BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 I wouldn't discount the possibility the Wings keep their options open about acquiring a starting goaltender via trade if they're not satisfied with their goaltending by the time February rolls around. Holland mentioned the possibility himself at the start of last season, citing Edmonton's playoff run after picking up Roloson at the trade deadline.

What makes you act this way? I don't even have any favorable leanings for Dom, but your joy in watching "elite" players fall is bizarre to me. It reminds me of St. Louis fans whenever the Red Wings are brought up. edit: you likely won't respond to this. That's fine... I don't exactly know why I asked, except perhaps expecting you'd have if not a good, then at least an illuminating answer. Dom has been one of mine since his days in Chicago... just happend to come to this team cause he wanted his cup he was never going to get without the wings.. just cause he puts on a red sweater doesn't mean i have to like the guy. Just the way i feel.. always have always will... cups won't make me like him... wish i could change my heart with him... but i really can't. Its not the change of heart bitterness because someone went to another team (fedorov) that many like to feel on here, its a long term.. never liked him feeling... I am not going to fake it because he is on the wings. And i defer to my avatar Bring up Howard.... Send down Dom! Edited November 21, 2007 by OsGOD

I am not going to fake it because he is on the wings. And i defer to my avatar Bring up Howard.... Send down Dom! I have kind of the same feeling. Although I can't say I really dislike him. When he came to Detroit a year ago, I was worried he would be the ego-maniac he's known to be. However, he really wasn't and he blended it quite nicely with the Red Wings and with Oz in particular, which is important to me as an Oz-fan. This doesn't mean I'm all of sudden the dude's biggest fan. But I do think we as fans should treat him fair and not bash him around at the first chance we get. I saw that happen to Ozzie quite a lot over the years and it's not a nice thing. Like OsGod said: You don't have to like someone just because he puts on a Red Wings jersey. But since Dom represents our goals and dreams, the least we could do is support him .... and thus the greater good.
RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 You don't have to like someone just because he puts on a Red Wings jersey. But since Dom represents our goals and dreams, the least we could do is support him .... and thus the greater good. This is Detroit, we have patience and dedication for almost everything in sports... but we always use two different Detroiters as the scapegoat every single year. Whoever is QB for the Lions, and whoever is in net for the Wings. It always happens, regardless of who we have. Also, I'm the exact opposite on the Dom v Ozz issue. I've always been a Dom fan, throughout his career. I vividly remember him in a Buffalo jersey, and when, with the Czechs, he shut out everyone for Olympic gold (he used to stop breakaways). I have never ever had confidence in Osgood. I like the guy, respect him, and all that, but I just don't expect him to come up big in the playoffs. I've seen all of his memorable moments, like his game 7 shutout against St Louis where Stevie scored the goal. I root for Osgood when he's on the ice, but I'd never feel confident going into the postseason with Osgood in the pipes, regardless of regular season statistics. I know my opinion isn't popular, but as Osgod said "just the way I feel. Always have always will."

GMRwings1983 8,803 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 Trade Hasek and get Legace back here. Right, and maybe we can also trade Howard for Cujo. This way Wings fans can take turns bitching about their favorite scapegoats of the last 15 years. Besides, the Blues have a love affair going with Legace right now, they won't trade him. Booster313 138 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 (edited) Like it or not Dominik Hasek is the second best goalie to ever wear a Wings Jersey. You can mention his name in the same sentence as Patrick Roy and Martin Broduer. He is one of the greatest of our time. He may have slowed down or he may be having a slump but at least give him credit where credit is due. ALL great goaltenders have had subpar years and if Dom has waited until 42 years old to have his then so be it. Babcock will make the right decision and if necessary Ozzy will get the starts when the real season begins, but Hasek has to be allowed to try and work through this. His resume' has earned him that. eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted November 21, 2007 Like it or not Dominik Hasek is the second best goalie to ever wear a Wings Jersey. Hasek is only the second best goalie to wear a Wings jersey when his ENTIRE career is taken into account. That's sort of the same as saying that Terry Sawchuk is the best Rangers, Kings, Bruins and Leafs goaltender ever. Being a shadow of your former self and happening to lace up for a team doesn't mean all of your career accomplishments can be attributed to your 'rank' with that team. As far as the second best Wings goaltender ever? You're right, he does play for Detroit right now...but his name is Chris Osgood.

No one said you did. What my point is is that your attitude is petty. Not being a favorite is one thing: cheering for their failure when they haven't done anything malicious to deserve it is another. That's the thing that is off-kilt. It takes energy to be petty, so I've never understood any people who are.

I am trying to PROMOTE success...Dom is FAILING up here.. send him down to the minors let him improve and let Howard Graduate up here. And i don't have to watch dom... its a win win win all around really... no failures. This will also get our years to come deadly Duo acquainted with each other... which will promote strength in the future... Face it... Howard/Ozzie are the future... What better time then now to get started with that future. Edited November 21, 2007 by OsGOD

As far as the second best Wings goaltender ever? You're right, he does play for Detroit right now...but his name is Chris Osgood. The worst we've done with Dom in net is a loss in the 3rd round of the playoffs. Well said, Hasek has indeed underperformed in net for us. Sure, Dom's best year were in Buffalo (by a long shot), but he has played well for us. We've never performed below expectations with Hasek (without injuries being the difference maker). The same can't be said for Osgood (your silly choice for #2 all time in a wings outfit). I remember last season we were essentially the underdogs in every series we played (Experts were predicting losses to Calgary and San Jose). No, Hasek didn't "win" either series for us, but he played his role as well as can be expected. Osgood has underachieved in the playoffs many times in a Detroit uniform. I hardly see how people can imply that when Hasek came to Detroit that he still wasn't the 2nd best goalie to wear the winged wheel.

I've said before that the best thing that could happen for Legace's career (and popularity) is for him to have a great year but have St. Louis just miss the playoffs. It wouldn't be as funny if it were renowned Brodeur caliber goaltender Chris Osgood (* In a parallel universe) taking a nosedive. I'm really not interesed in pursuing the fact because it isn't that big a deal to me, but it's the same point: you're being petty. Like it or not, that's what you are showing of yourself.
