I'm glad as hell that Downey made it, but why isn't he dressed for Wednesday's game? You know the Ducks will have at least 2 enforcers in the lineup.

Ummmm because he is the 13th forward and will see maybe 25-30 games this season, which will definitely not include opening day.

Oh ok my bad. I'll rephrase it now. Ellis' hockey skills are worthless. ;) He might be a great teammate. But i'll take someone that can actually help this squad get the "W". We have enough "great teammates". Ellis = Worthless.

Hockey players don't have to score to be useful. Ellis worked his butt off in camp and earned this. He won't score 30 goals but he'll hustle.

Yay! I'm so glad Downey made it. Hopefully he get's a good chance, and stays with the team permanantly. I'm looking forward to seeing him in a regular season game. A good day all around. :D

Also happy for Ellis, too. He's a really hard worker, and deserves to make it.

A pleasant surprise i must say...I had all but given up!!! However, not playing him against Anaheim makes no sense. This is the exact reason you have Downey on the team...to play against teams like the Ducks. Especially considering they just met in the WCF and there's potential for a pretty chippy game. Wheres the logic behind that? If you arent going to use him in an obvious situation like this, why even keep him to begin with? Kopecky should be sitting this game.

As for Ellis, im just hoping he's the one that goes when they inevitably bring Grigorenko back up in a few weeks. Thats the only reason im glad they kept him in addition to Downey.

You never know, Lou. Babcock is unpredictable. We may just see Downey in that game (probably not, but it would be cool if he did play).

Downey and Parros would be fun to see, or Moen. I want to see if Lilja is gonna keep fighting, and if Danny might get in another fight, doubtful, but man I'd be one happy camper if he did.

If Downey and Drake play, I'd like to see how Maltby plays.

He would probably play decent again, for the first time in a while.

Not to knock on Maltby too much, but it's a proven fact: unless he has an enforcer at his side, he's not a very effective player, unless on the PK.

Thats why I want a Maltby-Drake-Downey line. Tough and great hitters, Maltby and Drake can do there things, Downey and Drake can protect Malts. Win win. Kopecky needs to learn to play a tough game, until he does, I'd rather have Aaron playing.

Exactly. Matt has improved every aspect of his game, especially skating, and he deserves a spot. He's a very capable 4th liner that can grind it up, and chip in with some goals here and there.

I'd like to see that line as well. They had a Drake - Draper - Downey line for a bit the other night and Draper ended up scoring, so why not give it a shot...

Downey will fight anybody, but I don't think that he'll have success against the bigger guys like Parros. As for Lilja continuing to fight, he has to do it. We've named him "the pain train" and he has to live up to that label.

I'm personally not surprised about Grigs not making the roster. What does surprise me is that there isn't anyone on the boards really complaining about it. I've never really been too impressed with Grigs, I'd take Downey in a heartbeat.

I personally think that starting Downey on the road in Chicago is a great move and it will be on a Saturday Night against the "New Look Hawks" I just think its a great move by Babs!!! don't get me wrong I wanted to see Aaron against the Ducks, but I like the move!

I dont even care if he is on a regular line, but he really should at least be dressed against the Ducks and their herd of mindless goons.

Malts has gotten his balls back since drake, he probably creamed himself knowing they will have another tough guy out there, lets just hope Lilja will back up Downey and maybe Kopecky will realize he isn't 5'6 140 either.

Sorry not sure if anyone brought this up, but with Grigs being sent down the minors, it says there is a clause in his contract that allows him to opt out of his deal with detroit if he is in the minors for more than 3 weeks.

Will he bail?

Pronger really needs a good cheap shot/ some might disagree but a injury like cheapshot, anyone see how he played against LA, what a scumbag

Grigs is buying a house and said he was willing to play in the AHL but only God and Grigs know for how long.

I guess that this all depends on Grigorenko, doesn't it?

From the way he was talking it sounds as though he wouldn't, but who knows, it is possible that what dats13 said has some truth to it.

As long as he plays in GR on Oct 20, I'm AOK with it.
