Packer487 3 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 (edited) I can't friggin' believe the NFC Championship is coming to Lambeau Field. I give the Giants all the credit in the world for pulling off that upset even with all their injuries in the secondary. That was an impressive performance, no doubt. These are two pretty different football teams than met in Week 2. The Packers didn't have Ryan Grant then...well, they did, but I think he caught just a single screen pass in that game. Regardless, the running game wasn't anywhere close to where it is now. And the offensive line didn't have a performance in them like they did against Seattle. They hadn't come up with the Big Five package yet, because Koren Robinson was still suspended. Edit, and Greg "14 TDs in 14 games" Jennings was hurt for that game. Can't believe I forgot that one. He's kind of good. On the Giants side, I don't believe they had Brandon Jacobs in that game and Eli Manning hurt his shoulder the week before. Their defense really didn't get things going until the next week (though how much of that was them not getting going until the next week and how much was what GB was doing? Hard to say). The reasons I like the Packers: -First and foremost, it's at home. -The Giants secondary is dinged up. I don't know the status of Sam Madison (DNP today) or Aaron Ross (left the game with his arm in a sling) for next week, but if they don't have those guys, it's going to be very tough to match up against the Big Five + Donald Lee. -The track in Green Bay isn't going to be nearly as fast as the turf in Dallas. That'll slow down those speed rushers. If you don't believe me, check out Patrick Kearney's stat line this week against a gimpy Mark Tauscher. 0 tackles, 0 sacks. If they can't get to Favre--and it's tough as it is with how quick he gets the ball out--it's going to be tough for them to advance. -Brett Favre vs. Eli Manning? I know who I'm taking. I'm not looking past this team by any means. It was a 35-13 game in September, but it was 14-13 entering the fourth quarter and the teams have changed a lot since then. I have to respect any team that beats Dallas on the road and plays NE as tough as they did. That said, I really like Green Bay's chances to represent the NFC in the Super Bowl. That city is going to be absolutely electric. It's going to be a long wait until Sunday... Edited January 14, 2008 by Packer487

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted January 14, 2008 (edited) either way you slice it, the Super Bowl will have great stories leading up to the game. --If New England makes it, the talk of the town will be about the perfect season and will overshadow any other story, including Favre if the Packers make it. Also experts will debate on if Tom Brady is the greatest QB ever, totally downplaying the other qb on the other side even if Favre and the Pack are there. Brady makes it to the Super Bowl and wins it again, there is no more debating about the greatest qb ever is. --If San Diego makes it and plays Green Bay, then the focus will shift to the NFC and Favre & the ol' man topic will ran amuck. Favre will be asked "is this your last game" many times. Like stated above, if Favre makes it and Brady doesn't, then the greatest qb debate will have a strong case for Favre. --If San Diego makes it and plays the Giants, then they will go back to the 2004 NFL Draft and how the Chargers selected Eli Manning & then traded him to the Giants for Rivers. Also having another Manning in the Super Bowl will be a special story. Edited January 14, 2008 by timothy1997

