seeinred 1,488 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 Definitely a good fight, thanks for sharing. Some good old-school toe-to-toe action for part of it too. I gotta say though, my favorite fight so far this year is Ruutu-Tucker just becuase of how much I love Ruutu.

Lidsyukerberg 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 We have.. Downey AND Drake Downey I can agree with, but Drake I would have to say would be questionable in that area. I have yet to see Drake win a fight decisively. I've seen him lose more than anything, and I have never felt after watching one of his fights that he gave anybody a sound pounding. So, I can agree with you about Downey, every time he's on the ice I look forward to seeing him lay something on a guy. But, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on Drake. I'm an enforcer fan, so when I think enforcer I think Probert, Kocur, McCarty, now Downey (to a littler lesser extent, but it's probably only due to the new NHL), but Drake just doesn't fit into that group for me. But it's just my opinion.

I was just hoping he'd give out a few cheapshots here and there, I didn't think he was going to have over 5 fights in the season total.
esteef 2,679 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 Yeah, but Drake is 40 years old. The fact that he's fighting at all is a bonus, and not something anyone expected before the season. I was just hoping he'd give out a few cheapshots here and there, I didn't think he was going to have over 5 fights in the season total. Yep, Drake's value will be shown in the playoffs when Downey's ice time will probably go down. Drake can match up against most scrappy forwards, brings the body and can play on the PK. Couple all that with his veteran experience and he looks even better. Cheers! esteef

That was my only point. I see Drake as a middleweight enforcer This I think I can accept. Edited January 16, 2008 by Lidsyukerberg

Lose more than anything? you must only watch Drake fight, because thats all that downey does is get his ass kicked. So, I can agree with you about Downey, every time he's on the ice I look forward to seeing him lay something on a guy. But, I'm gonna have to disagree with you on Drake. But it's just my opinion. Downey doesnt deliver these big hits that you think he does, Maltby and Kopecky deliver better hits then Downey does half the time. I cant see how Downey is considerd an enforcer, If anything he is more of a Rent-A-Cop, He plays the roll but he doesnt do the job. I cant recall a fight nor a hit where i said Wow downey really got him good that time. On a side note, Raitis Ivanans an Zack Stortini has a hell of a fight the other night too. Lidsyukerberg 0 Report post Posted January 16, 2008 Wow, no need to yell, I must have pushed a button. Downey: (maybe not as a Wing but still good) (This is a good one of him getting a sound thrashing by Brashear, but you gotta hand it to him for even standing up to him, he only comes up to Brashear's shoulders) (Not a spectacular hit, but it took Veilleux off his feet) Sure maybe no real WOW! moments, but he's got grit and isn't afraid of anybody. And like I said about Downey in my post I consider him an enforcer "to a littler lesser extent..." Now for some balance, here is some footage of Drake: (He didn't do too bad here, but got staggered pretty good with that first punch, and in the end he lost this fight) (This one was pretty good) (I don't know if I would call this a win or not) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ghgPMdm0_no http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sOfNLtbrDn4 (This one may make me rethink my feeling about not any fights he won decisively, he definitely got the better of this one) For me, Downey has it. But that's just my opinion and that's what makes the world great, we all have them, and are entitled to them. But from my seat, I see that Drake lost more in that list of footage than he won. GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 17, 2008 Awesome... I love May! Really? I've never liked him that much. I don't really know why. I guess it could be because he was a cheap dirty fighter in his youth who took too many liberties, but then again, so were some of my favorite fighters, such as Dave Brown for instance. I guess it's just one of those things, but for some reason May has been one of those cheap fighters that I don't like as opposed to one of the cheap ones that I do. May's actually my favorite player of all time believe it or not....the way he fights made me huge fan back in his Sabres days. Wild, yet with a technical side to him the way he switches hands alot during flurries. Yeah he does dish out cheap shots on occasion and has taken many a liberty, but it doesnt matter to me. He's just one of those guys i classify as warrior and plays with a ton of passion. MayDay!!!!
