Not gonna ruin the fun, but I do expect to "pay" for the weekend with extra work at the gym the next week. Oh, well... gotta live our lives, right?

Have fun this weekend!!!

Honestly? When I lost the 12 pounds before the wedding, each week I allowed myself 1 cheat day. I would usually have a good workout in the morning, be good for breakfast/lunch and limit my calories, but then at night I would have beer and ice cream and chips - whatever people were eating. I still had no problem dropping the weight.

So I say feel free to indulge, just limit it. One smore. A few beers. A few chips. You'll be fine.

Remember, you have to eat 3,500 EXTRA calories to gain a pound. That's pretty hard to do.

I used to do that, too, when I lost 83 pounds 15 years ago. I was much younger then, obviously. But I would be soooo good all week, working out, diet police on patrol, etc. Then on the weekends, I would have a marguerita and chips like everyone else. It didn't make any difference at all in the long run... aside from the fact that I had fun on the weekends, when I might not have if I worried about the extra calories.

I wouldn't be too concerned about the weekend messing with your program, zettermaberg. You sound like you have all the loopholes covered with your healthy food options. Have a great time!!

Also need to remember everyone's metabolism is unique. If I eat 1,500 calories per day + be active I do not lose any weight. It has been hard to function on 1000 caloric intake per day.

I say, never deny yourself actual fun even if you're trying to lose weight. The point of losing weight is to be happier about yourself, right? But you're not gonna be happy if everyone's having a great time getting toasted and you're sitting there by your lonesome sober self munching on celery sticks. I just make sure I stay disciplined at home and at the cafeteria at work and what not, and when I go out I'm not gonna be the one guy complaining about my diet and how I can't have any beer or good food. Besides, if you let yourself go for a weekend maybe it'll help you stay motivated to keep at it the rest of the time.

You are making me feel very jealous and very lazy, even though I'll be working out 4-5 times this week. 4-5 days of exercise a week more often than not, my normal eating habits, but drinking a glass or bottle of alcohol nearly every day basically means that everything has no effect on my weight whatsoever and I never deviate 5+ pounds where I currently am at/where I want to be. :P

Just remember folks, never overindulge like this. :P

When are you up in the Dallas area? I'm probably going up to the Metroplex the weekend following Labor Day Weekend, but it'll probably be more in the Fort Worth area.

I am planning to go Sept. 5-8, Jack. I'll be at Dave and Joyce's (the folks we sat with at the Wings-Stars game). I'll PM you with my cell number. We'll be over in Garland mostly and Dallas proper, but we might meet ya in the middle, as it were. :P

I will be without wheels, thanks to The Company Plane SWA, but call me anyway, OK?

Groovy, if I do go it will be on that weekend and it will be with wheels but I literally might just be there that Saturday and leaving early Sunday morning to save costs since I'm going there primarily to see a game and I know Dallas-Fort Worth like the back of my hand. Haven't decided if I'll take an extra day off of work beforehand or not. Will call if I have time.

Don't normally like to post stuff about me but I feel I have to on this one. I just hope that someone is inspired by this.

In the past 6 weeks, I have lost 15lbs. I am exercising more than I have ever done in my life, riding a bike for an hr 5 days a week, as well as taking whatever I was eating and cutting it down a bit. I would take a large pizza and get 2 meals out of it...now the same pizza is 3 meals...hopefully it will be 4 soon. A box of mac & cheese or regular pasta is supposed to be for 2 meals. I would always eat them as 1 meal. By spiliting it up, it not only has had an impact on my weight but my budget too.

Little things here and there, eliminating sweets as much as I can (maybe allow yourself once a week thing like msudouble does). I have also eliminated pop completely. I would always grab a mountain dew at work and then when done, filled that bottle with water and go thru it like 4 times the rest of the day. Now I just start off with water and keep it going.

Anyway, just wanted to post my story. Hope it encourages someone else to do the same.

Date: 6/16/08

Start weight: 125

Start height: 5'2

Goal weight: 115

End date: 9/15/08

7/9/08: 122

8/11/08: 117

9/3/08: 116

The weight loss has slowed dramatically, but I expected that to happen. The solution is easy: change up the exercise routine. My body is used to everything I'm doing, and I need to shake it up a bit in the next two weeks to break the threshold.

But you know what I've learned since June? That the end number isn't really what's important. I look good. I feel good. I'm eating healthy and making smart food choices. I've proven to myself that I DO have willpower, but that I can give myself a meal to eat what I want and not beat myself up about it. If I go to Hawaii and I weigh 116, it will still be the best I've ever felt and looked - regardless of the last pound. Hitting the goal is great, but overall, I'm just happy that I've come this far and been able to stick with it.

Because I'm probably going to gain it all back with all the drinking and eating and sitting I'll be doing :)

That's the important thing I think, at least it worked with me. I was never just so focused on becoming an exact weight number and if I was one or two pounds over it, I'd be crushed. Never really thought like that. When I lost a lot of pounds years ago, regardless of the amount, it was just that exact feeling you talked about - it felt good to lose a lot of weight and be healthier, regardless of the weight number.

Just remember...beer and alcohol good...beer and alcohol VERY GOOD. :P

As for me, I have barely been able to work out at all recently over the past 2 weeks due to the weather being nuts down here obviously lately. I'm just hoping by next week life will settle down where I'm from and I can get back into a normal routine. I haven't weighed myself on a scale but I probably haven't gained or lost much significantly because I haven't really eaten any big meals during the lack of exercise or fast food, and the stress of the weather down here has probably kept my weight at bay.

Great job zettermaberg and timothy!! Sounds like you've both done a great job!

I'm still working on getting back on track. I've officially gained 6 pounds since the wedding - but I lost 12 before, so I guess I'm still down 6 on the year.

My work has a fitness challenge starting next week so I'm hoping that will get me motivated to get off my butt!

^^^

I'm working on getting back on track as well. I was down to about 167. Last time I checked I was at 173, and that was before last weekend, which didn't help. My problem as been A) I live farther from my gym. I used to live 3 minutes, now I live 15; B) work has really been picking up for both myself and the fiancee. We're just drained at the end of the day, the last thing we want to do is battle the crowd to work out.

I don't think I'm going to make my target weight of 150 by my wedding. But if I can get back in 165 range, I'll be happy enough.
