Playmaking Goaltenders

I didn't get to catch the game last night, but I checked the highlights first thing later that night... and that pass that Osgood fired 2/3 down the ice to set up Hudler's goal was a thing of beauty. I haven't watched many games this season but regardless, it was seriously an awesome play.

It was also a pivotal explanation in of itself of the use of a goaltender who can move the puck well. Who else right now does do you guys think? Aside from Turco, aside from Brodeur.

I've always been a fan of these kinds of hands-on goalies but the more you see it, the more you realize how much they can add to a game int he right moment.

Being a NHL center ice guy, I tend to see alot of goalies in action from night to night. And IMO Marty Biron has been that guy. Not only is he a good playmaker(for a goalie) but he's also smart about his puck handling. And it just seams like he's always looking for a long pass to help generate more offense. So I gotta go with Biron.

Turco's my choice. I remember a few years ago he made that perfect pass down the ice to Modano who sped away on a breakaway goal. The problem with Turks is that he often becomes a playmaker for the other team because he's too wild out there for his own good. But he's still the best playmaker in my book.

Believe it or not, but it was Hedberg.

If we are just going on this year alone....

I gotta agree with big "E" that Biron has been special this year.

Also suprising is Gerber... I know crazy.

OZ

IDK if any of you have checked out The BJ's but Pascal has been a bit of a playmaker.

Turco yes, but the disasters he pulled twice in one game last week really set him down just a notch. He's good though. Alot of goalies in the NHL are really good at playing the puck, it's easy to narrow down the goalies who are horrific at it though, notably Giguere and Hasek.

On the flip side, having a goalie that can go high and off the glass hard helps a ton too. I love playing the puck, especially when I can rifle it off the glass.
