arnoldbuck 0 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 Relax everyone, "Sid the Kid" has come through, and actually saved the NHL! I know it means in general, but still the article comes across as sounding like one play single handedly saved the game.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 I know it means in general, but still the article comes across as sounding like one play single handedly saved the game. Are you familiar with The Onion? It's a humorous "newspaper" that makes jokes, but doesn't report actual news.

I really don't f'ing like Bettman I'm curious to know if anyone has actually thought Bettman has done a good job while commish. Personally, I think the guy is a pos, but there may be supporters for him. I've never heard anyone say something nice about him though.

True, but you would think after people read the article they would find it somewhat fishy.

Personally, I think the guy is a pos, but there may be supporters for him. I've never heard anyone say something nice about him though. The only thing I can think of is that the Owners and the players are making a hell of a lot more money now than before he joined the NHL. Hard to argue how much of that is due to him. From a fan perspective, there isn't much to like about the guy. I don't like the guy that much as a person, but I don't dislike him as much as many fans do. I think the guy gets far too much heat for many things that are really not controlled by him, but oh well.
Saran 1 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 The sad thing is I could actually see Bettman referring to Crosby like that ... The Onion is pretty good, they were in The Aristocrats naming the elements of the perfect joke

It took two sides to make the problem, but it seemed to me that Gary's sides wasn't as willing to haggle when they were at a standstill. toby91_ca 620 Report post Posted December 3, 2007 it probably isn't warranted, but I don't like the guy because of the strike. It took two sides to make the problem, but it seemed to me that Gary's sides wasn't as willing to haggle as much as the union was. These are examples that I am pointing to as Bettman getting more of the bad rap than he deserves. You are right, it takes two sides to make the problem and not only that, there is more to the NHL side than just Bettman. In terms of who is more willing to haggle, I'd say the NHLPA was more of the sticklers there. Goodenow was as firm against the cap as you were going to get. If you want to single out individuals, I'd start with him being the biggest reason for the lockout and length thereof, but I don't think it is fair to single out anyone.
