The difference between DET and CBJ Announcers

Datsyuk is coming in on the empty net, but passes to Draper instead. The announcer says, "An unselfish play from an unselfish player."

Zherdev is coming in on the empty net, but passes to Beech instead (the Columbus equivalent of Draper). The announcer FLIPS. OUT. "OH MY GOD, PASSES TO BEECH INSTEAD, CAN YOU BELIEVE IT?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! WHAT AN UNSELFISH PLAY!!!!!!!! WHAT AN ALL-AROUND GREAT AND PERFECT GUY. I THINK I JUST JIZZED... ... YEAH, I JUST JIZZED!!! THANK YOU, ZHERDEV, FOR BLESSING ME WITH SUCH A FANTASTIC AND UNEXPECTED ORGASM!!!! You see how creative this guy is? You're just sitting there, watching hockey, and, -SHIZAM-, he performs a miracle. A future saint? I think so."

That's a little over exaggerated, but not by much. Their attitude towards Zherdev disgusts me. Thought I would share that.

I'm not trying to be biased here, but I honestly believe that the Red Wings have THE best announcers in the entire NHL. Not to mention, I believe I read a few months back that Ken and Mickey were ranked second in a Sports Illustrated piece on the best announcers in the NHL. I think that the Dallas announcers got the nod for #1. I know that goes against my "best" philosophy, but Ken and Mickey do a fantastic job of calling a game. They aren't biased in the least, call it like it is, and aren't afraid to say what they think at any given moment. They provide the sports history, general knowledge about several players (be it from our team or another), and also provide some pretty good laughs. That is a recipe for a pretty good hockey broadcast (or any sport for the matter).

I just never get annoyed with them is all. I've listened to other team's broadcasts and after a while they just sound like babbling idiots.

I'm guessing part of the problem is that a lot of announcers are employed by the team - so they are told be be positive and not say anything negative (ie, be biased).

It seems to be a problem that particularly afflicts struggling expansion franchises - don't criticise the team, it might affect attendance! <_<

Remember it's Zherdev with a chance for a hattrick. They're not exactly used to seeing him being unselfish.

That said, he does seem to be more inclined to use his teammates this season. Maybe he's growing up.

Nashville used to have the worst announcers, but i think somebody in the front office told them to tone the homerism down a bit this season and they seem to be much better. Colorado guys aren't even that bad this year. Columbus announcers definitly hold the torch as the worst homers right now. Plus they have the cannon that they keep firing after every goal like they're a college football team. But i guess with the number of goals they score, they don't waste too much powder.

Back in the day when Colorado was our biggest rival, one of the many things that made them so distasteful was their announcer's "Oh, Thank You! Thank You! Thank You!" call whenever they scored a big goal. I think he went to St. Louis a couple years ago. Just one of the ways the Avs have become far less despicable in recent years.

That s***bag you allude to is now the Blues announcer, and I've had to listen to that retard during several Blues-Wings broadcasts this year.

I posted in another topic that I thought the Columbus announcers were the worst in hockey, this helps my case.

Weber and Crisp down in Nashville are just as bad. Ducks, Kings and Blues are horrible with the play by play. Avs guys can't even pronounce the Wings players names correctly FADOOPULA and DATSYIK .

That raises and interesting question. Is Datsook better than Datsyuk? Is Hasek better than Hassick? Is Flipewla better than Filpulla? And is Hoodler a better scorer than Hudler? How about that guy Kopecki...I hear he's dominant.

Annoucers of a home team are going to show some bias and homerism. This should not be a shock to anybody in here.

Honestly, I could really give two piles of ratpoo what annoucers of any teams say about the Red Wings or anybody else. I know how good the Wings are or if another player or team is good or bad, I don't need to go on a 7-millon dollarr marketing campaign if an annoucer might not be giving a player/team their due or is mispronoucing a player's name or whatever else. Their opinions aren't going to change from my campaign or me ranting or raving. Annoucers being homers, or having special tendencies towards discussions, is not going away anytime soon, so why even bother getting upset with it?

I just like to watch the games, commentary/analysis is pretty much secondary to me.

If stuff like this bothers people that much, there's a mute button on your remote, or tune into an AM radio broadcast.

We should sign them all and send them to Flint

This one should be familiar to you.... I listened to a few Ice Gators games, and their guy was more concerned with the Gator Girls and fights than anything else.. "Man, those Gator Girls are looking good tonight" LOL That's been a few years ago needless to say.
