Bertuzzi a Duck: 2-Years, $8M

I loved the acquistion of Bertuzzi, thought he was exactly the type of player that would thrive in this city and become an instant fan favorite. It never really got the chance to happen, which is unfortunate, but I don't think letting him go spells any sort of doom for next season. Will he be better throughout the season with the Ducks than he was at the end of last season with the Wings? Probably. Will the Wings go on to sign a free agent that will produce more than Bertuzzi? Probably.

I'm sick of all the talk of the loss of Bertuzzi signaling the loss of our toughness. First of all, I'll take more goals over more hits any day. Secondly, however sad it might be, being tough has sort of lost its place in this new, modern-day NHL. If you look at the last few teams to win the Stanley Cup (Ducks, Hurricanes, Lightning), I see absolutely none of this "toughness" that everybody keeps talking about. If a guy like Bob Probert wanted to break into the league today, it would never happen. Guys like Darren McCarty have floundered around for the past couple of seasons, because their identities have been lost. There is no more fighting, there is no more grit, there is no more "toughness." So, say what you want about the fact that Bertuzzi was big and intimidating, but intimidation doesn't quite work anymore unless you can put pucks in the net.

WTF are you talking about??? May, Thornton, Moen... that's the pure snipers???

There you have it. Four million a year. Now everyone, please calm down, because he's only worth half that (if that).

Ditto

He's definitely not worth that much money. Bertuzzi really wasn't the same, and I don't think he will suddenly come to his old form with Anaheim. Horrible deal for the Ducks.

Feel free to explain to me how in a seven game series the Wings won't be beaten up, bloodied, and beaten by these two HUGE teams. I'm sorry, I've seen the Wings get pushed around year after year in the playoffs and I see no reason to believe that won't happen again.

I don't think this one needs a response, all in all. Come on, show how they -will- get beaten by Anaheim, SJ, or Calg.

See last year? I don't care if San Jose played down, we're not in a bad position. We could be in a better pos. for sure.

When Mr. Holland is going to secure our goaltending situation than we will be better...

Maybe a little over the top but I feel your pain in that I want a real big nasty power forward on the Wings, and he was as close as they've gotten in a while.

Cheers!

He's not worth that much money... But we still need to replace him...

P.S. Dave Scatchard is UFA...

He was also waived and bought out by PHOENIX. Not to mention his brain was scrambled by Sopel and apparently he's never recovered.
