Opie 308 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 (edited) I don't think that was a long enough suspension and if he appeals it they should make it 60 games!!! He is starting to show signs that bad things are going on in his head and he apparently learned nothing from a 25 game suspension, what in the hell are 5 more games going to teach him. Suspend him for the season with no pay!!! If you walked up to a co worker and punched him in the face do you think your boss would listen to your side of the story, especially if the act was caught on camera. Granted punching is allowed in hockey but trying to decapitate some one and trying to perform an achillies -ectomy on another player are horrible acts and need to be treated as such. The more I have thought about it the more I think he has lost the PRIVILEGE of playing professional hockey! Edited December 19, 2007 by Opie
edicius 3,269 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 Definitely not enough. Should have been at the very least a suspension for the remainder of the season, including the playoffs.
ben_usmc 253 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 It wasn't as bad as it was hyped up to be, but he does have a consistant basis of acts like this
hardcoretom21 71 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 I think most people here don't realize how much 30 games is.. It's quite bit, if you think about it that's almost half the season, AND half his salary. I agree with the suspension

Opie 308 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 I think most people here don't realize how much 30 games is.. It's quite bit, if you think about it that's almost half the season, AND half his salary. I agree with the suspension I disagree and think that you are overlooking how severe his actions were, swinging a stick into some one's face and getting suspended for 25 games only to attempt to stomp some one's Achilles out with a razor sharp skate blade less than a year later shows that he learned nothing from his first suspension and 5 more games will do nothing. Thirty games is a lot of time, so wasn't 25. But what good is a suspension if the player doesn't learn from it. BTW half of his salary is $237,500, that means he is still owed $237,500 for the rest of the year. Yeah I feel bad for him, he only gets to make almost 5 times what I make in a year, ohhh poor soul. We should start a fund for him! He has shown that he can no longer play hockey with aggression, rather should no longer play with aggression, because as he plays that way he can not control himself. On the other hand this is Chris Simon, if he doesn't play that way no one would sign him.

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 I don't think this particular instance is as intense as some are making it out to be. Really stupid but not quite so crazy. But, this guy is nuts and has made about 8 too many crazy plays. After awhile you really do have to wonder when someone's going to draw some real-deal lines. 30 games is serious business and if this was his first incident I'd say it's about right, but Simon is a cheapshot artist. I'm all for fighting and a good, rough game, but this kind of garbage is totally unnecessary.
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 What I don't get and maybe I fail to understand is, if he does this type of stuff on the ice and lets say there's things going on in his head. It would be scary if he just snapped one day on the street. Not saying it's going to happen, im just saying. There's something wrong with his head
rick zombo 3,739 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 I think the problem with Simon is that he's shown an inablity to control his temper on the ice. Some people in hockey (Don Cherry, for instance) think that he's a great guy. And while I don't disagree, I think he's clearly dealing with issues and he's a danger to other players. And I'm not sure he'll ever be able to change this.

And I'm not sure he'll ever be able to change this. He could be perfectly normal and a good guy off the ice. He knows his role though, no doubt. Does he recognize any sort of lines though...? Who knows and like you said, that's the concern I have. You know, there's clean hits and clean dirty hits that raise an eyebrow and keep it interesting...then there's dirty-dirty hits like a few Simon has pulled and you've just got to be able to draw a line with those. handyandy_101 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 Personally, I am just SICK and TIRED of having to hear about this guy, or any other disciplinary issue like it. There are too many players in this league exhibiting real talent and doing incridibly positive things for the game to have the media harp on s*** like this "Chris Simon saga". Instead of talking for hours about Simon, and other guys like him, who have never, and never will contribute anything positive to this game, why not look at the magic that Dats and Z are putting together in Detroit, or the way that Iginla is dominating in Calgary, or the way that guys like Sundin and Lecavalier are just carrying their teams. No, as soon as some goon does something stupid, the rest of the league apparently shuts down operations in order to devote the full eye of the media on this one stupid issue. Meanwhile, the real talents, the guys that are selling seats, are relegated to a 10-second blurb at best. It just really pisses me off. Who gives a f*** about Chris Simon, he has nothing to contribute whatsoever to this game, and so I jsut couldn't care less.
zata40 3 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 I'm actually happy with the 30 days he got. It would have been nice if he got the rest of the season off, but did anyone really think the league has the guts to do that?
rwfan007 18 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 just imagine what Roger Goddell would have done. lol. he would have put his foot down to simon, thats for sure.
Happy Pancake 6 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 If you set the league record for suspensions 2 times in a row, that in itself should be grounds for a rest of the season suspension. Still 30 games is reasonably long.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 It's more games than I expected from the League. Might be about right, but I kind of thought the rest of the season would have been appropriate, including playoffs.

Yzerfan1999 81 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 Interesting...I thought I was being nice when I guessed it would be 35-40 games. I think Simon's own actions - leaving the Islanders and seeking help - affected the outcome of this to his own advantage.

haroldsnepsts 4,826 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 I can't say I'm surprised. Oooh, so he won't be able to play until February 21st? What a severe punishment for a guy who just came back from a record-setting suspension. I knew it wouldn't be, but it should've been the rest of this season and playoffs, at least. He is the definition of a repeat offender, and they give him a whopping 5 games more than last time.
Turkey 0 Report post Posted December 19, 2007 As I've said elsewhere, I think the league is utterly clueless when it comes to this sort of thing. What does he have to do, take his skate off and and swing it like a machete? Absurd. Wake up NHL. Wake. UP.
