yeah because 90% of wings fans around the country (not det.) are bandwagoners and only liek them because they were good for 5 straight years

there the yankees of hockey

That is the biggest load of bulls*** I've ever heard. You sir are perhaps one of the biggest morons that has ever surfaced on this board.

The Wings have been a consistantly good team for 16 years now. That's how many times they've made the playoffs in a row. They are also one of the most successful teams of the modern era by winning 3 Cups in 10 years. Only the New Jersey Devils have come close with 3 Cups of their own.

Pretell what is it that Anaheim has done? Exactly what? They went to the SCF one year and lost. Oh, but wait! THE DUKS GO TO TEH CONFERENCE FINALZ!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!111 Like that really means anything. What matters is who wins the Cup, and Anaheim has yet to do that.

...And before you sit on your high horse and call us bandwagoners, where were Ducks fans during the years when they blew dick across the league and where one of the worst teams around? That's right, there weren't any. But after a few years of decent success, oh I'd say about 5 YEARS (sound familier?) they all come out and start going. You guys don't go watch when the Ducks suck either. So doesn't that consider you bandwagoners also? Doesn't it?

See you dont know socal at all.

I live in Orange County and for 90% of sport fans out here you have to be winning and one of the best teams in the league to have a great attendance.

Perfect example, Lakers sellout every game for last 10 years yet a year ago more people started going to Clippers games cause they were doing better then the Lakers. I mean come on the Clippers? I love them but they have one of the worst owners in sports period.

And to let you know i have been a Ducks fan since day one. i have had 20 game packs every since since 2000 and id have season seats but cant afford them because im a broke college kid. To call me a bandwagoner is stupid! All the bandwagoners left this forum after the 1st game of the series. I have been on this forum everyday and will continue to post on it. I stick up for my Ducks and always will be a Ducks fan.

I personally HATE everything about socal except the weather. Socal fans are the worst fa ns in sports in the world! Theres just alot more to do in Socal then anywhere else in America.

I saw a lot of empty seats last night.

To be fair, the game did start at 6 o'clock their time. Also, I dunno if you guys have ever been to California in the LA area, but the traffic is friggin ridiculous 24/7.

I think people started to show up, but at the same time those who were there ontime started to leave because their team was getting blown out.

Here is something I read on the ducks site I thought was stupid by one fan then another fan adds a comment about pronger that tells the other fan he always does this.

I may jus be a villain around here but I was laughing and applauding that double-sandwich hit by Pronger and R-Nieds. I don't give a you-know-what about Detroit or their players. I've been saying it all along, the NHL jus hates the Ducks. Everyone jus wants us to lose. By the looks of things, we will lose Game 4 and go down 3 games to 1. I can only hope looks are deceiving.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Would you feel the same way if some of those very Detroit players which you so strongly hate, ended up as Ducks at some point? I seriously doubt it. If that happened, my bet is you'd be ready to talk nothing but sunshine about them.

At least I have said the things I've said about Pronger, even when he did play for my team.

I can't stand the Wings. It's inherent in every Blues fan from birth; however, there was no need for that crap last night and Pronger is a master at it. If you're going to slam the crap out of someone like that, be a man, let them see you coming at them. Don't pull that pansy-arse hit-you-while-you-can't-see-me garbage. He's infamous for those kinds of hits and he continues to do them.

You cannot justify that kind of behavior, no matter how much you may love your team. I'm all about physical hockey and putting the smash on people but not when they can't see the nearly 7-foot train wreck that's about to happen to them.

Hockey...I like it, I love it, I want more of it!

Why don't you crawl back into your hole? The Red Wings have been in the playoffs for how many straight years? Since you're too stupid to answer that, I'll do it for you. Including this year, they've been in 16 straight years. Most Red Wings fans who do not live in MI like myself are natives who moved out of state for job reasons and continue to support the Wings.

