bringback91 2 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I wonder what number he will take... Assuming Kopa gives it up the Rafalski... does Rafalski give it up to a former Captain? I say 20. 10's obviously out of the question as is 28 I assume. so yeah 20 or 15.
FireCaptain 563 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) OK, fess up.. who posted this on Kukla's? "Thomas" sounds very bitter. Dallas Drake as good as Lindros or Yashin??? Dallas Drake is a good character guy. There is absolutely ZERO offense to his game, and he’s declining. He’ll fit right in in Detroit, but this is not a good signing. He’s just going to take away minutes from one of the Wings’ crappy young players. I guess Holland would rather have a crappy older player with character than a crappy young player who may or may not have character. Man, I am glad that Ken Holland is not running my team (into the ground). Posted by Thomas on 07/09 at 11:25 AM Edited July 9, 2007 by FireCaptain
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I think it's funny how after his hit on Lebda he's a dirtbag and one of the dirtiest players in the league. Now that the Wings sign him, he's a great gritty addition to the team. Typical bi-polar behavior here at LGW. It'll be nice to have some more toughness out there, but this hardly addresses the Wings biggest problem, which is their second line scoring.

Guest GordieSid&Ted Report post Posted July 9, 2007 This is so identical to Greg Johnson, it's scary. - Greg Johnson was captain of a team in our division before we got him, as was Drake. - Drake is just as useless as Johnson. - They're both old and past there below mediocre primes. - They're both ex-Wings. Holy shnikeys. Oh quite being a party pooper. Dallas Drake and Greg Johnson first of all couldn't play a more different style of game. Dallas Drake goes up in the pantheon of smaller guys who wreaked havoc on NHL opponents for his demolishing brand of physical play. Greg Johnson was an decent player, not particularly great at anything but with better offensive instincts probably. Although I don't think Johnson ever threw a solid check in his entire career or drop the mits to defend a teammate. Drake just as useless as Johnson? It makes your point of view look better even if its totally wrong.

Lebda is my favorite D-man on the wings... now it is nice because unless an unfortuante accident he is safe from the Freight Train Drake! Signing Drake to the 12th/13th forward position for ONE year is clearly "running the team into the ground."
chelios4eva 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I've never liked Drake. In fact, whenever I play against his team in my Video game, I be sure to go after him every time... damn

"Seriously though, I haven't been able to stand this guy after seeing some of the borderline hits he lays on. He plays nasty, hits, cheapshots.....sure why not?"- bringback91 quoted before signing offical Although, I never said he was one of the dirtiest players in the leauge. I thought the 2 games for that was enough. All you can really do as a Wings fan is support the guy, no? I mean, stuck with him now like it or not.
Guest Agalloch Report post Posted July 9, 2007 1.1m cap hit for Dallas ******* Drake? That absolutely sucks. I was hoping we'd have as much as possible to add at the trade deadline. I'd be okay with this if he had signed for the league minimum. Ugh. "Grit" is so ******* overrated.

Yeah because winning the west and going to the WCF is definitely running the team into the ground. Since Holland has been "running things" has this team missed the post season? OsGOD 3 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 For the honour of donning the coveted #28 I think Drake, & Rafalski should use the time honored tradition of 'pistols @ dawn (march ten paces - turn - fire)' .....Rock/paper/scissors Sorry; wasn't aware that  was a Pronger exclusive...I figured it would be appropriate since Drake has many missing chickletts. Just given you a hard time... I think Pronger every time I see that smilie... although dallas is missing those as well. I feel sorry for the lad that has to be on the receiving end of the ROCK in that game... bugger.

tazzer82 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 (edited) Excuse me while I'm sick :puke: Now that I got that out of the way, not a smart move by Kenny. We already have tons of checking line forwards, now he just added another one, one that could barely keep his place on a last place Blues team no less, and an older one on top of it all. I guess Lebda won't have to worry about anymore flying elbows to the head, just wonder who on the roster isn't gonna have a spot because of him. He should be stuck fighting for the 13th roster spot, and shouldn't see much if ANY icetime at all. And paying $1.1 million for him no less...unreal. Way to go out and sign that top 6 forward we need Kenny. Edited July 9, 2007 by tazzer82

Wing Nut 19 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 OK I'm as confused as a one legged man in a butt kicking contest. This guy basically is a washed up, never been an offensive player, almost 39. But he's a hammer. The Wings will look like a bunch of wussies with out some one like him. He will supply gritt and toughness, and add some fear to the game, but he's not a very good hockey player any more. Only time will tell. Many players have come to Detroit and revitalized their careers, (Larry Murphy) we can't change it so lets wait and see what happens.
tazzer82 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 Grit is way overrated, and bringing back cheapshot Drake is not going to help that problem all that much.
haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 I for one have always liked him. However i've always noted that he has a tendency to deliver some questionable hits. I'm a little closer to Bowman's opinion of him in my assessment. I like his work ethic and the way he throws his weight around, but as you mentioned, the guy makes some incredibly stupid decisions. What's the status of his wrist injury?
Lefkowitz 0 Report post Posted July 9, 2007 AWESOME! To the whiners club, here's some things to keep in mind 1. Dallas Drake is exactly the type of player the WIngs need. A guy who finishes all his hits and does it with authority. He isn't a guy that just bounces off of people. He levels people and that's a good thing. So what if he's 39 years old. Ever hear of Chris Chelios? 2. Of the players remaining there really isn't a ton of stuff out there for decent money that addresses needs. And a physical presence up front is a desperate need. 3. He'll stick up for his teammates no matter what. And lastly, for anybody who doesn't like the signing all I have to say is where you gonna be after Drake plasters somebody and they can't stand up straight? I know exactly where you'll be. You'll be right here chiming in with the rest of us high-fiving and doing the hoo-haa dance because we're finally on the giving end of a big hit. And you can bank on that. NICE JOB KENNY i like the signing also!
