Where has all this 'trade for Doan' hype come from? Are there any actual reports that say he wants to leave Phoenix, possibly for Detroit, or is this just a pipe dream that started up at the forums

As far as i know it was said on a radio report that Doan requested a trade, and that Phoenix said they'd trade him within 40 days. No actual rumors about him coming specifically to Detroit. Its possible its all bulls***..

Don't really care for Doan which i guess is weird around this forum.. Too me he is too streaky and inconsistant. I would much rather see Kronwall, flippula, Hudler, mature and grow in Detroit and see where it goes from there. If were gonna trade these guys i would hope for something better maybe? But i dont really mind Flippula, Hudler, Kronwall on our team right now there young and full of talent that hopefully works out in the future! Be patient guys ya never know how things will work out. Be happy we are a playoff team every year and i actually enjoy our fast and skilled small team. Love the matchups it gives vs the Sharks and Ducks. It's like David vs Goliath.

BTW why does everyone around these forums want us to be so much like the Ducks and Sharks? Big players who bang and crash!? Our team is fun to watch and very exciting!! Remember this is the Red Wings!! Not any other NHL team who so call bang and crash and goes by the same boring system like everyone else. Some grit is good and we have that.. maybe we can add another player before the trade deadline but besides that i like our team! The season just started lol give it time then maybe i'll eat crow and want other players because flip, hudler, kronwall apparently suck lol. Grigs i wouldnt mind to trade him.. i mean we do have a lot of depth and prospects but lets keep some too. Would like to see Grigs with us at some point though just to see more of him and see what he offers.

Grigs being out of shape had more to do with not knowing what kind of shape he needed to be in.

Huh? Not knowing what kind of shape he needed to be in. As a professional athelete, shouldn't you be coming to camp in the "best possible shape"? Especially when you are a guy trying to crack the roster for the first time.

I understand the guy had a setback with his accident and I do not want to make light of that in anyway whatsoever, but it is getting close to being 5 years past the incident now, it should really have no bearing on where he stands now. If it does still have an impact, will that impact ever go away?

Whats the big deal, babcock said if he can win a spot he'll get one, if he can't he wont. The Wings either gain a contributing player or they lose him for nothing. Alot eaiser to write someone off than have a little faith.

Just sign Foppa, that way we won't have to give up anyone ;-)

Following Grigs and his development thus far, I can honestly say that I'm already sick of him and part of me does hope they just send his ass packing back to Russia. He's obviously not ready to contribute at the NHL level. Babs isn't going to put up with his s***, no way. Trade him, release him, I don't care anymore.

So if Dats was supposed to be his mentor, etc etc, why haven't we heard of him stepping up and being one yet? Being a leader, that's what you do.

I watched Grigs on Friday night in G.R. and I don't see what the Wings brass sees in him. I don't think by watching him that he even belongs in the AHL. My vote is to send him back home and release him, he sucks.

It was a joke, sure, but it's one that has lost its ability to be funny.

Just like jokes about how black people "sure like their watermelons and chicken :D". The two are obviously on different levels, but they're both boring and repetitive.

I actually thought that it was rather humorous.

Edit for spelling

Igor Grigorenko didn't want to be in Grand Rapids any more.

So Grigorenko, who has an out clause in his contract that allows him to return to Russia if he's in the minors for more than three weeks, refused to remain in Grand Rapids any longer and has thus been recalled by the Red Wings. He's in Detroit now, on the team's active roster and will practice with the club Tuesday.

Red Wings management asked Grigorenko to remain in Grand Rapids beyond the three weeks, but he refused and would have returned to Russia instead.

In his three-week, five-game stay in Grand Rapids, Grigorenko tallied zero points and two penalty minutes.

When asked where Grigorenko fits in the lineup plans, coach Mike Babcock answered: "That's a good question. Everything here's on an at-earn basis. We'll see if he has enough pace to fit in."

To make room on the roster, the Red Wings put Johan Franzen (MCL) on injured reserve. Franzen, however, moved closer to being able to return to the lineup, practicing with the Red Wings at City Arena, Monday. Franzen participated in all drills except a four-on-four scrimmage that involved contact.

When Franzen is ready to come off IR, then the Red Wings will have to bump a forward from their roster. The list of players most likely to be cut includes Grigorenko, Aaron Downey and Matt Ellis. Both Ellis and Downey were praised by Babcock for their play on the team's recent four-game western trip.

As much as he'd probably love to hang out in G.R. and show Grigs how it's done, I'm pretty sure all Dats' time is consumed by being one of the 4 or 5 players carrying the RED WINGS right now. Just curious, how long exactly have your been following Grigs development?

Guest wingswillwincup

all that potential in grigorenko wasted , i think that car accident ruined his career ,that and the fact that hes just lazy now and not willing to do all it took to come into camp in the best shape , just sucks cause i really had high hopes for him

I say at this point we might as well trade him to a team that can give him 1st or 2nd line minutes cause thats the only way he might perform and he wont get those minutes here

It's way too early to give up on Grigorenko, with as much potential as he has.

But I will say this, he sure did start off on the wrong foot.

