WingNutt 12 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Just wanted to see what everyone thought of Hudler's GWG last game against the Canucks. The guy never gives up, he is small and battles every night. He worked hard and deserved that awesome goal last game. the way he switched from backhand to forehand reminded me of Datsyuk and Zetterberg. He is only going to get better and I'm excited that he is going to grow into a super star in a Wings uniform. Keep it up Huds

toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Great goal. Plenty of discussion about it in the Game Day Thread. Well, some people, including myself, do not like GDTs, so maybe it warrants a separate discussion. My opinion is that is was a great goal, but don't read to much into it beyond that. I don't think Hudler will ever be a superstar, but he may develop into a more solid player, we'll have to wait and see.

I agree with you totally, its hard to find certain things in gdt when the game is over. and the topic can sway in many different directions. I may be pushing it saying superstar I agree, His size limits him to much but if he works hard enough it could happen. A lot of people said the same about Pavel early on the kid has boat loads of skill but is to small, well Pavel didn't listen to the "small talk" excuse the pun and look at Datsyuk now, he is a superstar. its a long ways down but Hudler displays the heart and potentially the skill, he just needs to keep working hard and make the most of his ice time. RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 IMO, Hudler's goal was one of the best individual goals by a wing so far this season.
GSBrooks13 204 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I dont think anyone can come on here and argue against the fact that Hudler's GWG the other night was a thing of beauty and that the guy has some great potential. I have been a big fan of Hudler's ever since he scored a hat trick in the preseason, last year I believe. This guy has a wicked wrist shot and the skill to put numbers on the board. Time will tell whether he will become a superstar but I would much rather have him playing in a Red Wings' jersey than on the opposing team, that much is for sure. Well, in all fairness, Hudler is nowhere near Datsyuk talent-wise. Plus, Datsyuk is noticeably taller, bigger and stronger on the puck that Hudler. Hudler's problem with his size is that he doesn't have the speed of a Martin St.Louis, which will keep him from ever being an elite scorer. If he bags 20 goals a year i'd be pleasantly surprised. Awesome goal, HELL YES! But 2 goals and 3 points in 12 games is awful. There's no other way to cut it. Personally, I think people saw his 15 goals and started to jump to conclusions about how great he can be. This is a kid who last year averaged a point every 3 games and this year is averaging a point every 4 games. I want desperately for him to succeed but I think he tops out as a 15 goal 35 point guy the rest of his playing days. Please let him prove me wrong though! datsyukismyfriend 4 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 great goal, but other than that goal he's done nothing to impress me this season. who knows what the future holds for hudler, but my hopes have diminished quite a bit. i don't think he has the size or speed to ever be a legitimate and consistent threat at the nhl level. Guest LivingtheDream Report post Posted October 30, 2007 With the first class ass riding he is getting from Babs he has an opportunity to really come through or go home crying like a little girl. So far I think he has shown much more of the former.
Guest Hatethedrake! Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Here's a question...if Mats Sundin is being shopped by the Leafs at the trade deadline and the deal breaker is Hudler, do you move him? Myself I'd want to make sure I had Sundin signed for at least 2 more seasons to make that trade. If we're going for the Cup this year and next year then I'd take Sundin over Hudler for sure. Now the Wings would have to give up more than Hudler I would think. Also who knows if the Leafs would even want him. Would you guys do it? Yes? No? I'd move Hudler but not Filppula. I agree with Mickey Redmond. Flip has the potential to be a Red Wing for many seasons. Hudler, Ericsson and a 1st for Sundin. Do you do it?
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 Hudler, Ericsson and a 1st for Sundin. Do you do it? Like I said in another thread, Sundin's not going anywhere. And if by some miracle he does go somewhere, it won't be Detroit. But to answer your question: NO. I could bear to part with Hudler, as he is and will forever be expendable. But definitely keep Ericsson out of it, and only throw in a 1st rounder if we're getting something truly special in return, not an aging one-year rental. YoungGuns1340 1 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 IMO, if Hudler ever got more confidence from Babs, hed be doing a lot better now. But Babs has always been on Hudlers ass it seems, even moreso than Flip or Kopecky. I really think Hudler has 25 goal potential, and I still think he could hit 20 goals this year. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 I hate to say this, but Hudler misses Robert Lang. Fillpulla isn't nearly as good a set-up man as Lang was, and despite the goal the other night, I don't see Hudler as the kind of player that can create his own goals through sheer puck dominance like we see Hank or Pavel pull off. He's too easy to knock off the puck.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted October 30, 2007 well how can this be? Lang is lazy and he sucks ^^ that thread should be stickied I'm not saying that Lang wasn't lazy, because he was, but as far as Hudler is concerned, he played better with Lang because they had some kind of chemistry on and off the ice. But you can use this as a compliment to Lang if you choose to.

Hopefully both Rex and Flip will at least start to produce some what - I don't need them to go crazy, just play decently...
