GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 I hope someone puts Downie on the IR, because he's been asking for it. He's starting to remind me of Tootoo.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 I cant wait till Philly and Ottawa play again. I hope McGrattan and Neil feed him his ******* lunch all night long. Cannot stand Steve Downie, you sucker punch Jason Blake, JASON EFFING BLAKE. He's softer then half of the Leafs, go after Tucker, or Hal Gill and see how that works out for you. edicius 3,269 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 And, once again, watch the league do nothing to Philly. Even though they're allegedly "on notice".
irishtemper14+25 11 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 ridiculous, every team should have a bunch of enforcers in the ahl and then when they play philly call them all up
sputman 1,268 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 you know, there are some players that you hate but you'd love to have on your team. dion phaneuf comes to mind, maybe even barrett jackman. this d-bag, though...i wouldn't want anything to do with him. you just know he's a total ass right to the core...one of those loud, obnoxious guys at the bar who starts crap and lets his friends clean up after him. i'll be giddy when i watch somebody hand him his own ass. BlueMonk 102 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 It was pathetic. Grapes is right about this guy, that was a really cheap shot. And unless there's some injury I'm not aware of, Maurice is an idiot for not dressing Belak in that game. What are you keeping the guy on your roster for if not to play against a team like the Flyers?
imisssergei 0 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 You have to wonder how much more the NHL is going to let Philly get away with.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 (edited) As Ron Burgundy says, "Stay classy, Philadelphia." Steve's a classless ***** to put it nicely. He smiles about the fact that he sucker punches him right after. Edited January 6, 2008 by HockeyCrazy3033
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 6, 2008 It was pathetic. Grapes is right about this guy, that was a really cheap shot. And unless there's some injury I'm not aware of, Maurice is an idiot for not dressing Belak in that game. What are you keeping the guy on your roster for if not to play against a team like the Flyers? It was a bad move for so many reasons. 1.) Bell was out with an injury 2.) McCabe was out with an injury and 3.) Tucker is playing like a girl. I used to think Maurice was a good coach, but the bad coach in him is showing this year. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 Yeah, it's pretty pathetic that Belak wouldn't be dressed against Philadelphia of all teams. As lately as a few years back, the Leafs still had a tough team that dressed multiple enforcers, but look at them now. Maurice has got to go after this season. They need to make Tie Domi their next head coach.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 Bring back Burns, Quinn and Domi as head and assistant coaches
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 I HATE DOWNIE.... That son of a ***** needs to be taught a lesson.. Pj Stock on cbc said last night, that he better keep his head up, because he's going to get what's coming to him
shannyfan1414 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 So philly is trying to bring back the old days are they? Downie should be suspended for 20 games since that squad is on double secret probation. Make the team pay a very hefty fine and force out the coach. HOw are they are able to get away with this type of crap? First Hatcher almost bites a guys finger off then this. I don't think that we need to go over the rest of the crap they have pulled this year. Sure am glad we don't play them this year.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 I used to like Downie. Former Spitfire, has had his problems, but he's an agitator. What he did there was just ridiculous. The hit on Mcammond didn't get to me as much as this.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 I think Downie's intention is to be the center of attention. Rack up as many penalty minutes as possible.

seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 It wasn't just a sucker punch, it looked like he tried to thumb him in the eye. Regardless, at least Philly finally got some other form of punishment with Hatcher's headhunting actually injuring his own player in that game.
RedFX 48 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 I don't know whats funnier. The fact that Downie still has a roster spot, or the fact that Jason Blake was in a fight. And for the record, Tootoo is not a dirty player.
BeeRYCE 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 Also for the record, Cherry said Blake wouldn't hurt anyone...?
RedFX 48 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 Also for the record, Cherry said Blake wouldn't hurt anyone...? Two questions on that video 1. How did the refs miss that when it was right next to the play 2. When Blake was on the ice for that last 50 seconds, how did he not get pounded by the entire Penguins line-up. skacore 2 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 I must be the only person that loved it. nope I loved it as well.. Blake is a whiny little ***** and this spiced things up a bit, it makes for an exciting game. Blake was the one who was chirping Downie after the McAmmond hit, he was saying s*** to the media like Downie should never play in the NHL... he shouldn't open his mouth where it doesn't belong
Lady in REd 0 Report post Posted January 7, 2008 Steve Downie sucker punches Jason Blake As Ron Burgundy says, "Stay classy, Philadelphia." Yeah, that's rediculous. I'm sorry but nothing makes me angrier than a cheap shot like that, it's a disgrace to good hockey fighting.

I think Steve Downie is a legend. He makes teams think about dressing enforcers. Enforcers being dressed = more fun hockey. More fun hockey is good for all And to whoever said how much is the NHL going to let Philly get away with, well, what have they got away with? And this was just a little 'kindergarden' punch. Theres no need to investigate it, a double minor for roughing was fine at the time and its fine now.
