Milan Lucic

Lucic is going NOWHERE. Why the hell would Boston trade him? He looks tough as hell and has skill. Not to mention the Boston fans, who love fighting and are probably comparing him to Cam Neely as we speak, would riot.

Hell yes.

I love Downey, and LOVE the fact he sticks up for his mates. Same goes for Drake. I love that Aaron said he didn't like what Kyle was doing and that it needed to stop. THAT IS THE ATTITUDE TO HAVE! It makes me really happy. Hank's comments were awesome as well. Right on fellas!

We can still hope... :P

He's not Holland type of player... so even if he was available I'm sure that he wouldn't be on Holland's radar...

Pfft, Downey sucks! He's not going to score 30 goals this year, he brings NOTHING to the table. All he's doing is taking valuable minutes away from Kopecky! Besides, fighting is offensive to my delicate Victorian sensibilities.

Seriously though, I hope that Zetterberg quote shuts some people up.

The Zetterberg quote is like an anvil to all the "anti-fighters" around here. It's coming directly from his mouth, and the best part of it is our star player is in full favor of it.

I hope Downey sticks around. He's not the greatest fighter, but he sticks up for his teammates, and does his job just fine.

Who are these "anti-fighters" you speak of? I'm having a hard time finding them...

You all need to chill out about Kopecky. There is a reason Babcock is putting him out there instead of Downey. Maybe because Downey has absolutely zero talent other than fighting? Give Kopecky a chance, we're not even a month into the season yet. Downey gets his few minutes of ice time each game, gets in a fight, gets under a few peoples skin... and he's happy and so are you guys. They don't need him out there for more than 5 minutes a game in any sort of role other than what he's in right now.

Well said.

I'm glad we've got some guys that are actually sticking up for their teammates instead of letting "the powerplay be the enforcer." But Kopecky looked pretty decent last year before his injury, and while he hasn't been that noticeable, he also hasn't been as bad as everyone makes him out to be.

And as I've already said 50 times I think, Downey is fulfilling his role perfectly right now. He doesn't need and doesn't warrant more ice time.

Yep, and I really, really hope people are going to be shocked and infuriated when Grigorenko comes up and takes Downey's spot, it's going to happen, it's been set up like that since Downey signed his contract.

Maybe they should fight for it.

Or, better yet, Grigorenko becomes a genuine second line player. Then, they'll keep both Grigorenko (who can score) and Downey (who can fight), and make space by getting rid of players who do neither, Kopecky, I'm looking in your direction.

Originally, I think you are right, that was the plan. After reading Babcock's and Z's comments, I can't help but wonder if there may be a little doubt entering Wings brass minds. By the time Grigs is ready to come up, maybe Babs will be tired of Kopecky and what he isn't providing. Time will tell.

They said the same thing about Norton last year, but I guess we'll wait and see what happens when it comes to that.

And there it is! I was curious how long it would take for a Norton reference and have been pleasantly surprised by how long it's taken.

Honestly, Downey brings more to the table than Norton and I'm assuming Downey will be used throughout the season in a similar role as he is now.

Question to those who might remember... did Norton get any atta boy's from teammates or the article blurbs in the paper?

Even if it's not for Grigs, it's pretty clear that when everybody's healthy, Downey may be out of the lineup.

As for Grigorenko, they'll likely give him a shot whether he deserves it or not just to see what the kid can do. But to stay on the roster he's going to have to earn it. Holland and co. sounded underwhelmed by him showing up to camp out of shape.

Kopecky played nearly 13 minutes last game, and has played over 10 minutes the last three games. Obviously injuries are a factor there, but stil, Babcock is giving him the time. Seems like he's seeing something all the Kopecky bashers are not.

He see's Kopecky as a big centerman with a lot of scoring and "team toughness" potential, due to his 6'3 size. Unfourtantly, Kopecky is not that all. He's a terrible hockey player that has no scoring potential and hasn't once used his size this season.

No. Norton did not get any compliments from anyone last year. Mainly because his fights we're all pre-meditated (like with Peters, Ivanans, O'Brian) and he lost every one of them.

Norton didn't fight to defend his teammates. He fought because that's the only thing he knew how to do, and he figured he could keep a roster spot if he did. It's too bad that he was such an awful hockey player and even worse fighter that he couldn't.

It actually surprised me how long someone would reference Norton also. Everyone wants to use him as a benchmark for the Wings to never have an enforcer again. People need to realize that not ever fighter, even the most one-dimensional ones, aren't as bad as Norton.

Ahh yes. If only he dropped the gloves, then he would suddenly rocket from terrible to the most beloved player on this forum.

Kopecky hasn't shown much so far this year, but he hasn't hurt us either (which seems to be a common reason why Downey should get more minutes). Hopefully he'll get more on his game. But as I said, Babcock must see something other than him just being tall or he wouldn't be giving him so much time. Lang was pretty tall and big, but Babcock wasn't exactly his biggest fan.

Kopecky isn't terrible. He just has shown much yet. Though honestly none of the forwards really have other than the top line and Draper.

Well, Downey didnt warrant more minutes? Really, couldve fooled me, He got 6:24 in ice time tonight :D

Downey played a hell of a game. In all fairness Kopecky did play very well also. IMO, it was the right thing to do to give Downey more minutes. That line with Kopa and Ellis should stay together as our new jam line, they're great together.

Against the Coyotes.

And with Drake out of the lineup. He basically got some (but not all) of Drake's minutes.

Kopecky and Ellis do look like they're starting to get something going, which is nice to see.

Shocked? No. Infuriated? Yes.

Does hockey work like baseball? Cant they just throw Drake on the IR and call up Grigorenko to take his spot?

If Downey has to be sent down, while Drake tries to play with a cage...thats friggin stupid if you ask me.