It is still too early but that time is getting close. I'm afraid that I dont see that desire in him, maybe he's been through too much?

For about 3 years. But I was speaking specifically about these past two months. Dats was with him in camp and I thought they had met up before that by the urging of the team. You know they wanted to have people check in with Grigs throughout the summer.

I played college basketball, there really is no offseason. You've got workout schedules made up for you, "voluntary" team practices run by the older guys, times and stats from your workouts to submit, etc. I'm sure playing at the PRO level this is about 10x as strenuous. How in the hell Grigs could show up at camp out of shape just blows my mind. They've got scouts in every part of the world that can check in on these guys for the Wings, note their progress.

it just sounds like he got fat and happy with that 1 million tax free contract. I don't know how you can possibly make up being that far behind from the start.

Hudler-Grigs-Kronner

for

Doan - Late Round Pick.

i wouldn't pull the trigger on that.

defense is thin as is. and i like the way Kronner has been playing thus far.

and *fingers crossed* no injuries. yes, super early. but still, i like what im seeing so far.

Hudler - mehh. the jury is still out on him. we all will know some more at the end of the season.

grigs - totally unimpressed by him, dont see the hype, just cause it looks good on LGW doesn't mean that some other team obviously down in the dumps in the NHL is going to take an elite team's fodder.

I'm not sure if this belongs in the "Griffins" thread or here since the specific topic of conversation is Grigs...

I just want to assure all of you of a few things.

the Griffins finally played their home opener last night in what proved to be a completely uneventful game, and

in most cases a serious embarrassment against the newly added rockford icehogs.

i wouldn't dare view my observations as a political call to action but here's what i saw, realizing it was only one game...

Grigs was the slowest player on the ice, and the next fastest was hands down quicker. he played out of position and

made errant passes the entire game. he had two golden opportunities to score just above the crease and lost his blade

both times, followed by a blank stare at the ref for not calling a penalty (when nobody touched him).

i want to believe that Grigs has what it takes to persevere and return to an NHL skill-set following the horrific accident

he suffered years ago... i really do, but the fact is he still has a LOT of work to do. i commend him for making it back to

the game as quick as he did but my empathy for his situation isn't enough for me to falsely accuse him of being the great

player he once was... he just isn't.

i haven't by any means thrown in the towel, especially not after one game. my point is that even if he had an off night,

considering the accolades that have surrounded this guy for years, he would have at least looked better than the

opponents weakest link... and he did not.

Thanks for the report. Doesn't sound too good when he's the worst player on the ice. Hopefully it was only 1 game but the fact that he has 0 points in 5 games says a lot too.

He did look alittle better the second game at home, but he still looked really slow. The only way you could give him the benefit of the doubt would be saying he wasn't trying in GR because he wanted to be in Detroit. He was with out question one of the slowest we have. He wouldn't stick handle to save his life, he'd just pass it as soon as he got it, which messed the team up several times...Maybe it will all turn around for him, but I'd vote to send him back to Russia.

Well I guess all they can do is give him a shot with the big club and see how it goes. But I have a feeling he'll be back in Russia in 2 weeks time.

Yeah, but in all reality come on, I think Dats has his own career and team to worry about. I mean what's he supposed to do, I'm sure he talked to him in camp when he saw him, but it's not like they were linemates or something. If the Wings wanted someone to take time and check in with him, they should've hired someone, not expect one of your top players to do so simply cause he speaks russian. From what I understand Dats lives in Detroit area year round. Trying to find any sort of "link" between Dats and Grigs development thus far is silly.

Guess we'll just have to wait and see, huh?

Couldn't agree more.

There is absolutely no excuse for any pro athlete to show up out of shape.

Grigs knows that he can dial it in the RSL and make a lot of money doing that.

You can't do that in the NHL. If Crosby did nothing in the offseason I'm sure he'd be a 3rd line scrub. Grigs in his best shape is probably a good 3rd line forward.

I wasn't super optimistic about this situation to begin with. This article makes me less optimistic.

Grigorenko "not interested" in Grand Rapids.

well that sucks. it really sucks to have been waiting for this kid for like 5 years and have such high hopes and then not have it pan out.

did you guys see the bottom where babcock said the go wings go chant was louder in phoenix than it is at home?

our home crowd is embarrassing. this is getting ridiculous. i think it's fair to say that hockeytown, if not dead already, is on life support.

I really don't see his skills shining through on the NHL stage. He's basically been a non-factor in the AHL and he probably should be sent to the ECHL.

I think it would be best if this experiment just died. I'm sure there are lots of players in the system that are thrilled that a fat, lazy, out-of-shape player leapfrogs them to the bigtime because he showed potential 4 years ago.

Finally, Grigs has returned to the Wings:

Jabba the Grigg

Sad but true. I have no idea why they even bring him up at this point...

The kid is probably headed back to Russia, unless Holland and co. see a real reason for him - unimpressive at training camp, below zero in the American league - to even practice and/or play with the big club. How bizarre.

And it's gotta feel like a slap in the face for players like McGrath, Quincy, Ericson or Kindl who worked their asses off in the summer and showed the Wings brass a lot more than what Grigs has put up.
