Matt 1,049 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Knee-jerk reaction: I like it. As others have said, he's an upgrade over Calder and the cap hit should be minimal. Wonder what Scotty thinks?

bringback91 2 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Another direct quote from offsides: "This means we are going to get Sergei Back!" I've already got a new screenname ready to go! 1.1 is a little more than I thought he get, still like the signing. Puts a little nastieness back into the grind line. Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Supposedly Dallas Drake is going to sign with the wings..thoughts AWESOME! To the whiners club, here's some things to keep in mind 1. Dallas Drake is exactly the type of player the WIngs need. A guy who finishes all his hits and does it with authority. He isn't a guy that just bounces off of people. He levels people and that's a good thing. So what if he's 39 years old. Ever hear of Chris Chelios? 2. Of the players remaining there really isn't a ton of stuff out there for decent money that addresses needs. And a physical presence up front is a desperate need. 3. He'll stick up for his teammates no matter what. And lastly, for anybody who doesn't like the signing all I have to say is where you gonna be after Drake plasters somebody and they can't stand up straight? I know exactly where you'll be. You'll be right here chiming in with the rest of us high-fiving and doing the hoo-haa dance because we're finally on the giving end of a big hit. And you can bank on that. NICE JOB KENNY
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Now I see the feeling everyone else had on here when we Signed Rafalski... if you feel anything like me than DAMN... Good job Kenny!
Airborn 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I have no problem with this signing. He'll be a good fit on the Draper/Maltby line. He'll provide some energy and physical play in a 4th line role. They definitely need someone whose willing to throw the body around, and he's more than willing. Worst case scenario, he provides depth in case of injuries. StevieY9802 6 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Cap hit is 1.1 mil. And hes a 3rd or 4th line guy. Nice addition for the short term. Good leadership, physical and nice to see him back where he started. Welcome back Dallas.

Opie 308 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I change my mind I love this signing because it appears it got OsGod out of his funk. No more will I read his posts about the team having 6 centers and 11 D and 3 wingers!!! LOL
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 This is so identical to Greg Johnson, it's scary. - Greg Johnson was captain of a team in our division before we got him, as was Drake. - Drake is just as useless as Johnson. - They're both old and past there below mediocre primes. - They're both ex-Wings. Holy shnikeys.
pondrocket 35 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I like it! It's not enough to be able to take the physical play. We need to be better at dishing it out. I think he will help in that department.

Guest jaytan Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I like this signing, but I don't really expect it to be much of a difference-maker. The upside is pretty good, and we didn't really risk or lose anything.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) This officially means that the 2nd line will be any of Franzen, Sammy, Hudler, Filppula, and Grigorenko. More ice time for the guys = more points = more trade bait for the Wings and/or more experience for the young guys. Line #1: Datsyuk-Zetterberg-Holmstrom Line #2 and 1/2: Grigorenko-Filppula-Hudler 2nd Line #2 and 1/2: Sammy-Franzen-Cleary Line #4: Maltby-Draper-Drake For some reason, I actually like how that roster looks. Edit: forgot to mention Cleary in the rotation for 2nd line. Edited July 9, 2007 by YoungGuns1340
Hank 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Supposedly Dallas Drake is going to sign with the wings..thoughts This might be an unpopular opinion but I think this is a great signing. He's a great character guy that can play all 3 forward positions. He's fast, checks hard, blocks shots and will do whatever's asked of him. His offensive skills have eroded and he obviously won't be counted on to score a lot of goals, but I see no reason that he couldn't have a resurgance similar to Dan Cleary. Good pickup. Crashnburnluder 385 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) I def... like this signing... everybody has been whining that we need some grit... we finally get someone and people are complaing hes too old and he doesnt produce... sorry you cant always have the best of both words espically late in free agency.. and we still have plenty of cap room... If this is what I get to look for ward too then Im pumped... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m4IL4SbGoaw I believe he got suspended... a couple games... but hey... thats the kind of intensity and grit we need... and it will be nice having him on our side those things like this dont happen to us as much anymore... haha also i know this one is a little old.. haha but im def... looking forward to this guy in the Red and White baby... OsGOD 3 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Scotty Bowman thinking - 'Hmmm Drake is an older vet, lots of experience, a chippy sob, pain in the a$$ to play against, & 1 hell of an ugly guy  ......Good job Kenny!' haha funny by why did you have to bring Pronger's mug  into the post? Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted July 9, 2007 They will be saying... Ohh dallas... I am eating crow now!!! blah blah blah... eff 'em..... I am on cloud 9! Dallas Drake Did You Know Fun Facts: 1. Has scored 15 or more goals 5 times in his career 2. Has as many assists (297) as Kris Draper has career points. 3. Has more assists than Kirk Maltby has career points. 4. Has more goals than either Maltby or Draper. 5. Has more goals and more points than Tomas Holmstrom 6. Is only 29 points away from 500 for his career. Not too shabby for a guy known mostly for his ability to demolish people with sometimes questionable hits.
