I gotta man up here. And admit that some of my Osgood comments earlier in the season, are SO far off now. Ozzie has exceeded expectations and then some. He's been so calm and poised in net. He's looking like a '97 version of Osgood. Hell, he might look even better than he did in '97. And even though I am a huge Hasek fan. I must say, taking any starts away from Chris would be insane right now. And this is a HUGE jump from what I always said before. I always said he's a mediocre goaltender. And that he would never start for the Red Wings again. Although I did say he could start for other teams out there. I just never thought it would be in the Winged Wheel. But my God. Ozzie has really stepped his game up. And IMO not only should Ozzie share starts with Dom. But Ozzie should get the majority of the starts. The guy just looks like a man on a mission right now. So basically it's crow eating time for me. Cause this time last season, I was in a VERY different boat. And also, I will say, Chris Osgood could definitely win a Cup as a starter for this team. Never thought I would ever say that. But it needs to be said. Cause its damn true.

It's just awesome that it is HIM too, he is such a great guy and Detroit is his home. He just belongs here. It would be so sweet to see him lift the cup over his head again in the winged wheel.

Honestly, I could really see that happening this season. I guess it depends on who Babs is gonna go with in net for the playoffs. But IMO, he would be a fool not to give the load to Ozzie. The guy is basically a brick wall this season. And he's stayed healthy too.

If they were to get passed the first rd with Ozzie in net, then i'd have to eat some crow too as its always been my contention that they cant win in the playoffs anymore with him. I still do feel that way although i admit he's playing great so far.

Ultimately, i think Hasek needs to be the guy. But if he continues playing like s***, then obviously he shouldnt be in there.

I believe his record since returning to the Wings is now 43-10-12. That's kinda astounding. Considering many of his losses came when he was roughing his way out of injuries, that's a fairly astounding record. This isn't a new thing if you ask me. I've always felt he could play close to this level. Since returning to the Wings, when healthy, he's been nothing short of outstanding. You can really tell that his already steady play was greatly improved by all the technical work he put in during the lockout and offseasons.

You'll never find me saying that Osgood is the greatest, but he is great and he's consistently been more than enough goalie for the Wings to win. He brings far more to this team than meets the eye and this season in particular, it seems the team plays better in front of him. It helps that he's such an outstanding puck handler given our system as well. It's good to see him finally being recognized in Detroit again. We're always so quick to overlook just how good many of our players are. Gotta love passion, but man, it sure can be irrational.

Yeah its tough. Cause in order to find out if Hasek will play great or not, we have to take away time from Ozzie in net. Which right now, seams like the worst thing to do. But I definitely agree that Hasek needs atleast the chance to regain his status. And may the best goaltender win. Either way, things sure are looking great between the pipes for the Wings.

Well said people.

I wonder what brought about this amazing transformation in his game. I mean, he's been pretty solid throughout his career, but he hadn't looked great in recent years.

The only thing I can think of, is hearing about how after last season ended, Ozzie started some new workout program. I think he even lost weight as well. I think I remember hearing that the workout was suppose to help players with speed. Which is ironic, considering Ozzie hasnt really been utilizing his speed much this season. He's just been extremely solid, calm and poised between the pipes. But who knows, maybe after being in the league all these years, then finally switches his workout routine, it's affecting his game too. Obviously in a good way.

Awesome thread. Glad some of you can admit you were wrong. :P

I just went on TSN, and Ozzie is #7 in player rankings, and #3 in goaltending rankings. WOOT OZZIE!!!! :D

Just think about it. Ozzie has 25 of the Wings 34 points. HOT DAMN.

What pisses me off, Is you cant even vote for Ozzie for the all star game. I think you have to give a write-in or something. Which tons of people wont go out of their way to do. Most will just click the little links, and send out there votes. Which is pretty dumb. You would think they have the technology to take Hasek off the main thing and add Ozzie. Also they need to take Emery off there and add Gerber. These guys deserve to be all stars!

I don't think it's going to matter anyway. I voted in Ozzie tons of times, but I found out that in the end only the starting goaltender gets voted in. The other two are up to the coaches. I think if Babs is the Western Conference coach that he would for sure pick Ozzie to be in the game.

While it was made clear in the season by Babs that Hasek was still #1 even after Ozzie started 7-1, apparently that has changed now. Osgood is clearly the favored goaltender at the moment.

The first dish of crow today comes with blue cheese and mixed raw veggies! All future crow-eaters will have to eat their crow sans extras!

Everybody slide over, and make some room! :D

Preach on brotha! I couldn't agree more. And it takes a big man to eat crow. Tasty huh? I've been there before. lol

Props to crow eaters. Good to see someone willing to be a man (I mean that in a non-gender specific way) and admit something turned out different than he expected.

I'm really impressed by Osgood myself. To me, he looks not so much like a 1997 version of himself, but an entirely new goaltender. He seems to be playing a different style. More butterfly, more aggressive coming out to cut off angles. Very solid, not giving up the backbreaking soft goals that seem to demoralize the team.

I have to eat crow, too. In my case, it's because Jiri Hudler seems to be a legit, NHL scoring winger. I had my doubts that a 4'9", 78lb. forward :) could really thrive in the big leagues, but the kid looks like he's the real deal.

you must be rounding up. :P

I have to agree about Hudler. I think he'll always be a streaky goal scorer, but there was a part of me that thought he's just not gonna cut it at the NHL level because of his small stature and lack of foot speed.

I agree with your post...however, it's way too early to say who should play for us in the playoffs. I still feel Hasek needs to lead us to the promise land.

How did the phrase 'eating crow' come about?

I am guessing cause it tastes like s*** to eat and you only eat it when you say something that was proved wrong later on.

Idk for sure... i just know most things i say never warrant me saying i would eat crow for ;)