It's better to be thought a fool than to open your mouth and confirm it.

this is my first post..band wagoners?!?!...um....yeah.....and i'm trying very hard atm to contain the distain i have for your total lack of tact. I personally have been a fan of the wings for over 15 years and i've NEVER lived in MI. (married to a man from the UP though) Never been to a game at JLA but i will pay what ever it takes to see them play here in AZ....yeah AZ... Most fans of the wings are fans not because of the "big hits" or the fights or any of that utter bulls*** but because the team and it's fans are very respectful of the game and it's rules. The RW's have been good for a lot longer than 5 years hell over the pittly 15 years i've enjoyied being a fan of theirs. As for RW being the Yankees of Hockey? WTF are you talkin about? explain this to me please cause i'm dying to understand.

whatever dude. I've liked the Wings since hockey came to Colorado. Sorry I'm only 20, so I guess I don't fit your criteria for having to like a team for a certain ammount of years. How about paying like $250 bucks for the nhl ticket yearly. How about getting crap regularly for wearing a Wings hat or jersey in Colorado, even from my family. I don't want to tell a sob story or anything, but come on man. To say that fans from outside of MI are bandwagoners is really dumb. Plus, the Wings repeated twice in the mid to late 90's, so they've been good for more than just the 5 years you claim

listen guy, ive said it b4 when the ducks sucked ass hockey was new to orange county, having a good team is a way to build up a fan base...u cant just start a team and expect to sell out every game...give it time, im pretty sure after this year we will be having a long sellout streak...

I'd say the Ducks have been good for a few years now. Maybe this is your best team, but you guys have been a good team in the West for more than a year

well yeah in 03 but when the lockout happened it lost fans out here, not saying there were tons but you know what i mean, last year the fan based was big and this year probably biggest in their franchise...most likely due to pronger coming to anaheim...it sucks when ur a die hard ducks fan and majority of ur friends dont even watch hockey...

"dude we picked up pronger from edmonton"...

"who the hell is pronger?"

yeh got that alot lol.....now pronger is a household name out here...

Why would the NHL want a team in tone of the biggest markets in the country to lose? Some of the logic from these people is mind boggling.

Should "Bandwagon" fans root for a losing team, is that the point?

The Wings are an original 6 team, how can anyone not expect them to have a huge following outside of Detroit.

Since 1991(16 years):

3 Cups (10 all-time)

4 Finals appearances (21 all-time)

6 Conference finals (8 all-time since 1968)

16 Playoff appearances (55 all-time)

11 Division Championships (26 all-time)

5 Presidents Trophies

One of the Best Players to ever play the game

Steve Yzerman (Not to mention Howe)

51 Hall of Famers

Trophies

1 Jack Adams (3 all-time)

1 Masterson (2 all-time)

1 Lady Byng (11 all-time)

4 Selke

5 Norris (6 all- time)

1 Hart (8 all-time)

3 Conn Smythe (4 all -time)

5 all time Calder

5 all-time Vezina

What is so hard to understand?

History+Success= More fans.

I like the fact that the Red wings are called the yankees of the NHL, since our team has a budget of 200+ million and the owner is an insane man that will do anything to win one last championship before hes too old to wipe himself by buying the best players in the MLB even though they never pan out...Or if you actually look at it we fall well within the Salary cap, and the owner of the wings has taken 2 teams (the Wings and the Tigers) that when he first got ahold of them were losing teams to sucess threw good trades, aquiring underrated free agents and devolping people in the farm system. Yea, looks like we are the yankees.

theres no way in hell the pronger hit was worst then what booguard was doing during the wild-ducks series. he was throwing legs out everywhere. i think almost every duck fan can agree with me on this one because we have watched every second of every game and know what has happened to the ducks and the teams they have played. frankly most of you are bias when you talk about the holmstrom hit and i dont blame you i think everyone is when it comes to there team. but the fact of the matter is that pronger wasnt going around looking for someone to hurt he was simply following a hit. i mean for christ sake holmstrom was outskating pronger and odds are pronger would not have caught him. it was rob that cut him off and forced a quick reaction out of pronger. you can watch the reply a hundred times and see exactly what i am talking about. And if there is someone to put a little blame on it should be the refs of that game. probably the msot one sided reffed game i have ever seen in the playoffs. the ducks had no chance to make any type of comeback or gain any momentum. i believe it was just under 13 minutes penalized of the 2nd period to the ducks. thats almost a quarter of the game that was on the penalty kill for the ducks just in the 2nd period alone. thats just ridicilous to say the least. yes the ducks did take penalties in the 2nd but the wings got away with a few noncalls that later resulted in a wings powerplay. if you call 6 straight penalties you have to return the favor to the opposite team and give them a chance in the game. just an unwritten rule that was completely not put in use yesterday and makes alot of people feel like all the refs drove a car with a michigan plate with a detroit red wings license plate cover lol

