Frisco, TX (Sports Network) - The Dallas Stars named Brett Hull as the team's special advisor to hockey operations on Tuesday while Dave Taylor was named director of player personnel.

The 43-year-old Hull, who helped the Stars capture the Stanley Cup in 1999 as a player, was promoted from his role as special assistant to the president.

"I have always wanted to help a team win the Stanley Cup from the business side of things," said Hull. "I am excited about this next challenge in my life and look forward to working with the entire hockey operations department on a deeper level."

Hull played in 218 regular season games with Dallas, scoring 95 goals and adding 101 assists. In 55 playoff games with the club, he had 21 goals and 25 helpers.

Prior to joining Dallas, Taylor spent the last 10 seasons in the Los Angeles Kings organization, the last nine as general manager, and is the winningest GM in team history.

"I'm both proud and excited to be joining such a successful organization in the Dallas Stars," said the 51-year-old Taylor. "I'm looking forward to joining their group and helping them win their next championship."

everyone who insults bretts broadcasting skill is most likely basing it on the game where he said Datsyuk had 0% of staying in Detroit. Other than that, he did a suprerb job on TV. He wasn't a *****, he said what he felt, and he was knowledgable about that game. for christ sake hes at least better then the greased up mullet guy, melrose.

I based my incredibly low opinion of Brett Hull on very game he was in the booth for. He's obnoxious, treats his biased opinions as fact, talked over the other broadcasters and his arrogance was a little too apparent at pretty much all times.

I can see how you can respect a guy for speaking his mind, but IMO he just sounded like a big mouthed jackass to me.

I agree, he is horrible. I'd rather listen to just about anyone over Hull.

i loved the verbal diarrahea

Me too.

His commentary definitely wasn't professional, and he probably would never be hired by a network with any integrity whatsoever, but he made the idiots on Versus/NBC more bearable.

Thank the STARS for not seeing him on TV anymore, he was absolutely ridiculous last year, not showing respect for the Wings and all

Come on, he showed them some respect! Remember when the Wings lost Game 5 to the Ducks and Bill Clement made a list of categories you have to dominate in to win the game? He read each one and had the other announcers say which team was better. Hull picked the Wings in each category :)

thank god he wont be on TV anymore

Actually considering most of the dry hockey announcers, I found him quite entertaining. I like not knowing what is going to come bellowing out of his mouth on national tv at any moment - apparently NBC didn't like not knowing either though.

Guest Crymson

Hull spoke his mind, leaving the petty bulls*** politics at the door. One does not find such ingenuity very often.

I too really enjoyed Hully, he called it like he saw it.

I think a lot of wings fans were scorn when he said Datsyuk wouldn't stay.

However beyond that he added life to the desk, I would rather listen to Hull than any of the following:

Clement

Thorne

Melrose

Hradek

Chicken Parm

Olczyk

Doc Emeric (It's Marty Broduer vs the world)

Engblom

I think a great teaming would be Bucci and Hully on NHL tonight.

That my friend is entertainment in a can!!!!

Mike Emerick isn't that bad as long as the Devils aren't involved.

When they are though, look out. I remember watching the Devils - Lightning Game 6 last year... ugh, talk about a homer. I almost thought that was Haynesbot for a minute.

edited for grammar
