Ken Daniels may be considered for Hockey Night in Canada job

Dunno whether Daniels would do it...

But from the beginning of that article, it looks like most of this board owes Versus, and Bettman, an apology.

A CBC broadcast truck almost caught fire during the network's telecast of the NHL Awards show from the Elgin and Winter Garden Theatre in Toronto.

Technical problems resulted, the worst of which affected Versus in the United States. The overheated CBC truck caused transmission difficulties forcing the U.S. cable channel to cancel its live telecast. Instead, it aired a World Combat League show and carried a tape delay of the NHL show at 11 p.m. EDT.

didnt he work for HNIC earlier in his career? why would he want to go back after coming to do wings games?

maybe he wants to go home ? not like he that far away anyways....

I also think he could juggle it, HNIC is once a week ALWAYS on Saturday night, chances are Wings might not be playing that night, or if they are they can get someone like Larry Murphy to fill in for him. Toronto and Detriot is really close so I wouldn't see a problem with lending Daniels to HNIC for 1 night a week ;)

:clap::clap::clap:

I will be glad he is gone! Hope it happens. Anyone that chooses to use the word "love" in describing the score of a hockey game should be beaten and forced to join "The Bare Naked Ladies" as their costume mistress & help dress that fat little geek of a singer.

I would be glad to buy his ticket out of here!

why does anyone owe Bettman an apology? Versus still treats the NHL like its ugly step-child.

I cut them slack at first because the deal came together so last second, but their handling of the NHL has hardly improved.

And a real network like ESPN would've had their own broadcast truck at the event instead of just piggybacking CBC's. I also don't get how the technical difficulties hit CBC the hardest, yet they still managed to get their broadcast out live (or close to it) yet it was Versus who was affected in such a way they had to delay several hours.

See this would be great for me, I never see Daniels anyway because I don't have FSN. I just can't picture him commentating for any other team besides the Wings.

Larry Murphy calling the games? I don't think so. Play by play is a different beast than commentating. That would be a trainwreck. As for him pulling off both he could do it. Emrick does Versus/NBC and does Devils games during the season. Granted he doesn't do that often but those national games are one time a week thing. But would he be the next #1 after Cole leaves? Jim Hugson wouldn't be next in line since he is the #2 guy on CBC after they canned Cuthbert.

What he said......

I suspect that Versus will not pick up the third year of the contract. Leaving the NHL in a bad position..... crawl back to ESPN and take any bone they want to throw.... or try to work out something with, maybe Fox Sports..... lots of the local broadcasts on Center Ice go thru the Fox affiliates anyway.

Older article, but interesting read about the media deal, OLN/Versus, and Comcast. Between the lines, I can now see why Charter wanted to dump Versus.... who wants to pay the competition?

Well said  To answer the question, yes Daniels did work for CBC before coming to the wings. I would think it is every hockey announcers dream job to work for HNIC. Maybe I am being negative but I never really liked Ken. I forget his name, but i always liked the man that came before him.

indeed. the radio simulcast on 97.1 has vastly improved my life. Ken Kal and Paul Woods are much better. Kal actually has enthusiasm for the game unlike Daniels who is only concerned with repeating his allegedly entertaining anecdotes and being a know it all. As much I like Redmond, the constant complaining about the officiating is getting quite old. Woods is very fair, and very honest. You won't find a better analyst.

And if Daniels leaves, maybe Dave Strader could be lured back from Florida.

Well, it seems to be a year away so I am not gonna sweat this.

I do like Ken Daniels though. Expect that one time Mickey got him a tie for a present (don't remember what for) and he wouldn't put it on!! Mickey was all excited to see him put it on too!! What a punk!! j/k
