Apparently Shanny would rather play nowhere else. We'll I say "good riddance ya loonie"

"I think that's just something you battle through," Avery said. "Those (excuses) are for guys like Sidney and guys that have to keep themselves in the media, saying they weren't hurt or they were hurt. I love when guys are done and say they were hurt or they had the flu.

Haha Crosby

Good riddance because he wants to play with the Rangers for a 2nd year and because he's not with the Red Wings anymore? Wow..................

I remember when a big majority of posters in here waiting for him and Wings management to move in different directions (ultimately Shanahan), and be very happy when that happened over the summer.

I mean, heaven forbid he do what he wants to do with his life and career. No, he should do what us fans tell him to do. Look I appreciate Shanny for all he did for the Wings in nearly 10 years, he's a helluva player, and I love the Red Wings. But life is not all about the Wings 24-7-365.

As a wings fan I reserve the right to bad-mouth any big-name player that decides against playing for the Wings.

You blaspheme!

Drat I got caught.

Your right? Come on now, this isn't law we're talking about.

Instead of saying my right, I am going to then say it is of my opinion, not just as a Wings fan but as your ordinary Joe Blow on the street that has some hockey I.Q., that I strongly, strongly disagree with saying good riddance to a guy who helped this organization to 3 Cups, never did anything quirky or awkward off the ice to give him any bad publicity to the fans, and so forth. I'm sorry, but you are wrong here.

(And please for the love of god let's not turn this into a Shanny vs. Fedorov thread on how they left, that was not my intention of this post and we have beaten this topic senless at least 6 or 700 times).

That's immature. The guy wants to play for the Rangers, who cares? You're sounding like someone who hoped his ex-girl would leave her new flame and happen to come back to you.

Be happy for the guy. He wants to play in NYC, that's cool, that's great. I don't get why you feel you're entitled to having him be a Wing. I feel like I'm stepping on Crymson's toes right now with the How To Live Life Police act (sorry Crym!), but seriously, let go. Not a big deal.

Holy cow people are freaking out. I'm happy for Shanny, don't get me wrong, and I really, honestly don't care where he plays. I have to admit though, the real reason why I posted this was because of the paragraph on Crosby (anyone who remembers any of my posts will remember a significant amount of pointless Crosby bashing), but Shanahan is the real topic of the article, and thus I posted the topic about him, and trust me, when I say "Good riddance ya loonie" I mean it in the best possible way (as a matter of fact its a quote from Toy Story, which is the best possible movie).

I think it actually helped our club in a long term that he left. He is certainly past his prime and maybe we should give our young guns a chance (and look what happened this spring)

Maybe he knew this too... whatever, I'll never forget what he has done for our team.

Would we have retired his number if he finished his career here? Likely not. Would I, for selfish reasons, have preferred he retired a Wing? Sure. Something about donning the jersey of somebody that opted to play elsewhere makes me uncomfortable (and I almost bought one of the official fight strap Shanahan jerseys too) but I'm hardly mad at the guy. He was one of my favorite Red Wings, no doubt, but they can't all live and die Detroit like Yzerman. The Rangers are his fifth team, but when he hangs them up he'll have played more games as a Wing than he did for any other team, and that isn't so bad.

We can all hope that Datsyuk, Zetterberg, Kronwall, (and if he realizes his potential, Howard) all retire Wings, but how many of us expect all of them to? We'd be lucky if one or two do. Extremely lucky. So I won't get too upset with Shanny for not sticking with the fourth team he'd played for, even though he was here for almost a decade and won three cups here. He did his part for those cups, the Yzerman tackle of '02 is probably my favorite "dynasty era" memory, and I'd rather be thankful for that than bitter that he didn't retire here.

Avery is such a prick. I cant believe he called out Crosby... If Avery was HALF the player Crosby was. Nope - he will be a subpar player for the rest of his career, and everyone will ALWAYS hate him. Nice life, loser.

That's Avery's thing, and he's great at it. Crosby has shown tendencies to be a bit of a whiner. He IS a great player but he still needs to show class.

