Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted May 31, 2007 the guy wins the award for leadership? he walks out early on the handshakes that every player and coach takes part of yeah real great leader! Yeah he is a great leader. Emotions run high during these times anyway, but they run even higher when you totally outplay AND outclass a team, and yet lose the series. The Ducks continuous classless play towards the Wings more then justifies Cheli walking the hell out. And this award was chosen by Mark Messier himself. So obviously he didn't have any problem with what Cheli did. Gee I wonder why? Could it be that Messier has eyes and seen all the bullsh*t from the lame ducks? Couldn't be. Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 Congrats to Chelios. A true warrior. I'm kinda surprised he got it. Chelios is a great leader, but plays on a Western Conference team. Most of these awards are usually chosen by the idiots club on Versus (the panel), and are usually reserved for players in the Eastern Conference. Nice to see them finally break the trend. FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 (edited) Hey, OJ killed a couple folks and that doesn't change the fact that he was a great RB. So Cheli missed skipped the handshakes, doesn't change the fact that he was a great leader all year. Edited May 31, 2007 by FireCaptain

T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 Congratulations to Chelios..... But this title should read "Chris Chelios wins the Steve Yzerman leader of the year award" How Messier got his name on a leadership trophy over Yzerman is beyond me.....
Guest ZDH Report post Posted May 31, 2007 Congratulations to Chelios..... But this title should read "Chris Chelios wins the Steve Yzerman leader of the year award" How Messier got his name on a leadership trophy over Yzerman is beyond me..... Yzerman is my favourite player of all time. But no one can question Messier's leadership. I mean it speaks for itself. He won 6 Cups for crying out loud and was an integral part of each one of them. RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 If you listen very carefully, you can hear the entire Vancouver Canucks fanbase booing... Video of Cheli in Vancouver sticking it to the Canucks fans in 2002 - just too damn funny! Compliments of Norrisnick on youtube. I could lmao at this all night.... Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted May 31, 2007 Congrats to Cheli http://www.nhl.com/nhl/app/?service=page&a...rticleid=314683 Great for Chely. What's funny about this is how ecstatic everyone is when I clearly remember most folks around here thought this was the stupidest thing ever because it wasn't named after Stevie. So a Wing wins it and now everybody is happy. I find that funny. Congratulations to Chelios..... But this title should read "Chris Chelios wins the Steve Yzerman leader of the year award" How Messier got his name on a leadership trophy over Yzerman is beyond me..... Hey, you brought it up. So debate it. Why oh why should Yzerman have it and not Messier. And if you give me the "played for only 1 team line" I think i'll vomit. Chely just won the damn award and he played for Montreal, Chicago and Detroit so I don't wanna hear any 1 team forever crap. Has nothing to do with leadership. Vladinator 0 Report post Posted May 31, 2007 if they are actually hockey fans, they will appreciate a treasure like Cheli. Had Chelios been given ANY award in Detroit prior to him coming here, he would have been boo'ed like there was no tomorrow...before coming here, the hatred for him was higher only for 1 other player in the league (the turtle)...so I guess that means that us in Detroit aren't actually hockey fans??? Imagine Pronger receiving such an award here in Detroit for example... And before you go off saying that Chelios and Pronger are completely different, they aren't. Chelios was WELL KNOWN for his cheap shots for years...I can recall quite a few very dirty hits from his days in Chicago...
