what's the word on grigs? how is he looking in gr? anybody know. any chance of him coming up before november, and if not, will he go back to russia? i only ask because it'd be wonderful right now to have the next ilya kovalchuck winging the second line.

i'm guessing since i haven't heard anything about him that it's not good news.

What a disappointment he's been so far.

There was so much hype for this guy here, then he doesn't even make the team.

Eh, don't be so blue. Pleanty of time left, don't forget either if the guy don't make it, he did almost die and has rods in his leg.

Part of the problem is that he knows he has an out clause and $1M US tax-free dollars waiting for him over in the CCCP. And he knows that the Wings are going to give him a shot in the NHL before November 1st. He has absolutely no motivation to perform well in Grand Rapids. And we know he's not going to push himself as the shape he arrived in is evident to how much drive and self discipline he possesses.

I know. so I can understand it taking a while to get his game back and develop it to the NHL level.

What I don't understand is him showing up to camp out of shape.

The Wings desperately need a winger with a scoring touch. The opportunity was there for the taking. And he couldn't even manage to show up in good shape.

he'll come good, whilst I agree that he could have come into camp in better shape, I would say he didn't know what to expect and has had

a big wake up call. Hopefully he is picking up the tempo in GR and I think him going to GR says alot about his desire to make the Wings. Lets be honest, he could be back in Russia already if he wanted earning top $. He'll get points for the Griffs no doubt about that, maybe a 4pt weekend and he'll be back on the radar. I just got a feeling that him and Dats could have some great chemistry eventually.

Yeah I hear ya. I hope he learned and figured out what it takes to play at the NHL level and that's what he's getting up to down there. I just have a hard time believing he's just saying screw it and waiting to go back home, I mean what was the point in coming over anyway then, you know? I'd like to see how he's doing in person so I could form my own opinion on his progress, although I'm thinking for better or worse he's going to get a shot, hopefully he makes something out of it. I'm not ready to write him off just yet.

edit- dp.

Give him some time. Not many people can come back from what he has from. I mean sure he hasnt recorded any points at all in 6 games but , im sure he'll start to pick it up soon. He's also playin in a different hockey style. Jus give him so time ;)

Has Grigs got in any fights?

He tried to beat up the coach for only starting him in three games. Allegedly.

What's that? They've only played three games?

OK, he'll try to fight Babcock when he's never called up from Grand Rapids.

Isn't griggs the only dude on the griffins team that speaks Russian? I mean, really that could be a thorn in your side if you didn't understand what your teammates and coach and, Hell ... everyone around you was trying to say.

Hockey doesn't need much explainin' to a player, yea, but lots of other things go with it , right?

Grigoernko has a translator.

He should be able to speak english. He basically knew that at some point, he was going to come to North America 6 years ago when he was drafted. There is absolutley no excuse for him not being able to speak any english at all, since he's had plenty of time to study the language.

I hope he that Babcock isn't stupid enough to call him up if he isn't going to give even a mediocre effort. He's been such a disappointment so far, and has no place on this team right now.

He doesnt deserve a shot right now. He was terrible in training camp, pre-season and now in GR. We'll have to wait till next year for him, or at least we should. If he was brought up here, he'd do the exact same things. The last thing we need is our top prospect to have no confidence and stuck in Russia.

Wow, project much? How in the world do you know any of those things? If he's got all of those dollars waiting in the "CCCP", why the hell did he come over? If that was the case, he could be rolling around in all his tax-free dollars right now, instead of putting himself under intense media scrutiny, moving himself and his family to a foreign country, all the while attempting to play in the most elite hockey league in the world. So your statement holds no water. As far as his fitness level is concerned, maybe you're right, maybe not; we won't know until he plays, or we actually get a report about his attitude/fitness. But to present it as "we know" he's not motivated is simply speculation based on your impression of him gathered through the media and a translator. Actually, he has said that the level of play in the AHL is higher than in Russia, that there is no guarantee he'll return in November if he's still in the AHL, and that almost all that have observed him has said that he continues to get better.

Jiri Hudler and Matt Ellis both put up great point totals in Grand Rapids.

Perhaps Grigs is still adjusting. Otherwise, stick a fork in him--he's done.
