timothy1997 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2007 how can you have a top 10 european hockey player list and not include Stan Mikita? top statistical leaders by country pretty good list they got here from wikipedia.
eva unit zero 271 Report post Posted December 4, 2007 how can you have a top 10 european hockey player list and not include Stan Mikita? top statistical leaders by country pretty good list they got here from wikipedia. Because he grew up in Canada, and generally 'European player' is taken to mean 'European TRAINED player'. Otherwise, you'd have to include Dany Heatley, Steve Thomas and Owen Nolan as Euros, but could not include Olaf Kolzig.
MUDSHARK 0 Report post Posted December 4, 2007 10. Selanne 9. Forsberg 8. Fedorov 7. Salming 6. Hasek 5. Peter Stasny 4. Kurri 3. Mikita (honorary Euro) 2. Jagr... (drumroll) 1. Lidstrom

Otherwise, you'd have to include Dany Heatley, Steve Thomas and Owen Nolan as Euros, but could not include Olaf Kolzig. exactly. stan mikita shouldn't be anywhere near a best euros list. my top ten, no particular order: Mats Sundin Jari Kurri Peter Forsberg Borje Salming Vladimir Konstantinov Sergei Fedorov Teemu Selanne Peter Stastny Jaromir Jagr Nicklas Lidstrom

RedWings Gone Wild 6 Report post Posted December 4, 2007 Maybe? He's probably gone abroad to watch team canada play before . My top ten: And since u specified NHL, i'll keep a lot of guys who spent their glory years outside the NHL off my list (Fetisov, Larionov, etc..). 1. Hasek (flame me! pls!) 2. Peter Stastny 3. Lidstrom 4. Jagr 5. Kurri 6. Mogilny 7. Bure 8.Sergei Fedorov 9.Mats Sundin 10.Selanne Clear the way for Zetterberg, Datsyuk, Ovechkin, and Malkin!
miksteri 55 Report post Posted December 4, 2007 In no order... Lidström Selänne Kurri Jagr Fedorov Larionov Salming Hasek P Stasny AND Esa Tikkanen!!!
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted December 4, 2007 Borje Salming wasn't THAT good. He'd probably be a top 5 on a most INFLUENTIAL Euro list, but definitely not top 10.

Olaf Kolzig, being a goalie, still got the most points among all NHL players from South Africa.
akustyk 84 Report post Posted December 5, 2007 I guess European player here means: one who excelled in NHL. which is not necesarilly always been the case. my answer: 1. Igor Larionov. and I feel pretty ashamed to see only 2 ppl listing him in top 10. this guy in his primes was Whine Gretzky of CCCP which had outstanding crop of players. I guess when you ask people to make a list of the 10 best European players, most of them will try to make a list with players from the leading countries in hockey (Sweden, Russia, Finland, Czech Republic.) But it would be very easy to fill the list with only Soviet players. There were so many superb players in the 70's / 80's / 90's. Not every one of them was able to have a career in the NHL, so a lot of them are 'forgotten'. And that's a shame, really.

I think moreover it's that people are making lists of the best European NHLers. A list of the best Europeans would include (at the very least) Tretiak and Fetisov above Larionov. The thread said Europeans in the NHL... otherwise Igor should be the least of your concerns, there were many soviets that were as good as if not better than Larionov (Maltsev, Kharlamov, Tretiak, Petrov, Mikhailov, Makarov, ect ect ect).