Guest jaytan Report post Posted January 14, 2008 The NFC was pretty easy. I voted Giants because they are a great road team and have a really awesome defense. Hopefully, the Packers will lose their first game so we don't have to hear about it, but the competition is pretty weak so I figure they'll make it to the championship game. In the AFC, I was tempted to go against the grain and pick Indy to repeat, but New England is just too good. The Pats should make it to the Super Bowl and win it, but don't be surprised if a team like San Diego surprises everyone and gets to the championship game instead of the Colts. They could even give the Pats a game, but I don't see them stealing one at Gilette Stadium. Super Bowl - Pats 41, Giants 17 Wow, those are pretty good predictions so far. Hopefully I stay on a roll. It's utterly amazing to me that anyone could hate Favre regardless of what team their a fan of. A good example is Sakic......I hated the Avalanche but you can't hate Sakic, much like Avs fans never hated Yzerman. Sidenote: The whole spelling comment you always make is beyond a 3rd grade insult. Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 15, 2008 I like Favre anyways, but those BoFlex commercials just make me wanna go to the gym whenever I see them Anyone watch sportscenter and see the guy on the Chargers saying the Pats are afraid of them? Will people never learn? If you say that stuff about the Pats, that only gives them more reason to beat you. SD's problem is that they run there mouth, I hope the Pats give them a spanking. I'd love to watch a Super Bowl where Green Bay and New England are featured and it's 25 degrees and snowing. Good thing it's in Arizona. I live in Wisconsin now. I think the Packers do have a shot at NE. The Pats defense really isn't incredible, it's just that they can outscore everyone and make them one-dimensional because teams can't really run the ball once they get down by 17 points. The Packers have averaged 32 points a game since Grant took over at RB. They can score with the Pats, and they've got the CBs to match up with those receivers. It'd be a MUCH better game than people would think and it wouldn't shock me if GB beat them. Just gotta get past the G-Men first. I made the comment during the snow bowl that that's how football should be played and I'd love to see the Super Bowl at Lambeau. I do think you'll see a cold weather city get the SB at some point (probably the new stadium in New York) but GB doesn't have the hotel space to get them to put it there, even though it's the one place that every football fan should go once in their life. He was a monster last game. I won't lie, I was one to say that nobody can beat the Pats but the more the season progressed and you saw Favre take over and the Packers play some damn, damn good football I started thinking they have a serious shot. I'm already putting them in the SB, I don't see the Giants beating them. Not when Eli is staring at Harris. They may not win but I'll tell you what, it's going to be a good game to sit down, drink some beer, eat some bbq, play some euchre and watch. SO much beer would be sold if it were at Lambeau. I can't stress SO enough. I guess maybe if I put it in bold and italicized it.
Guest jaytan Report post Posted January 16, 2008 (edited) I don't mind Farve being a drug addict. Drugs are fun. I do mind him being a dumb hick who should have retired years ago and is probably using HGH in order to stay in shape. I'm also sick of seeing him in every other commercial on TV and I'm sick of everyone else telling me how great they think he is. Of course, the thing I hate most about him is that he beat the Lions way too many times and ruined their few semi-recent playoff appearences. And why the hell would anyone want to go to Green Bay for any reason, let alone for a Super Bowl. People thought Detroit was a bad pick but at least it's a city. If I never pass through the cow crap-infested state of Wisconsin again in my life I'll die happy. Edited January 16, 2008 by jaytan

The Packers for the majority of their history haven't even played all of their games in Green Bay, playing 4 games for the longest time at Milwaukee. The Packers are more of Midwest's team, Wisconsin's team than Green Bay's team. Not to mention the hotel accomendations would be terrible in Green Bay. I can understanding people not "liking" Favre because he continuously beats their team, but you seem to hate him and for no good reason whatsoever. Timothy1997 "hates" Favre because he always beats the Lions, but he respects him and recognizes the guy is one of (if not the) best to ever play. So, let me ask....is the rest of the country (aside from you) dumb to root for a guy that holds all the major records for QB, has been honest with the public/media, and doesn't dress up like a d*mn cliche? There are hundreds of thousands of fans all over the world that love him for being salt of the earth. You don't see him all "blinged" out. You call him a hick....the guy is from Mississippi, not the midwest. He's the definition of real and the NFL could use a hell of lot more people like him rather than more guys like Moss or T.O. Get over it.

On top of that, not only would the hotel accommodations be terrible, they flat out couldn't do it. People that don't have tickets to the game go to the city the Superbowl takes place in regardless. Green Bay and its surrounding cities couldn't handle all the visitors that would flood to the area. With surrounding cities, Green Bay only has around 300,000 people. Until it grows to atleast double that it just wouldn't work. Even though I love living in Green Bay, thats the honest truth. However all things outside the stadium aside, inside Lambeau Field you'd have the best (most legendary) atmosphere in the history of the Superbowl. Get over it. I am rooting for the Packers this weekend based on wanting to see a Green Bay-New England Super Bowl that should be one of the best matchups ever in the big game. If #4 can beat Brady in XLII, then I am prepared to call #4 the greatest QB ever. If Brady beats #4, then I have to lead towards Brady as the best ever. As far as my personal feelings for #4, I look at the Red Wings for example. Chelios was Public Enemy #1 before he joined the Wings. I have gone from flat out hating Chief Runnin' Mouth, to admiring his work ethic and playing ability, to buy his red wing jersey. I would think that #4 would be received the same way for me if he wore the Honolulu Blue.
