russianswede919293 95 Report post Posted September 27, 2007 I've told everyone this and I drafted him in my fantasy league under this suspicion...He will score 25 goals this season and have 60 points...
datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted September 27, 2007 Samuelsson also played less than 60 games. and shot 3 times as much We still need a goal-scorer. A big, hard-hitting body would also be nice. i've got a hard-hitting body Filppula won't score 20-25 goals this year. I see that as his career peak. He's never been much of a goal scorer and just doesn't have the shot/hands for it. I see him having offensive defenseman type numbers 10-20 goals and 40-50 assists. i definitely don't see filppula getting 50 to 70 points this year.
Production Line 1 Report post Posted September 27, 2007 I would LOVE to see 60+ points...
Anomalously 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2007 Guys, he was 10-20-30 last year. And he's already 27. Some of you are being way optimistic. Try 15-30-45. He's not going to be getting top minutes on the powerplay -- there are way better offensive players on this team.
Earthhuman 8 Report post Posted September 27, 2007 i definitely don't see filppula getting 50 to 70 points this year. I think he means throughout his career, those are the sorts of numbers you can expect. Not next season. Guys, he was 10-20-30 last year. And he's already 27. He's also getting his first shot at top-6. With Datsyuk. Which inflates point totals by about 20 points.
YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted September 27, 2007 He's also getting his first shot at top-6. With Datsyuk. Which inflates point totals by about 20 points. Thats whats gonna make the difference. Whereas Homer has the garbage goal talent, Franzen has the shot and the skating ability. Both of those playing with Datsyuk can be 20g, 50pt guys.
clutchngrab 12 Report post Posted September 27, 2007 Its funny after so many years of not trusting the youth that the Wing's brass is so ready to put so much faith into young players. Don't get me wrong, I am more excited about this season than any in recebt memory because we have so many good young players ready to explode and the mystery of how they will do is exciting - especially after some playoff seasoning. Flipper: Mini zets w/out the finish. He might develop that but Draper never did, so go don't bank on it. Huds: Can he skate and play both sides and score w/ more ice time? Mystery Franzen: IMHO, the most sure fire bet to improve his stats dramatically. He could be a great young power forward after this year. Anyhow, even though I want all these guys to get ice - we still need one goal-scoring winger to complete the picture and I'm pretty sure that's a vet to be acquired and not grigs
Majsheppard 203 Report post Posted September 27, 2007 Gloating moment: I said time and time again that he deserved to be a top six forward last year. He is going to be the real deal this year eating up the minutes. I wouldn't be surprised if he hits 60+ points and 30 of them be goals if he is playing on the second pp unit and the first line. Elshupacabra 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2007 (edited) Franzen will be a star at the end of this season, he is a big strong player who can score goals and scrum it in the corners, whats not to love!? Edited September 27, 2007 by Elshupacabra
Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted September 27, 2007 I see it this way. Either he will play about as well as last seaon, play worse or play better. How is that for an impersonation of just how stupid some sports talk or "predictions" can be?

You don't get to gloat now. You can gloat in 82 games if he explodes. Here's hoping he does. I'd rather those 60+ points were spread between Dats, Z, Lids and Huds, but whatever. That'd be a 50% increase- definitely a great improvement for anyplayer to make in one season.

Of Course he does! Franzen for Morrow j/k, I think Franzen will be well known and be in the top 60 in scoring in the league.
Kira 451 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 I watched Pasha, Homer and Johan play together all through camp, and in the preseason games they have kicked serious ass. If they can keep this pace up through the regular season you just may see three guys have career years on one line. They have the potential to be like the Yzerman/Gallant/MacLean line from back in the late 80's that kicked so much butt.

It is an increase. But it's a more modest one than those saying that he's going to double his point production (or increase it significantly more). Look, Franzen is great, he'll probably improve. He's getting an opportunity. But he's old by sophomore standards, and his adjustment to the North American game isn't going to make him a superstar. It's just going to make him a better player. I've reflected that. Others are hoping for miracles. I hope he's great, too. I think Datsyuk and Zetterberg are great, so no matter where on the top 6 he would land or bounce around to, he's going to have a top 20 forward dishing him the puck. But I just don't see 60 or more points happening. If it does, I'm just very surprised that so many people are predicting it. Am I seriously in the minority here? Or are those who are more realistic about Franzen just not posting in this thread?

Or are those who are more realistic about Franzen just not posting in this thread? But what's realistic here? We have no way of knowing just how well Franzen will take to a 1st line role in the NHL. Apparently he was an offensive phenom as a teenager, but had to play defense to make up for the shortcomings of his team (which he helped lift to the SEL). He has all the tools to be a solid scorer. He can skate, he can hang on to the puck down low, he can shoot. And as a solid defensive player he should be able to read the plays and just needs to put himself in the offensive role. 60+ points is probably a tad optimistic for his first crack at 1st line duty, but Homer almost managed that (30/59) his first crack at 1st line duty coming out of the lockout. Homer was a 30-40 point guy before that, and played far more on the PP than Franzen has to date. I see 20/50 being very reasonable numbers for Franzen. If he keeps clicking like he has during the preseason adding 10-15 points to that isn't unthinkable.
Heroes of Hockeytown 694 Report post Posted September 28, 2007 I don't know that the words "star" and "Franzen" ought to be used in the same sentence with one another, where the word "star" means "top scorer man." Incredibly ballsy prediction: Franzen's first line status - alongside every players' any line status - is very much subject to change over the next few weeks... I was just reading in Wikipedia about Franzen and it says that he was suspended for a full year in Swden for knocking down a ref. Does anyone know more about this or have any video? Thanks. WhiteLightning91 105 Report post Posted December 10, 2007 How is that Ironic? Right after Franzen went down with his knee injury, Draper had a 5 game goal streak. Now since Draper has been out of the line-up, Franzen is starting to score.
