commadore183 103 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 Makes sense that the Wild will try to get some revenge on the Wings after the pounding they took the past few games. Sucks that it had to end this way. Still, we got a point. May not mean much now, but it gives us some momentum.
Sgt. Angry 23 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 I suppose that Ozzie is going to fall into the usual "sign a big contract, get named to the all-star team, so start to play like crap" trap that so many others have done.

Doggy 130 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 The story of this game was Lemaire had the Wild forechecking, and the Wings were completely caught off guard by it and didn't/couldn't adjust. Sort of the opposite of what happened when Detroit played Edmonton in the playoffs a couple years ago. They were a run and gun team all year, but MacTavish had them trap during that series and the Wings were flustered by it. Agreed. The Wild were a very hard-working and well-coached team tonight. Something changed, besides the goalie. Maybe they don't like the idea of being sold and were p.o.'d tonight.

I don't think so. Just one of those nights. They will do better next game, for sure.
savaking72 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 Sammy needs to go. He always makes bad decisions, never connects on passes, and he is a puck hog. The only thing he has is a good shot, but that is it. Man, I hate watching him play. I thought it was all over after the Cleary goal. Osgood was off and on tonight, but for the most part it was a good game (besides the terrible defense). I could have swore that 3 of their goals were scored by someone not guarded in front of the net. That last goal in regulation was a nightmare. Oh well, Saturday's a new day, and a game I can't wait for.
Nero 20 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 The last thing I would call this game was exciting. It was a round-about wad of trash by Detroit.
GuloGulo 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 Wild are also in deep **** and need every point they can get. Wings stayed Datsyuk and Z split. It's a matter of urgency and desperation.
Detroit # 1 Fan 2,204 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 Danny was once again our best player tonight, and we got a point. Dont get too riled up folks, we're guranteed a playoff spot and the Wild will barely make it. There softer then we are and there starter couldnt stop a beachball tonight. Good for them, they need these points and we dont. I dont see us fairing well against Ottawa with Dom in net, I honestly think he's afraid of Spezza. Plus, we need a better defensive game against Ottawa or else it'll be a ******* gong show.

Plus, we need a better defensive game against Ottawa or else it'll be a ******* gong show. utterly ridiculous. Hasek couldn't care less about Ottawa or Spezza. It's just another game to him, and hopefully to the Wings (and a better defensive effort would be welcome, yes). edit: upon a moment's reflection, it wouldn't be a GDT if someone didn't b*tch about Hasek. Can we wait for a game he's actually playing in to do that, though? Edited January 11, 2008 by puckloo39
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 (edited) I'll second that. Hasek probably could really give a hoot who he's playing and I highly doubt he's out for "revenge" since it's his former team. Not really familiar with any drama that might have happeend between him and Spezza a few years ago though. Anyhoo, with how nutty this game was, I'll take a point even though it was disappointing for them to tie it back up at 5-5. Wings are still trucking along pretty good. Sgt. Angry 23 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 Osgood did not play like crap. Didn't catch the whole game, so I'll defer to your judgement. But it does get old to lose games where the other goalie faces twice as many shots, but stops more. And have the Red Wings EVER gobbled up a replacement goalie??? Seems like every time the other team makes a goalie change, the bastard absolutely stones them. Too bad we couldn't have had Downey in the game to kick somebody's ass - to at least make watching this game not a total waste of time.
GuloGulo 0 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 no you're not supposed to let 5 in on home ice, but other than that I saw excellent hustle and urgency from the Wings. They weren't all synched but had some massive pressure going in the offensive zone and damn near solved Harding more than once. It is what it is. Not even the worst loss of the season. Heck, hardly the worst loss this month (counting the Blues game).

wings_fanatic 677 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 That is dumb... Dom is not scared of anyone... he is goalie, and like every goalie his job is to watch the puck, whoever is coming at him, and Dom has been great lately. To be honest... this is a "good" loss for the wings because they have not played great the last 2 games (this one included). Last game the offence had trouble getting things done, this game our defence was lacking big time.... wings let the wild play around with the puck WAY too much behind our net today... With that said... I am sure that his loss is a nice wake up call for the wings. Mike Babcock will be sure to fix the problems up, and have a very strong team to play against the sens saturday. The sens best be ready becasue, after this loss, Detroit is going to play very good with the puck on Saturday... and I hope Dom starts in net becasue Ozzy just seemed off tonight, not bad at all, just off... and Dom plays good against his old teams... so wings shake this off... and kick the sens ass Saturday

betterREDthandead 58 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 Can't complain too much about any game where you earn a point. Ozzie could have been a tad better. Then again, the backchecking could have been a tad better too - man oh man did he get hung out to dry on Fedoruk's goal. Still, a point's a point, and we now have 70, and the fact that there's almost as much separation between #1 and #2 as there is between #2 and #15 is RIDICULOUS. 16 points between #1 Wings and #2 Stars....12 points between #2 Stars and #14 Oilers. Gonna be a fun race to the playoffs, and we get to munch popcorn and let 'em duke it out.

gcom007 1,465 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 Sounds like it was a good game for me to miss...sounds like the whole team was off from what I can gather and it's not like Ozzie wasn't bound to have a rough start at some point. He's human. I like the guy, but you can't expect him to always be perfect. I think it's good timing honestly. He just had everything go right off the ice you might say but on the ice where it matters things hit the wall apparently a bit. It'll keep him on his toes. Even when you've played as great as he has this year, it's so easy to slip if you're not careful and sometimes you need bad games to remind you of how quickly the tides can turn. He'll put in the work and stay tough though and come back strong. I wouldn't be surprised to see another off game or two first though.

Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted January 11, 2008 (edited) Bad game for the wings, oh well. We got a point out of it. I think we'll still make it to the playoffs. We won't even remember this after we destroy the Sens. Flips goal was sooooooooooooooo freaking awesome. Him and Datsyuk played it gorgeously.
