Guest Tunbo Batman Report post Posted April 15, 2007 Everyone on this topic is saying "oh I don't know why he coverd up his face" I know why... I get the strangest feeling that wasn't the most fun thing he ever experinced i wonder if Cherry has done enough research to be even aware of that incident? seriously, he could have noticed the 46 shotrs on goal, the complete domination of Lidstrom over Iginla, the Wings increase in grit, anything like that. but no, he noticed that shot block. no wonder he never had any success in the NHL. if you can't play, or coach, you can always be an analyst i guess. No, I take it back, he had some limited success in the NHL as a coach 35 years ago and a player like 50 years ago. He knows what it's like to have pucks fired at you with those non-composite, all wooden, non-curved sticks with his one NHL game experience.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 better than going down to block a shot with your face towards the shot. Thats how MacTavish was teaching his players to do it was it not?? Id rather cover my face to block a shot than risk a busted up nose, mouth, cheek, etc. And that's one reason why Grapes like MacTavish, yet all of his players hate him. Guest Tunbo Batman Report post Posted April 15, 2007 MacTavish? who's that? ...oh, the idiot who had one good year as a coach and instantly became arrogant? the one who lead his powerful team to a record 71 points this year? yeah i remember now.

sibiriak 84 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 ... But, alas, the likes of Vladdy and a young Fedorov are long gone and the mold has been broken, now all we get out of Russia are skilled players. Which we accept... ... Why on Earth would you import a goon or a cheker from overseas, when you have hundreds available in Canada and US? Why import a player who would need to learn different language, culture, and hockey style, if you don't expet him to develop beyond the 3rd line? That's why proportionatly more European NHL players are "skilled", and proportionatly more "checking" NHL players come from North America. There's just no reason to import, when you can buy in bulk domestically.
VladyIBELIEVE16 257 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 Come on BOYS get your CRAP together during this intermission and come out firing on all cylinders in the 3rd the way you did in the FIRST!! You have this game!!! LETS GO WINGS!!!! (dot com)
sibiriak 84 Report post Posted April 15, 2007 In the regular season. In the last year playoffs, Datsyuk blocked 6 shots in 6 games, which was more than Iginla, Lecavalier, and Zetterberg, the same as Draper and Maltby, and Staal blocked 13 shots in 25 games, so Datsyuk blocked more shots per game than Stall as well. You may want to actually examine the stats first , before using the cliche "not in the playoffs" about everything that Datsyuk does.

Lidstromrules16 7 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 People, people, we have Andraes Lilja on our team. We should feel privalaged that Dats even attempted to block a shot. With that pillar Lillypad on our team, he should be blocking all of our shots!

adamic 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 I don't think i'll ever understand what he's got against Euro's , I mean sure there's alot of skilled players from europe but there's been a few tough guy's too. Do you guy's think he just use's this to stir up a bit of controversy or is old Don too stupid to do something like that ? He is the biggest idiot ever. He makes all canadians seem stupid. By the way, he never blocked a shot and I doubt he ever had a woman. He's into men if you ask me. What a loser.

My God, I thought he was having an orgasim the way he kept talking about Neil.
Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 I remember a few years ago Cherry calling Maltby a sissy (or something like that) during a Wings game in Toronto, because Malts wears a visor. The announcer after the game ask Malts what he thought of Cherrys' comment, and he said "I don't give a damn what Cherry has to say, I would like to see him say it to my face". I will never forget that on HNIC, and I think Malts even had a goal that night at the ACC. Does anyone else remember that??
Henrik The Great 0 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 As Datsyuk continues to score in the playoffs, the haters on his contract will surely go away just as fast. The worst thing that could happen to Red Wing opponents these playoffs, was for Datsyuk to get that goal in game 1. The flood gates are now open and he is playing with a great level of confidence. Personally, I don't care what Pavel covers up when he's diving to block shots....as long as he's still diving to block shots. He's there to score, play solid defense and win face-offs. If he wants to cover his balls and face as he drops to the ice in an effort to block a 90mph shot, then so be it.

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 Grapes also thinks we care about the words coming out of his mouth. Since we started a topic about what a jerk he is, isn't that considered as caring? It's not like Grapes reads these boards anyways. It's just fun to make fun of him though, since theres so many different ways to do it. His hate for Euros, French Canadians, non gritty players, players with visors, and players that don't block shots is now becoming just a joke that he gives us so we can make fun of him. He should know by now that a team full of goonish fighters (which is the way he built his teams while still a coach) doesn't win anymore. Hence, the 2006-2007 Philadelphia Flyers as a fine example. I never take Grapes seriously anymore. He is getting worse and worse every year he gets older. I really only watch him now for comical purposes, kinda like how I read Eklunds blog. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted April 16, 2007 Anaheim Ducks They have enough talent surronding those players though. Unlike the Flyers. If Grapes was GM on that team, he'd replace Selanne and McDonald for Jeremy Yablonski and Reed Low. And whenever Grapes gives compliments to the Ducks, he never once mentions guys like Selanne. Yet, he says what a good job George Parros (Mario Mustache) has done, which was really nothing except drop the gloves. I love having fighters on the team, and I love fighting, but in Grapes eyes, you only win with those type of players, and that is simpily not the case. The Ducks are known for their fighting, but they have a lot of skilled guys also. The teams Grapes likes are teams like the Flyers, who have very little talent but a lot of fighting. The Ducks have a lot fighting, but at that same time they also have a lot of skilled guys, which is why their so successful.
