2007 Green Bay Packers Thread

Another historic day for the best QB in the history of the league: He now holds the all-time passing yardage record. Congrats to Brett, and to the Packers for locking up a first round bye in the playoffs. That'll be HUGE for their chances.

Not a pretty game today--and they finally were on the receiving end of some bad calls--but despite giving up a slew of yards, getting outgained, losing the turnover battle, and getting smoked in time of possession, they still won going away.

If Philly doesn't beat Dallas today, we can pretty much concede the battle for homefield (Thanks Lions) and focus on getting healthy and correcting mistakes heading into the playoffs.

BTW, I'm really encouraged that after years without having a legit threat in the return game, it appears we've got a bevy of talent there. Robinson was great on kickoffs today, Williams has looked good on them, Blackmon has been effective returning punts (and he hasn't gotten a shot on KOs yet--he was GREAT on them in college and had the job won in training camp before he got hurt), and Woodson is solid back there. Kind of nice.

This win coupled with the Cowboy loss are sure going to make things interesting these final two weeks, especially Week 17 given that Washington will most likely need the win that day. Unfortunately, the only downside is that McCarthy can't start resting players. Oh well, if it means home-field advantage throughout the playoffs its worth it. Plus, they already have the bye which will mean 13-14 days off, which should be enough time to get the bumps and bruises out.

All I keep hearing from you is, words like "maybe", and "might" and "could happen." Well until it actually DOES happen, you look like a fool talking smack. Yeah the Lions suck. But GB has been far from good for several seasons now. And when the playoffs begin this year, both of our teams will be golfing. So how does that foot taste Timmy?

:rotflmao:

Just a funny post I thought any Packers fan would get a kick out of. Re-reading this thread today has been absolutely hilarious.

Dinosaur is pretty useless at this point, and has been for a long time. I don't know why he keeps coming back. I mean, does he really think the Packers have any chance at a SuperBowl or something with their current roster? I mean, if he does, he's really been knocked around too many times.

Another classic!

I almost agree fully. But no way in hell the Packers contend for anything. I've always really liked Favre. But facts are facts. Favre is no where near what he used to be. Vikings wont do s***, the Lions wont do s***, and the Packers wont do s***. The Bears will dominate the division. There will be no "fight" between the Bears and Packers. It will be a domination. You might as well call it the Bears division with 3 duds. Hell, Favre looked like crap last year, and now he's a year older. I remember about 3 years ago, Favre was a very coveted fantasy player. But every year since then, Favre has been available on free agency all season long. No one wants him. And for good reason. He almost throws as many interceptions as he does touchdowns. Packers will beat on the Lions and Vikings all season long. But thats about it.

Holy s***.....its just too funny!

Yeah, only because the Bears had the division clinched well before that game against the Packers. Hell, the Bears even pulled some of their starters for that game. Thats win means nothing to me. Like I've said before, I really like Favre. But in no way is he the player he once was. And of course we're gonna look at stats. I mean, I know stats arent everything. But like I said, 3 years ago no way in hell you could find Favre on free agency in fantasy football. Now, absolutely no one wants him. The Packers are too inexperienced overall. And without Driver, they wouldnt even have a shot at the wildcard. I honestly do think they have a legit shot at the wildcard. But honestly, if you actually think they are taking the division title, you may be delusional. Or hometown biased. Cause there's no way in hell they get more wins than the Bears. Not a chance. Playoff bound? Possibly. Division winner? No way in hell. And im not being a hater or anything. Im just being real about things.

Seriously, I can't stop!

It gets even better when you look back at the QB breakdown. JaMarcus Russell? Totally better than Favre.

I've been scared to comment on it too much, for fear of jinxing things, but this thread is an absolute classic

No worries, there's nothing to jinx. Regardless of what happens in the next month and a half, it won't change the fact that all the projections (even some by myself) were blown out of the water.

FAVRE IS TOO OLD!!

just adding to your classic posts in this thread.

Oh Timothy, if you're were going to post that, why did you use the gold old color green? I don't blame you for loving Favre.