As much as I distest Avery, I love how he is always doing his job. Even after his team has been eliminated from the playoffs, the guy is running his mought. Do I respect him? No. Do I like how he plays the game? No. I compare him to Malts, in the he is a pest on the ice, and draws a lot of penalties. I remember a stat from a late regular season game this year, it was on VS, Avery drew more penalities this year than anyone. Then they showed another stat, I forget what it was called, but it is the equivelant to +/- for penalties, and Avery was also a higher plus than any other player in the league.

I know this guy is pretty much a joke when it comes to speaking out. But, I hate Crosby, so I will side with him on this one. If Sid the kid is so good, a fracture in the foot wouldn't, and shouldn't have slowed him down as much as it did in the playoffs. Just for reference, I know it's not at the same level, but I have played with a broken foot before. It's painful, but once you get that skate on, and tighten it up real good, you don't even think about it. That is unless you take a stick or puck off the foot. I'm a Dman, so it's not an uncommonc thing to get hit in the foot. I've played through several breaks. The worst being a broken big toe. When you are skating backwards, that's what you push off with.

My point? I'm no where near teh level of talent that Crosby has. If I can play through it and not have it effect my game little if at all, so should he. Plus he has the benifit of pain killers in liquid form injected on sight!

I read this in the paper too...I mean, honestly what is he supposed to say? "There's no where else I'd rather play. Except maybe for Detroit. But other then them, no where"

Of course he would say that, he pretty much has to. Shanny's a good guy and hopefully his #14 will hang from the rafters next to 19 and of course 5 one day.

I have to also add that as much as avery could be prick, he did wonders for the rangers...

As far as Shanny goes, good for him. I live in NYC and got a chance to see the rangers versus the wings (wings won woo hoo) this year and fans looove shanny in NY, probably as much as fans loved him in Detroit..... one of my favorite wings ever....

Crosby will sit out the tournament to let a broken bone in his left foot heal.

“It would have been a huge thrill for me to play for Team Canada again, especially in Moscow, which is a place I’ve always wanted to play,” he said.

A bone was broken in Crosby’s left foot when he blocked a shot in a game about a month ago. He played through the injury to become the youngest player in NHL history to win a scoring title with 120 points (36+84).

“It’s been a month. The first two weeks were pretty sore,” he said. “After a couple weeks, it starts to heal and it got a little better after that. It just needs time.

“I think it happened when we played Montreal [March 16],” he continued. “It didn’t really affect my play. Maybe the first couple weeks, on the perimeter not blocking shots, but after the first couple weeks, it didn’t have any effect.”

-------------------------------------------

I dont read anywhere that Crosby played injury card excuse do you? I love how Avery does his job criticizing crosby who pretty much had to reveal injury for turning down team canada invitation yet he himself disclose injury?

Such a masterful job that Avery is doing. If Crosby challenge Avery to fight next season that would be hilarious

Um, the Rangers offered him a better deal. Shanny will always be a Wing at heart. I rooted for the Rangers just because of him. Let's get realistic- his exit was not "Federovish". He's near the end of his career, his best buddy, linemate, and captain of 10 years retired, and the Wings made it clear they were pursuing a new direction after the lockout and another early playoff exit. I don't see how you can badmouth the guy unless you're just being ignorant.

I wish him luck with the Rangers - and they get a heck of a teamate in Shanahan. You don't have to hate every ex-wing there is out there. I was as sad as anyone when he left, but no hard feelings....

I love Shanny and I am very happy for him. He has said before he always wanted to play in New York. He stayed faithful to Yzerman and the Wings. I will miss that silly little Irish Jig!!!!

I love Avery too!!!!

I'm glad that Shanny's found a place that he feels fits him well.

And as much as I miss the guy, I'm torn about wanting him back. Sure, the sentimental side of me says bring him back, but if we do, that's one MORE roster spot taken away from one of the younger guys.

Shanny saw that it was time for both the team and himself to move on. And I applaud him for doing so in as classy way as he did. He's a shoe in for the Hall of Fame.

You know, about Shanny, it's been a full season and I still have a hard time looking at him in a Rangers uni, it hasn't sunk in.

Shanny was my favourite player for a long ass time.
