If he actually takes the time necessary to rehab from surgery, and actually WANTS to play for Detroit... and we get him at a discounted rate because he doesnt join the team till the new year... well... I say SIGN the boy! He is a gritty, hustling, incredible puck-magnetic set up man... and would allow some freedom and distraction for our two budding superstars Dats & Zetts... In fact... we may possibly have access to Federov as well... I for one would love Forsberg and Federov to join an already POWERFUL cast of characters... Neither would have pressure upon them, and that I believe would spell even MORE trouble for opponents... which already has them looking over their shoulders... With just a TAD of luck last season, we would've hoisted the CUP... and with Anaheim's roster getting picked on (penner), and adding their share of "over the hills" ...I think we're lookin pretty doggone good... Bert & Schneider or Forsberg & Federov... you do the math... I come up with... No more washed-up has beens taking ice time from Flip or Rex. I'll pass. This is from ESPN Insider today: Red Wings make push for Forsberg Jul 30 - Red Wings GM Ken Holland has told C Peter Forsberg's agent, Don Baizley, that the club is interested in signing the often-injured superstar as a free agent, according to the Detroit Free Press. According to the Denver Post earlier this month, Forsberg told a Swedish newspaper that his surgically repaired right ankle feels good and that a number of teams have shown interested in signing the unrestricted free agent. Forsberg, who made $5.75M last season, had expressed an interest in returning to the Avalanche. The Avs have about the same amount of money remaining to spend [$4M to $6M] under the salary cap, according to the Free Press, but Forsberg might be careful not to offend Colorado fans by signing with arch-rivall Detroit. I get so pissed when everybody tries to tie every possible free agent rumor with Uwe Krupp. How is this a comparable? Krupp got injured in a dog-sled race. Most of these free agents, such as Forsberg, have no history of ever being into dog-sledding. It's not a comparable, so stop with this idiotic crap of "Well, he could turn out like Uwe Krupp!!!!!!!!!!111". I guess the Wings should no longer sign free agents then. Yes hes injury prone, but the guy has been taking all the right steps in preventing anything from getting worse, and Detroit knows how to handle feeble old players better than any team out there. We play smart, not overly physical hockey, and his experience would be a perfect match for the plethora of youth we have, ie Grinky, Flip, Kopetski, Huds. And last time I checked our entire second line was still not accounted for (outside of Drake, but if you're going to count Forsberg out of it, you might as well add Dallas to your has-been won't-show list too). He hasn't really slowed down much if you look at his numbers. Hes still a force to be reckoned with, still knows how to make that key pass, that key shot on net, and hes obviously not afraid to play the body (see last year playoffs). The only think that I'm worried about is his calling to Colorado, and if that ends up being the case, lets hope for the grittiest, craziest victories vs the Avs, cuz I want him to regret his decision. If Peter Forsberg can still score 55 points in 57 regular season games, put up 2 goals and 2 assists in 5 playoff games, and have a shooting percentage of 29% through the playoffs, then I guess pretty much anyone outside of Lidstrom is washed-up too. Here is a look at Forsberg's playoff career: - 1994 – 95 Quebec played 6 playoff games, Forsberg played all 6 with 6 points. - 1995 - 96 Colorado played 22 playoff games, Forsberg played all 22 with 18 points - 1996 – 97 Colorado played 17 playoff games, Forsberg played in 14 with 17 Points - 1997 – 98 Colorado played 7 playoff games, Forsberg played in all 7 with 11 points - 1998 – 99 Colorado played 19 playoff games, Forsberg played in all 19 with 24 points - 1999 – 00 Colorado played 17 playoff games, Forsberg played in 16 with 15 points - 2000 – 01 Colorado played 22 playoff games, Forsberg played in 11 with 14 points - 2001 – 02 Colorado played 21 playoff games, Forsberg played in 20 with 27 points - 2002 – 03 Colorado played 7 playoff games, Forsberg played in all 7 with 8 points - 2003 – 04 Colorado played 11 playoff games, Forsberg played in all 11 with 14 points - 2005 – 06 Philadelphia played 6 playoff games, Forsberg played in all 6 with 8 points - 2006 – 07 Nashville played 5 playoff games, Forsberg played in all 5 with 4 points He played in 144 of a possible 160 playoff games. 11 of his missed playoff games were in 1 season (which was a year that his team ended up winning the cup, so his absence did not hurt the team). This was the season that his spleen was ruptured, not an injury that can happen again since we only have 1 spleen.... He hasn't missed a playoff game since the 2001 - 02 season, in which he played 20 of 21 games. (The one missed game was a game 6 loss, he was back on the ice for the win in game 7) Forsberg may miss large portions of the regular season, but when it really matters, he has been there for the most part, and has contributed in a big way (166 points in 144 playoff games). I don't really see the point in citing his earlier/prime years; I'm not claiming he's never been an effective player. Nor am I saying he's currently incapable of being an effective player. Rather, my point is that he's a risk at this stage in his career, and I for one would feel more comfortable if Holland resisted the urge to sign another physically and mentally shaky one-year rental guy. Secondly, I was not saying anything about other trades being the same as the UWE KRUPP (shutters) trade. I answered the question has anyone played for both the Avs and the Wings.