Seriously though, I've appreciated all your constructive posts in this thread. It's always nice for a fan of a not only another team but a divisional opponent to be as subjective and civil as you have been in this thread. Best of luck to your Lions the rest of the way, and lets hope next year its GB and DET duking it like it was the first half of the season.

Yup. You got me. I would love Favre too if he was on my team, but since he isn't and he has dominated against the Lions, I have to hate him. Since I have no hard facts that can support why Favre sucks, I then attack his age because it is classic. And the green, I just thought it would be a nice touch.

Thanks Tim for being a fan of another team and using logic when it comes to Favre. For some reason, this seems hard for some people. It's funny how we all seem to think its ok to have Chelios on our team because he's still good even for his age, yet Favre (who's just under 8 years younger) is just to darn old and washed up. Nevermind the fact that he's second in the league only to Brady for passing yards, 5th in the league for TD's, he's thrown less INT's than Peyton Manning, Romo and Palmer (he's currently 12th in the league for picks - which is a skewed stat given how many QB's have already been benched for the season or had season-ending injuries), and has the 5th best passer rating. Not to mention he's led his team to a 12-2 start, and was a major factor in the Packers starting off 5-1, given that we had zero run game until they played Denver.

Stupid old man. He should just retire.

Good comparison. Look at Chelios more closely tho. Most Red Wings fans hated him with a passion before he came to Detroit. Suddenly, he became the best thing since sliced bread on an already great team. This is a perfect situation that proves that you can hate the guy because divison or in-state rivals occur, but once you have him on your team...all is forgiven. If Favre joined the Lions, he would be a young man to Detroit fans and age rapidly to Pack fans. :yowza:

Wow, who would have thought that the horrible Chicago Bears could destroy the Packers? I did NOT see that one coming. I mean, I thought the Bears might have had a chance. But not them blowing the Packers out. Hopefully that doesn't impact Favre in any way. I doubt it will. But losing homefield advantage sure doesnt help things. Im really rooting for the Cowboys to fail. I hope that team falls apart.

Didn't see it coming, but when you essentially have 4 turnovers on punts (2 blocked, 1 dropped that he just covered, and one 9 yard kick) you're not going to win any football games. And in wind like that, once you force a team to throw the ball, you've won the game.

Goofy game, but chances are they aren't going to see wind like that at Lambeau in the playoffs. Playing in snow is a lot different than playing in 40 mph wind. It sucks that we'll likely have to go back down to Dallas (if both teams win their opener), but with how important GB's passing game is to what they do, maybe it's for the best that they'll be in nicer weather.

I still think we're better than the Cowboys.

Bump for the NFC Championship Game appearance.

We're 4 quarters away from the Super Bowl. I can't ****ing believe it. This has been a dream season. It's clear that Ted Thompson has done a phenomenal job of rebuilding this team in just a couple of years. They went from 4-12 with an aging core group and no real veterans in their prime, to being a young, talented team that tied the franchise win record and is on the cusp of getting to play for the NFL Championship. He's added a star running back, for the low, low price of a sixth-round pick, along with the best playmaking WR in the NFL not named Moss or Owens. And those guys are just the tip of the iceberg.

And who is behind it? The greatest, and most entertaining, player to ever play the game. Like I said before in this thread, you can make arguments for other players, but I can make a darn good one for Favre as well. And no one has ever been this fun to watch.

Honestly, if you told me right now that Green Bay could win the Super Bowl and Favre would retire, OR you'd make no guarantees on the outcome of theses seasons, but Favre would play another 3 years at the extremely high level he's currently playing at, I'm not sure which I'd pick. There'd be nothing like sending him out on top (and I'm actually not convinced he'd hang it up if they'd win), but I love watching this man play football so much, it'd be hard to give that up, even with the enjoyment of another championship. I'd probably take the win, but it would be a LOT tougher choice than it should be....

