toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted July 11, 2007 Probably because he's looking for more money than he is worth. He has a huge shot from the point, which makes him great for your powerplay, but other than that, he doesn't give you a whole lot.
datsyukonethree 0 Report post Posted July 11, 2007 The -28 despite scoring 64 points is probably a big turnoff to a lot of teams. The teams that do want him though want him badly, and are probably in a bidding war for his services right now. It'll be interesting to see what he signs for. The Habs have sucked for so long that he doesn't have a lot of help. Craig Rivet? Serviceable yeah.. but s***, can't name too many other defenseman from Montreal. I'm thinking some schmucky team will overpay for his services to the tune of $4-$5M for 3-5 years. Panthers anyone?

Serviceable yeah.. but s***, can't name too many other defenseman from Montreal. He's a career -27 and has played on Montreal AND NJ. But, to be fair, all but one of his minus seasons are from his stay in MTL. Regardless, we can all agree he look horrible on defense (god help the team if he's the only one back in a breakaway situation). Buuut having 19 pp goals and 38 pp points this season is pretty hot. Guest Crymson Report post Posted July 11, 2007 (edited) He became a FA this year right? why hasn't anyone picked him up yet? I've always liked him His shot is all he's got. A Habs fan put it best: "Please bring Souray back, just don't play him 5v5 or on the PK!" I'd welcome him on the Wings for, say, $1m. Lidstrom and Rafalski can eat up his 5v5 minutes. We'll play him on the PP and as the 6th man with an empty net. I think the -28 is a bit deceptive. He's awful on defense. Ask anyone who watches the Habs regularly and they'll tell you the same. Edited July 11, 2007 by Crymson

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted July 12, 2007 If Burke had any space at all , he'd pick him up. Tough , Canadian , will drop the mits , and has a bomb from the point. Im surprised he hasent gotten signed though , He's worth at least 3-4 million from teams that are in need of a defenceman.

Im surprised he hasent gotten signed though , He's worth at least 3-4 million from teams that are in need of a defenceman. Considering he finished the season with 64 points, and was still a -28, that shows you something is wrong. Souray sucks ass defensivily, and to be honest, is not near worth 3-4 million a season. In other words, Souray is lazy and he sucks™ Edited July 12, 2007 by Kp-Wings
interminded 1 Report post Posted July 12, 2007 If i hear the name Sheldon, the only thing I can think of is: Harry: Shel? Sheldon? No, no, you did not have great sex with Sheldon. Sally: I did too. Harry: No you didn't. A Sheldon can do your income taxes, if you need a root canal, Sheldon's your man... but humpin' and pumpin' is not Sheldon's strong suit. It's the name. 'Do it to me Sheldon, you're an animal Sheldon, ride me big Shel-don.' Doesn't work...

Komisarek and Markov were plus ratings last season. Rivet was only a -7 in 54 games. The only Montreal defenseman who came anywhere near Souray was Janne Niinimaa's -13 in 41 games, and Niinimaa scored 3 points instead of 64. Souray was last in the league in plus-minus among defensemen at -28. The average if the other 7 Montreal defensemen who played 40+ games was -5. That speaks pretty notably to Souray as crap defensively. Especially since he was not used in a shutdown role. He did play on the PK, but that's more a result of the fact that he was one of four defensemen on the Habs who played more than 68 games than it is of his defensive prowess. Markov, not Souray, was Montreal's best defenseman this past season. Hamrlik is an upgrade over Souray. Both are in the hgih 5s range. Schneider is another guy who has signed for that range who is better than Souray. And last I heard, Souray is asking around 6m or 6.5m.
