datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted October 7, 2007 i'm still kinda hoping we get forsberg if he turns out to be healthy. i know there were rumors about it. how sweet would that be if we had zdh up front and forsberg centering the second line? i wish we had held on to bert. he looked good when we played the ducks. he's a hell of a lot faster than what he was when he played here. he looks like he's in great shape for the first time in a long time. that would have been nice. Mike Modano i doubt it, he's got like three years left on his contract. isn't he making like 5 mil a year. that's not worth it. especially for the free agents the wings have coming up the next few years. besides, mike's already 37. StaticWithABeat 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2007 Marian Hossa although the price would probably be ridiculous. Datsyuk or Zetterberg would have to be involved for that to happen...Datsyuk for Hossa is an intriguing idea, God knows they could use a half-competent center to play with Kovalchuk. If Hossa is an impending UFA that won't re-up with Atlanta, then they will not get a player of D or Z's caliber in return.

No they wouldn't. If they're going to deal Hossa it's going to be because they're out of playoff contention and they'll trade him to a contender as opposed to losing him for nothing as a UFA. No contender is going to give up a big piece of their current team. It's going to take a lot of picks and prospects.

No contender is going to give up a big piece of their current team. It's going to take a lot of picks and prospects. First of all, Atlanta will resign him before he becomes a UFA, you can bet on that...they have reasonable cap room and he is among the best players in the league, not the kind of player that gets thrown around in deadline deals for picks, which is more or less what I was alluding to...If he gets dealt out of Atlanta - even if they're out of the playoff hunt - you can be there will be at least one elite player headed the other way. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted October 7, 2007 Not sure why anyone would want Hossa for the playoffs. He's invisable in the playoffs and plays soft. I wouldnt mind him for the regular season, but I just dont want him, he's not what we need. We're fine in the regular season, we need some playoff scoring. Plus he'd cost a hell of a lot, probably like 1st+Hudler+Meech+GRer+Prospect. No thanks.

God knows it's hard to imagine how Hossa could have an impact on this team in the playoffs if he's been invisible in the past. Thorton has a history of being invisible in the playoffs, and a certain player on this team was accused of that as well. Does that mean Dats and Thorton aren't desirable pickups for someone at the deadline? When a player has a stupid level of skill and puts up sick numbers in the regular season teams will always take a chance on picking them up for the postseason. haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted October 7, 2007 Not really a trade deadline deal, but I want Teemu Selanne. What's the latest word on him anyway?

What's the latest word on him anyway? *please baby jebus make Selanne come to Detroit!* No word I've heard of, but I agree he'd make the Wings instant favourites across the board. Hossa doesn't like Atlanta, that's what I've read anyway. When is the last time you saw a contender trade an elite player for an elite player at the deadline? I'm sorry, but there's no way a team that thinks they have a shot at the Cup will trade one of their current stars at the trade deadline. An elite prospect? Sure. Current player? No. Nashville wasn't prepared to trade Kariya/Arnott/Timonen/Legwand/Vokoun/Sullivan/etc. to Philadelphia for Forsberg last year, were they? Not sure why anyone would want Hossa for the playoffs. He's invisable in the playoffs and plays soft. I wouldnt mind him for the regular season, but I just dont want him, he's not what we need. Yeah, Datsyuk was soft and invisible in the playoffs at this time last year too. Edited October 7, 2007 by ARice89
SweWings 45 Report post Posted October 7, 2007 If Atlanta continues to play like crap then Hossa will leave - there's absolutely no reason for him to stay and if I was an Atlanta fan I wouldn't really begrudge him too much if it was done cleanly. For that matter I wouldn't really want him on Detroit if there are options...