justtheducks, what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

UH yeah you can expect to sellout games and the Ducks did if you really watched them in 93-4. Minnesota instantly soldout games when they re-appeared. The ducks sucked but they instantly had a good fanbase. The bandwagon disappeared after a few seasons and then they started having problems with attendance. What i find surprising was their fanbase disappeared when they actually started going to playoff games with the dynamic duo. The duck fans really only started showing up in 2002-3 and actually disappeared after that and left the team high and dry with their true fanbase which is closer to 11,000 then the 17,174 the building holds. They've done much better this year and all indications are they will have a good, not great fanbase from here on out.

I'm a long time, born and raised Wings fan from MI now in So Cal....and I can honestly say that during the regular season, you can go to any Wings, Blackhawks, Wild, etc.... game at the Ponda Center, and you'll see 1/2 of the crowd in the visiting teams jerseys. There are tons and tons of people living here who are transplants from 'back east' with their loyalties still intact. Hockey just isn't that coveted out here. Basketball...yes, Baseball...yes, Hockey....no (at least not yet). The playoffs are not shown on local stations, it barely ever gets mentioned on the local sports shows, and when it does, the sportscasters cannot pronounce Giguere to save their lives. It just doesn't matter to the vast majority of native californians. Hopefully, that can change.

I got tickets for the two very sad games in the 03 playoffs, the day of the game. The only thing thrown on the ice at that time was an occasional octopus when Detroit scored. We actually had Ducks fans asking us what that was and why they were doing it? I haven't been able to score playoff tickets this year, since the bandwagon has taken away the seats, and while I would have loved to see the 5-0 rout....I would have been extremely embarassed to see the trash fly, and the cheering during the injury. All you would find at the Joe is utter silence and respect for the injured, and huge applause when that player got up under his own power.

In short, THROW OCTOPI, NOT TRASH!!!!

PS-I'm also a newb to the site, but Detroit will always be in my heart. Am wearing my #16 jersey at work today as i write this.

The Minnesota Wild have never not sold out a game. Thats preseason, regulaur season, and post season. and thats saying A LOT since they either have success with playing a trap (in other words, they win playing a highly defensive and boring style of play that limits shots and scoring chances to a minimum for both teams) or they just dont have success. This year was a little different because Gaborik and Demitra provided offense and they were moderately successful, even though being born and raised in Detroit, I would call one playoff win in a series thats already 3-0 in the opposition's favor very disappointing.

1) if Pronger did that kind of s*** while with the Oilers last year i would NOT be defending him. It's not a matter of team bias, its a matter of common sense. If you had any common sense, you'd see that on the hit on Holmstrom, Pronger's elbow was clearly driven to the back on Homer's head. Don't use that "Pronger was just trying to finish a hit" argument. That's a load of bull. Since when do you finish hits with elbows to the head?

2) STOP with all the frickin "ITS ALL THE REFS FAULT BLAHBLAHBLAHBLAH" bull. the refs aren't responsible for anything except calling the penalties as they see 'em. Maybe if your Ducks hadn't taken all those stupid penalties you wouldn't be whining right now. the only wrong call i saw was the one on Niedermayer regarding the major and the game misconduct. and the whole "unwritten rule" thing, excuse me while i ROFL.

Here are a couple from ducks fans on TSN:

Maybe Holmstrom shouldn't play the way he does if he doesn't want to be a target. His non-stop cheap play just got cashed in on him. When games go this way the heavy hits of frustration soon follow. They should be the Winey Wings with all the complaining they do and then there is Hasek. It would be a disgrace to the cup to have this group of crybabies etched upon it.

Theme of this years playoffs .... REFS and powerplays determine cup outcome. Whatever happened to the teams deciding the outcome??? I really hope the wings don't win the cup. They symbolize EVERYTHING that is wrong with the "new nhl".

I guess they can't say we the Cup anymore, so now the refs are giving it to us. Obviously the idiot who wrote that didn't watch the game since only one of the goals was a pp goal. Maybe if the Duck don't want to give us powerplays they should stop playing goon hockey.
