I know the season just started but since the "good" teams we've played haven't beat us yet, I wonder if we can beat ourselves. Who do you guys think would win this game.

Bowman-1 vs - - Babcock

Osgood -1 vs - - Hasek

Zetterberg -1 vs - - Datsyuk

Holmstrom-1 - vs - - Franzen

Hudler-1 - vs - - Filppula

Drake-1 - vs - Cleary

Draper-1 vs Samuelsson 1Kopecky vs 2Maltby

Ellis-1 - vs Downey

Ritola-1 - vs Hartigan

Lidstrom-1 - vs Rafalski

Chelios-1 - vs Kronwall

Lebda-1 - vs Lilja

Quincey-1 - vs Meech

Ericcson-1 Kindl

B. Smith-1 - Pyatt

This is my first post so take it easy on me, it turned out nothing like I planned.

Along with the rest, welcome. The inter-squad game eh? hmm ... I think Scotty's team would win as it is set up. Especially with this seasons early start, I think to make it more balanced, Zets and Lids would have to be on opposite teams.

Thanks for the welcomes everybody.

U're not dumb, I'm just bored so I posted this but it doesn't read well, sorry.

Something similar I'd like to see is what one of our teams would be the best overall? Like in a fantasy world where our team from 1997 could play our team from 2002. (yes that would have 2 yzermans, 2 shanny', etc. but they would be different ages) Or any year for that matter. Doesn't have to be a year we won the cup, those are obviously just years where we had strong teams.

Welcome to the forums. I'd go with Scotty's team as winning.

Nice avatar by the way. I always like a good Dibert comic, even if business humor isn't really my favorite thing. :P

Scotty's team.

Kinda unfair with the best defenseman, forward, goalie (gonna raise some eyebrows), and coach all on one side.

Agreed. But it would probably be pretty close. :hehe:

I'm pretty sure the '02 team is the best of the bunch.

Disagree, I think the 97 team would win. There defence is much better and forwards are younger and as good imo.

The '02 defence had the Norris trophy winner and runner-up on separate pairings, with an up-and-coming Jiri Fischer playing far beyond his years. I think it'd be hard to say that the '97 defence was "much better" regardless of the fact that they had Konstantinov.

That being said, I felt the '97 Red Wings felt more like a "team", whereas the '02 Red Wings felt more like the Yankees with the hired guns they had in their lineup.

That's true, Konstantinov does it for me though, Vladdy, Murphy, Lidstrom and Fetisov was a fantastic defence.

But I know what you mean, they seemed like a team, complete with every intangible. Europeans, North americans, Skill, grit, good goaltending, offence and defense. Plus they had fantastic chesmistry and always picked up for each other, had great role players and great leaders.

The '97 team had a better mixture of physicality than the '02 team did, as someone already pointed out. Also, Yzerman, Fedorov, Larionov, and Shanahan were better players in '97, especially Stevie before the injuries kicked in. Likewise, the top 4 defensemen were better in '97 than in '02. The biggest advantage for the '02 team is that Hasek is better than Vernon, and his playoff numbers were better than Vernon's.