Coach Holmgren used to tell his team "The journey is the reward" and watching this season, it's pretty evident what he meant. I can't say I've ever enjoyed a sports season this much, week in and week out. It reached a new level watching that snow bowl this past weekend (if there's anything more fun than a football game in a blizzard, it's a football game in a blizzard where you get to kick Mike Holmgren's ass and possibly send him in to retirement wishing that he had never left Green Bay) and now we have a shot to play for the right to go to the Super Bowl.

Even though this team is on the upswing, especially with the news that Favre will more than likely come back next year, you have to make the most of these opportunities when you get them. You never know if injuries or other factors will derail a run in the future.

I can't wait for Sunday. This is going to be a long week. And an even longer two weeks, should we beat the Giants.

But the best thing that this run to the playoffs (and maybe the SB) has provided is another opportunity, or two, or three to watch Brett Favre play football. It sounds sappy as hell, but that's something I cherish, because it won't be the same when he's gone. And the more chances I get, the luckier I feel to be somewhat a part of this.

I love this team so much.

Honestly, I'm so excited right now but just like I've been all season, I'm trying to keep my emotions in check. This has been an absolute dream season especially considering the sports "experts" at ESPN ranked the Pack at 27th to start the season.

Grant is the definition of a diamond in the rough. Seriously.....a freakin' 6th round pick for what looks like our RB for the next 7-8 years. Funny how that sh*t works out.

And then there's Brett. This guy is the definition of a winner, and I don't see how anyone outside of New York (and probably Minnesota & Chicago) could cheer against him. Sometimes the guy flat out makes watching the game more entertaining than playing it. To me, he's everything that's right in sports (basically the Packers version of Yzerman) with the grin of an 8-year old.

Here's hoping our boys can come together and nab the victory this Sunday so Favre will have the opportunity to go out on top (not that he wouldn't go out on top regardless).

You going to the game NFM? I've been pulling up ebay like every hour hoping to get lucky and find a reasonably priced set of tickets. It looks like prices have come down substantially from the start of the week. Still around $400, but much better than $600-700. If I could get really lucky and find one for 3 bills, I'd probably pull the trigger, even if I don't really have the money right now.

I'm bouncing off the walls waiting for Sunday to get here. I don't know how I'm going to manage to wait two weeks if we should win this game...

It'd be really interesting to see what would happen if the Packers do pull this off. A big part of me just doesn't see Favre walking away with as well as he's playing and as good as this team is.

Wow! I came to change my avatar & wonder "hmm wonder if there is a Packer thread?" This is great, can't wait for Sunday!

You should read the whole thread. It's an absolute trip. If there were a Hall of Fame for LGW threads, this one would be a first-ballot entry.

Welcome!

Unfortunately.....I'm not, but I've got friends coming my way for the game, and just being/watching the game in Green Bay is part of the experience (or so I keep telling myself). :P

As usual, I'll be rooting against whatever team is playing the Packers. Giants fan for the week. But if Favre promises to retire upon winning the Super Bowl, I'll switch up allegiances.

I agree with you, but this weekend I will be rooting for the Packers. How can you root for Eli Manning, and Coughlin? I can't stand either of those two. Same goes for all bark no bite Phillip Rivers.....

For one thing, because a Giants-Chargers Super Bowl would be hilarious to watch Eli get his ass beat in.

For another, I can only root for the Packers in two situations: If they're playing the Cowboys in Dallas. (When two teams I completely despise meet up, such as Packers-Cowboys or Florida State-Miami, my usual thing is to root for the home team to be mercilessly stomped into the ground, because then I at least can watch all the sad faces in the crowd.) The other is if a Packers win helps the Lions, such as the hypothetical and highly unlikely scenario of the Lions needing the Packers to beat, say, the Vikings in order to win the division.

red...why do you hate miami? just out of curiosity?

Why do I hate the 'Canes? Thugginest college football team in the country is why. Miami has strutted around trash talking and thumping their chest and getting in trouble for 20 years now. Showing up in fatigues to the Fiesta Bowl. Major scandals in the 90s. 7th Floor Crew. FIU brawl. And plenty of "characters" like Kellen Winslow, Jeremy Shockey, Sean Taylor, Michael Irvin.
