skacore 2 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Great game... I love this current line up, I'd like Franzen back but can't say I miss Samuelsson being out! I love the 4th line of Drake Ellis Downey
Flip-check 6 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 The ex Av.........? The current Wing prospect. I'd like to say that tonight Ellis was greater than Kopecky, but that was a fluke goal. If he keeps working hard like he's displayed lately though, he might just send Kop back to the healthy scratch list when Franzen returns.
datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 great game by the wings tonight!! i hope rafalski's alright. anybody see what happened or hear anything in the post game? is it just me, or is dat's wrister way off so far this year? i wonder if somethings wrong. seems like most of his shots are way high and wide, he's normally got such an accurate wrist shot. that may account for his slow start on goals, too. HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Was if just me or was Marleau pretty much invisible in the third? Do you think playing him with Joe would get him going or has that been tried lots in SJ? He's been invisible since April. Or so it seems.
T.Low 1,011 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) Great game, gotta give ellis some love, z, and dats played pretty hungry, downey drop in em, cheli given it to em at the end is sending the message too!!! Sharks blow!!! Great game. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't it tied 2-2 when Downey Downed Mclaren? Then the Wings went on to win 4-2. : Hmm, well waddya think about that... Yeah Baby! Do you think playing him with Joe would get him going or has that been tried lots in SJ? To be honest, Marleau is invisible a lot of the time. Him playing with Joe worked for a bit last year but they just didn't mesh well in the end in my opinion.
kylee 727 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 so much for Rafalski playing bad. tonight was a great game from the Wings (minus the 1st period) .. got the secondary scoring, zetterberg still on fire, ozzie was rock solid. downey stuck up for the drake (my dislike for McLaren grew about 10 fold in just one game)
WingNutNorCal 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Great game! Was a pleasure to actually have some other wings fans sitting near me. It was priceless when the place went dead silent with the Ellis goal. Great game guys!! Go Wings
Elshupacabra 0 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) I like that the Wings battled back after a slow start. I'm also glad that we got some scoring from someone other than the DZH line (yet they still impressed). Downey really gained some points in my book tonight and if he can prove to be more then just a fighter, he will get my vote for a roster spot. all and all, a pretty solid game for the Wings, I thought it was alomst amazing how the Wings seemed to just flip a switch in the first intermission and started playing with some jump at the start of the second, makes me feel pretty good about our team! Way to go Matty Ellis on his first NHL goal Edited October 19, 2007 by Elshupacabra
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 What a great game tonight! I have to say: the Wings really proved me wrong. After Moday's game, I was expecting the Wings to get their asses handed to them on a silver platter. But they really stepped it up and played a damn great game tonight, and was certainly entertaining. So, with that said: I'll take my crow with a side salad please. Hats off to Matt Ellis. It was a lucky goal, but his hard work finally paid off. Great game by him tonight. ...and considering there was a fight, you know I'm very happy with Downey. But seriously, he did what he was asked to do, and I'm happy he did it. I just hope Drake's injury isn't very serious. Other then that, though, a great game tonight! gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Ha ha, it's been like that for a couple days now. Ozzie didn't let me down. Yeah, you know, due to the fact that we have 2 mil invested in Hasek and historically he's the better goalie and subsequently the better bet in the playoffs (so we think...) I want to believe that Hasek is the starter that's going to lead us down the stretch. I've always been indifferent enough about Osgood not to hate him like some and I feel fairly objective about his actual talent. That said, I'm really with you right now. I mean, that can change. It's still early and Dom "starts slow." But I don't know...I smell something interesting brewing as this season chugs along. I'm really thinking Babcock's going to have some really tough decisions to make come playoff time even if Hasek picks it up. No doubt Osgood will as well. Then what? He had the gall to start Legace, I don't see why he wouldn't start Osgood if he felt he was the better goalie headed in. But it's early...we'll see... henrik40 76 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 (edited) Has anyone gone to the NHL section of espn.com? The link on the right says "Wings get revenge against Sharks on Ellis' goal". I mean I know they apparently hate the NHL but for god's sake, how hard is it to get ONE thing right? Anyways, nice win for the Wings, I like the physical play this year. It seems to be continuing over from the playoffs. And Zetts...... well no explanation needed. Edited October 19, 2007 by henrik40

Untill you've been on the ice when one of your teammates goes balls to the wall for you or your buddy, you'll never know what kind adrenaline boost that gives you... as long as he at least draws you all of a sudden feel like you can slay dragons and tame lions. Any coincidence we're seeing Maltby's best play in two years now that he's got a little muscle beside him? (Drake, Downey)

I don't think it's brewing it the sense that it will be a controversy or something that will cause some friction. Dom and Ozzie are veterans and Babcock knows he can't count on both of them. Dom is still the starter I think, but if Ozzie remains hot, he'll play him more. It's that simple I think. (but there's a whole thread about this, so let's not continue this over here... )

There's about 4 teams in the NHL he'd be a superstar in, and SJ needs a few things. I know he's the captain but i can't help but htink if there's another early exit he's out. Packer487 3 Report post Posted October 19, 2007 Oh, I don't mean brewing in a bad way. I just didn't expect there to be any doubt about who would start at all. And yes, it's so, so early, but I've just got a hunch it might be a more interesting choice come playoff time. I was impressed again tonight. And with that, to the other thread... I really think Babcock was playing a hunch tonight. Osgood's gotten off to a great start, Dom hasn't (which isn't a shocker). We saw it last year when Osgood got the start in that third Nashville game during the stretch run because he had done so well in the other two games. Hasek is going to be the starter on this team, and he's their guy in the playoffs barring injury. We're fortunate to have a backup goalie who has been really solid in 2007, but he's not unseating the best goalie in the history of the game just because Dom had a couple of bad games. It's nothing against Osgood, but they didn't bring Dom back to put him on the bench after 5 games. All this means is that Babcock has the confidence to throw him in there against good teams (rather than just the Columbuses of the world like the start of last year) and that Osgood will probably get rewarded with some more games. The plan was to only play Dom what? 50-55 games anyway? Might as well get Ozzie some additional work while he's hot.
