Barrie 900 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 No to Sundin, Matts is the franchise, it would take to much to bring him here. Remember what it took some teams to get players last year at the deadline? The only big name player I'd bring in is a goalie. Up front we're fine, all we need is 3rd line guys, like what we did last year (Bert, Kyle).
sergei_is_still_a_wing 1 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 nine game win streak and we need sundin to stand a chance of getting anywhere. i still dont see whats wrong with letting the ZDH line destroy everyone and letting the other lines score on the PP. then at even strength all the other 3 lines need to do is keep the puck out of their own net. game over. if it aint broke don't fix it. im not ready to pull the trigger on dismantling team chemistry to land a big name. free agents if we have cap room, go for it. but dont give up prospects or even solid 2nd/3rd liners for one guy... lfd250 1 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 Only and Only if for a second round pick. Face it, it would be a total rental player. He'd sign back with the leafs and retire a leaf. I just don't think I can handle another look back at the trade post. J/K

Donaldjr2448 43 Report post Posted November 10, 2007 Armchair GM: Would you or wouldnt you. To Leafs: Meech, 1st rounder, 2nd rounder Sammy ( or replace sammy and a 2nd with FIlppula) To Wings: Mats Sundin You'd think they;d take it? Kinda pricy for a rent-a-player. That is about all I would like to see the Wings give up, but not Flipper!!! I hate giving up draft picks, but I would consider that if we picked up Mats!! Also I think losing Meech could comeback to haunt us later!! I would hope we wait until the trade deadline to do something like this!!

I would hope we wait until the trade deadline to do something like this!! derek meech is a goner , we got kindl, smith, ericsson, quincey, pyett + rafalski and kronwall for another 5 yrs , meech wont last the season here im sure he'll be trade bait at the deadline .... edmonton traded smyth for prospects Ryan O'Marra ,Robert Nilsson and the Islanders' first-round pick in 2007. So it'll have to be something like that but maybe higher considering our draft pick will be 28-30th overall as opposed to 16th derek meech evan mcgrath or jri hudler or darren helm and 1st and 4th round picks

Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted November 11, 2007 (edited) The one thing everyone is forgetting is, Sundin has a no trade clause. There are only a handful of teams he would probably waive it for. If at the deadline we are in 1stin the conference, and were to make an offer for Sundin that JFJ liked, I believe Sundin would waive his clause to come here. I think an offer of 1st,4th, Hudler/prospect, Meech/prospect could land Mats. Remeber, this is John Ferguson Junior, it may not like like much to US, but knowing him, it's a GREAT deal. Also, you may be one of those people that believe keeping your youth is better then picking up some deadline player. Sundin isnt just any deadline pick-up, IMO Sundin could put us over the top, were already the best team in the league, imagine us with Sundin Edited November 11, 2007 by Detroit # 1 Fan

T.OWingsFan 7 Report post Posted November 11, 2007 So, I was watching the TSN show and they said Does Sundin belong in the Hall of Fame? Well, when it came Dregers turn to speak he said "He's got the numbers, and when he wins a cup with Detroit this year, it'll be a lock" Now, it could be Dreger throwing it out there, but he's an Insider and knows alot about the Leafs. I for one, would LOVE to get Sundin, and's size, grit, skill and leadership, it would cost a little bit. Premature, but it caught me as odd that he would bring it up. I've said it since last June. -Wings NEED a second line centre BAD. -He signed a 1 year deal in Toronto, re-negotiating a 2 year deal down to this one in the process. -He has never won a cup and it is no secret he personally believes this would be the ultimate (better than Sweden winning Gold). -He's bruised with all the seasons leading the craptastic Leafs under his belt, and would leave or sign as a UFA for a contender. Of which the Wings are one. -He does have loyalty to the Laughs fans and would not go to the Senators. That pretty much rules our the East considering there are no other real powerhouses there. So a contender in the West would be an ideal choice. With the collapse of the Dinks, the Wings appear to be the only powerhouse here. -He knows alot of Wings and would probably love to compete for a contender to really have a chance to win a cup with guys like Lidstrom, Zetterberg and Holmstrom. -Wings have the room to make a move for him in March should the Laughs be out of the playoff picture. -He would not have to be the go to guy like in Toronto and this would ease him abit so he could relax alittle more. In Toronto he's the main dude on a s***ty team. In Detroit he's one of the crew. 2nd line centerman (and what a 2nd liner he would be!). Dregs knows what he says it all fits perfectly. I've said it since last summer. Watch and see.

The problem is that the Wings second line IS broken. In the NHL you NEED to have second line scoring help, if you don't, you won't go very far in the playoffs. Sure, if you are satisfied with great regular seasons, and playoff stumbles, leave this team alone. The Wing should finish in the top 5 in the West, and if they are lucky they will win 2 playoff series. And just for reference, this year 6 different Wings players have scored on the PP, ZDH, Cleary, Hudler, and Rafalski. ZDH has combined for 11, and the other 3 have netted 7. So where are the 'other lines scoring on the PP'? You can't really count the 2 Rafalski has netted on the PP, as he is a dman, so that leaves Cleary's 3 and Hudler's 2. That's 5 out of 16. The Wings need someone to come in and be able to provide some help for ZDH in the playoffs. Back to the topic, Sudin is a sexy pickup, but highly unlikely. He has the NTC, and has been pretty vocal about not wanting to go anywhere.

Hank 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2007 That would sure solve our secondary scoring problem...although he's said numerous times that he has no interest in leaving Toronto. Yeah. The only way it could happen is if Sundin allows the trade and then resigns with the Leafs in the off season. That being said, I'd love to have Sundin in a Wings uniform. wingnut40 176 Report post Posted November 11, 2007 I doubt it will happen. I don't see the Leafs giving him up. Yeah, and Nick said he wouldn't like to see Sundin in a Wings uniform. I'm about 99.99% sure Nick's a smart guy and knows what would be helpful to the team, although he has little authority. We already screwed up when we traded Williams for Calder. Yeah that's a good idea. Then we get rid of Calder at the end of the season.
