Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 That could very well happen, assuming the Wings actually use their pick this year. Next to Swedes, the Wings do draft a lot of American College players. Cross does seem to get good reviews in the scouting reports, so he might be worth it.

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 (edited) No relation to Cory Cross RIGHT? I figured someone would bring that up. Only I thought we'd see a Cory Cross sucks joke thrown in there, so I'm quite disappointed. They are not related. Cory Cross was born in Edmonton. Tommy Cross was born in America. Not sure on the city, but I know they are not related. Edited June 20, 2007 by Kp-Wings

That was actually the lowest number in the entire NHL and the next closest teams (TOR and MTL) drafted 6 apiece. Source: http://www.cstv.com/sports/m-hockey/stories/061307aab.html The Wings basically ignore the college ranks--which is really strange being that there's a half dozen teams in their own backyard. -Tim

Fine by me. http://www.tsn.ca/nhl/feature/?fid=11054&hubname= I don't think it's going to happen. They need c-men more than they need young d-men.I see them drafting a right winger if they keep there pick. Guest Agalloch Report post Posted June 20, 2007 Another defenseman. What a surprise. And honestly, I expect another defenseman as well, though I don't think that we should take one. If we do end up taking one, I hope it's Petrecki.

I guess not then. Yep, so since he's not a Swede, I don't he'll be coming here. Sven Jonsson would be more like it, or any player with a swedish sounding name. The only advantage would be he'd score on his first shot on his first shift. But nothing after that... (Better?)
Guest DetroitIan Report post Posted June 20, 2007 I think the Wings are going for defense as well. It just makes sense. Even though we have an awesome core of defenseman, we also have to make sure when some of our guys retire, we have suitable replacements to step up. Hopefully Cross is just what we need in the future.
LeftWinger 5,151 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 ...well, it's settled then, well all like Cross, he's North American, more specifically, American, he's over 6' and at 18 by the time he makes the NHL he will be well over 200 lbs. Done deal... ...that means that Ken Holland will draft Haken Peupen with their first round pick...
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 ...that means that Ken Holland will draft Haken Peupen with their first round pick... Considering Detroit's last four 1st and 2nd round picks have been Jakub Kindl(CZE), Justin Abdlekader(US)Shawn Mattais(CAN), and Cory Emmerton(CAN), I'd say your logic of drafting a small skilled SWEDE is leaning a little towards the old cliche. Was Jimmy Howard a first rounder? I thought they took him with the 20 something pick. Will check on it though! Edit: Howard was 64th overall pick in second round, I was wrong!! rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 (edited) So he's smart AND a good player? Sign me up! Quoted for truth. I know you're referring to him liking Lidstrom when you say he's smart. But he really is a smart player. Sounds like he can do a bit of everything: run the PP, hard shot, good skater, pro-size already, looks after his own end first, has a mean streak, uses his size along the boards and to clear the (edit) crease. A complete defencemen. I think Detroit's #1 priority is a big center, but if there are no decent options at #27, then Cross would be perfect. Oh, and I'd take him over Aliu. Although Aliu has great upside, I think Cross would be the more sure-fire bet to be a solid NHLer. Edited June 20, 2007 by rick zombo

I want them to take Pacioretty. He sounds like he's going to be nasty, and it'd be nice to see a Wolverine end up on the Wings for once. But he's a college player, soooo....... -Tim
Doctor G 0 Report post Posted June 20, 2007 Cross sounds like a very reasonable pick for Detroit and it works for me, although I'd really like them to pick a physical winger. Gillies would be your pick then, if he lasts that long (highly unlikely). He can skate and if (a big if) he is as tough as his uncle, then anyone drafting him would be very lucky. The players that might be available at 27th in my very "non-expert" opinion is Petrecki, Maclean, Sweatt, and Cross. 3 of these are defenseman. Now if you are willing to take a chance Pacioretty has a great chance to be a very good power forward. But he is very raw in his development.

I really hope the Wings take him, it would be a risk but if everything pans out he could be a force on the ice. If we keep Bert, Aliu could take his place in a few years. He was one of those guys that really impressed me the first time I saw him like Kessel, Kane, Hensick and Mueller. I'm kind of surprised he didn't have a better year out at CC...but then again their team was way down in scoring from what they're usually at, and he was 3rd on the team in points. I like that kid a lot. He's a burner for sure. -Tim
