T-Ruff 47 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Initial shock/anger dissipated.... This leaves us room to sign someone who wouldn't be such a risk... I wanted Bertuzzi for the type of player he is...but I hope he doesn't improve in Anaheim, and we can get someone more reliable....
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Correct. Face the facts guys - Bertuzzi is a shadow of his former self. You can quote me on that at the end of next season too. He probably wont be the same. But he'll do well with Anaheim. This HAS to have Kenny scrambling a bit. I really think that Nolan would be a good pick up , keep Cleary on the 2nd line and sign a fighter/grinder like Fedoruk or Asham.
Heaton 1 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 I'm surprised no one is pissed off at Bert and his comments of not wanting to move his family anymore and loving playing in Detroit and all that crap he spewed at the end of the season. I don't really care because at the end of the day it was a buisness decision, but I hate when players go on and on about wanting to stay but they never give their "but" at the end of it. It's so insincere.
stillwater 186 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Could any one of the whiners please explain to me what it is the Wings are losing by letting Bertuzzi walk?

Guest Agalloch Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Could any one of the whiners please explain to me what it is the Wings are losing by letting Bertuzzi walk? Apparently, he's still this 40 goal, great power forward that puts fear into opponents.
superstarsingh 23 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 We finished first in the West without him. I am pissed to see him leave and especially for Anaheim but hey, we can win without the guy.

therock48880 14 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 We need Markov now, to add some kind of grit. I totally disagree. What they HAVE to do now is sign one, possibly two soft European forwards. Then, they could get rid of the hockey skates and get them all a nice new set of figure skates. It's too bad I can't stand the Ducks because I like the way they play. I can only wish that the Wings were a team like that. Oh well, let's be happy with another run at the President's trophy and a first or second round loss in the playoffs. I was pissed yesterday with the signing due to the fact that it would keep the wings from signing some needed toughness up front. Now, I've gone over the edge. Vancouver Wings Fan 0 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Correct. Face the facts guys - Bertuzzi is a shadow of his former self. You can quote me on that at the end of next season too. I will quote you now and again next season!! You are absolutely correct!
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Not a huge loss...although this is officially the softest NHL roster of all time. I'm sure Kenny has a backup plan. No way does he let Schneider, Bertuzzi, and quite possibly Markov go and only come away with Rafalski.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 2, 2007 This was really a great time for TSN to go kaput. Now I can't find out anything.

Flip-check 6 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Correct. Face the facts guys - Bertuzzi is a shadow of his former self. You can quote me on that at the end of next season too. He's no longer the Bertuzzi of yesteryear, that's a given. I think he's going to have a damn good 'comeback' season in Anaheim though. I want him to, too. Not to be greater competition to us, but to show that we would have had a deal with him--if he wasn't asking too much.
therock48880 14 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Apparently, he's still this 40 goal, great power forward that puts fear into opponents. Size, toughness, soft hands, good scoring touch, mean streak, someone to stand up for teammates. Is that enough?
stillwater 186 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Are you serouis.... Serious? Yes. From my vantage point he was the Wings worst player in the playoffs. Are you expecting him to return to his for, umm, dominance ... not the he was ever actually "dominant". Except for perhaps one great season. Did you really like his playoff beard or something? I don't the panic.

Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Pretty much. Yep. I just hope Kenny's "I know we're soft. It's something we're talking about" stance isn't posturing and that he truly understands that this team will have its collective ass handed to it by the likes of the Ducks. Guest Agalloch Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Size, toughness, soft hands, good scoring touch, mean streak, someone to stand up for teammates. Is that enough? You just listed qualities that he USED to have. Not so much anymore.
stillwater 186 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Size, toughness, soft hands, good scoring touch, mean streak, someone to stand up for teammates. Is that enough? Size, ok. When did he show you any of the other "attributes" as a Red Wing?
therock48880 14 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Did you completely miss the entire last season? Watched the whole season. Watched them play well in the regular season and get worn down by physical teams in the playoffs. The response to that so far has been to make them a softer team. Sorry if I don't see the reason to be optimistic.

Valas19 50 Report post Posted July 2, 2007 Well, our only godsend is that the division still stinks so we almost win by default. I hate to say it but I can't see how this team goes anywhere next year in the playoffs. The defense is still solid, Dom should be good again and the top line rocks but lines 2 thru 4 are, shall we say, less than stellar? Our 2nd line stunk last year but now we don't even have one. The 4th liners get bumped up to 2 but we might not even have Hudler back. Ughh....what a poochscrew. Grigorenko better be the next Sergei Fedorov but with the work ethic of Yzerman or it may not be pretty to watch. Now we get to see how good Kenny Holland really is as a GM. Detroit isn't the preferred stopover to a Stanley Cup anymore and we don't have the cash to throw around. Oh, and Kenny refuses to sign most free agents to any long term deals which is great when you get someone who doesn't pan out but tends to keep the guys who want stability away. I realize that it's only day 2 of free agency and a lot of things can still happen but tripping out of the gate tends to mean you can't catch up with the rest of the pack. Guys, give me reason to believe!!! I'm almost putting my hopes on the Lions!
