Guest jaytan Report post Posted August 30, 2007 OK, so I hear the Big Ten is moving all of its games to the Big Ten Network for the 2007 college football season. What the hell? Will they really not have any games on broadcast TV or ESPN? From what I can tell, this little network isn't even available on my satellite system where I live, and I pretty much watch Big Ten football exclusively. Has anybody heard anything else? BlakChamber 8 Report post Posted August 30, 2007 No, that's not true. ESPN and ABC are still going to be showing Big 10 games. Check the website of whatever team you want to watch and that should tell you what TV network the game will be on. I know right now for MSU, they've got 2 games on ESPN/ESPN2, 1 on ABC, 1 on NBC, and 2 on BTN. As far as I know right now, if you have DirecTV, you get the BTN. I believe the big holdup is with the cable companies, Comcast in particular. The BTN wants to be part of the basic tier of programming, but the cable companies want to make them an extra channel you'd have to pay for.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted August 30, 2007 I see. Well that's a relief. What worried me is that I kept seeing this college football commercial on ESPN advertising teams from the ACC, Big 12, SEC.... Basically everyone but the Big Ten.

I think the effect of the BTN is that there's no more ESPN Plus games broadcasted in the local market. And since there's no more ESPN Plus games, there's no point for a Big 10 fan to get ESPN Gameplan.

Woohoo! http://www.freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article...kB+OWw8JtIWM%3D Just in time too, so I didn't have to watch the debacle last weekend Of course they're re-airing it right now. I'm pretty geeked. I'm a big fan of a lot of non-rev sports (particularly field hockey and volleyball) so I'm sure I'll get a lot of enjoyment out of it.

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted September 8, 2007 I actually like the BTN. Great coverage on the Big Ten Conference. Good play-by-play guys/anaylists too. I felt like sometimes the ESPN guys(and girls) were just mailing it in.
Sting 11 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 I'm enjoying the network a lot. Friday Night Tailgate is a hoot, it brings back a lot of campus memories.
Skiing - Puck 0 Report post Posted September 9, 2007 Did anyone watch the MSU - BG game on tv. I was wondering if anything was said about the refs. I was at the game and they were booed for most of the second half and the end of the first.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted September 10, 2007 I loved watching BTN all day on Saturday. How do they do the game coverage when there are three or four games going on at once? Is it regional, or does everybody pretty much see the same game, with the cuts to others and switches to other games after the end? I got Ohio State's game this week (the first half was really funny, but it stunk after that), then they switched to Northwestern and Minnesota (yet another OT). It's awesome that they air classic Big Ten games every week too.

I have Dish Network and we've got the "overflow" channels as well, which basically means that we get all the Regional games that the BTN is showing on four separate channels. It was sweet. I had OSU/Akron, MSU/BGSUcks, Northwestern/Nevada, and Minnesota/Miami (OH). The Big Ten Classics could end up being very cool. Plus getting the BTN means I get at least 2 more Michigan hockey games this year than I would've gotten otherwise...so I should be able to see 16 or 18 games. Very cool. At least next week I'll be watching the one I want, plus giving my remote quite a workout! Hockey isn't a Big Ten sport, so do you know if the BTN will actually televise games? That will be frickin' fantastic if they do.

Will they really not have any games on broadcast TV or ESPN? From what I can tell, this little network isn't even available on my satellite system where I live, and I pretty much watch Big Ten football exclusively. Has anybody heard anything else? The Mountain West has a TV deal with a network designed solely to broacast their games. Coincidentally, the network is called "The Mountain". The MWC also had a few games here and there on Versus, and that was the first time Versus got into broadcasting college football games. Versus has also expanded a bit, broadcasting a few Pac-10 and Big 12 games this year. The Mountain/football on Versus debuted last season and for whateover reason, there werent any games on ESPN/ABC (not including bowl games). FSN might broadcast a few Mountain West games, but very few. While I definitely hold no animositiy towards Versus like a lot of members do in here, and I'll pretty much go to most lengths to watch my team play (I have Versus on extended cable at home, order most other games online and watch live online), appreciate that at least in your scenario the games are still going to be on ESPN. Versus/The Mountain did a fine job broadcasting games their first round last year, but if its b/w Versus and ESPN, the choice is obvious...

RockyMountainWingGal 108 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Now that the season is half-way over, I'd have to give the BTN a thumbs up. I saved $100 not having to buy ESPN gameplan. Michigan is on TV every week between the BTN/ESPN/ABC etc. Plus I can waste my time late at night watching "Big Ten classic replays" - lol. Kudos to the Big Ten for expanding their viewability to the fans (for those of us who aren't in the midwest). Hope the thing doesn't bust!

They're definitely showing at least 3 Michigan games this year: The games over Thanksgiving against Wiscy and Minnesota along with the late season game against Ferris State. mannysBETTER3434 1 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 I pray BTN joins Charter, or else I won't get it. I think BTN is doing a solid job so far except I hate Glen Mason. He is almost as bad as Musberger!
