At the start of the season when Henrik Zetterberg was tearing up the league and was leading the league in points, I was pretty impressed, but I didnt think hed be able to keep that pace up much. I honeslty thought hed fall back to being 15ish in the league in terms of points, and at best 9 or 10th, especially with his injury history. I did NOT think that hed be 5th in scoring at the 50 game mark. However, at this point in the season, hes only 3 points away from being #1 overall even though hes played 4-5 games less than all the other guys in the top 5. He leads the leauge in point per game pace as of now and, more importantly, 2 big competitors for the scoring title are injured - Alfredsson and Crosby - and another if you count Heatley. Also, it looks like Kovalchuk and Vinny are starting to cool off a bit.

So my question is, does Hank have it in him to win a scoring title this year, or are Kovalchuk, Iggy or Vinny gonna run away with it?

I would like to see him do it. Part of me believes he can. But I think he would have to play with Pavel near every night. I think just because of how much they are relied on in Tampa, Vinny will probably take it this year. Same deal in Atlanta with Kovy, and Iggy in Cal. True, Zetterberg is a lot better than our 4th liners. But we dont rely on him the same way those other teams depend on their stars. So they will get more time, more prime time, and probably hold the title at years end.

Personally, I'm just stoked to see Detroit have some boys up in the Top 10 in scoring again. It has been a while.

If Zetter's back holds up for the rest of the season, I think he has a great shot at it. I don't think he will let anyone run anyway with it - he has been so damn consistent all year. Hasn't he only NOT tallied at least point in 6 games this season?

It'll be him or Iginla. It shouldnt go to Lecavalier, an MVP should be good enough to have his team in the playoff hunt, and not be a cherry picker. Vinny wont be getting the Lightning to the playoffs and is a huge cherry picker. Iginla and Zetterberg however are hard working players that mean alot to there teams that will make the playoffs.

He does have a legitmit chance at winning the scoring race. As long as he stays healthy he will be in the top 5. Hell if he stays healthy i really think that he will be number 1.

I hope he is able to pull it off and end up with a heart trophy as well. He deserves it in my mind.

Koval is going to run away with it.

ehh hes cooled off a bit. No points in his last 3 games and hasnt had a multiple point game in about 10 games I think. Id bet it would be Vinny of the three I mentioned above. The other two will probably be relied upon to play a lot more responsable, complete game down the stretch run since Calgary and Atlanta will probably be vying for seeds whereas Tampa Bay wont. I could see a guy like Iggy having to play more Pk minutes and both of them having to backcheck their asses off to make sure theyre earning points for their teams in the standings, more so than personal points.

Which is a shame, because I dont like Vinny too much, but Im a huge Kovalchuk fan.

He just a good a chance as any of the other top 5 leaders right now. Go Hank! Of course that could mean his asking price goes WAY up. I'd like to think that he'll take a nice discount for us though. Don't forget though Dat's is only 5 points behind Z. How cool would it be to have the number one and number two top scorers in the league, hell I'd even take two in the top five!

Hank should get the MVP, because while others say he may benefit from a better team, I argue that the players on s***tier teams get a greater pool of scoring opportunities. Vinny, Iggy, and Kovi are all the near lone gunmen alot of nights. Granted Vinny has St. Louis and Prospal, Kovi has Hossa and Kozlov, and Iggy has Ku and a few others, but no one has quite the defensive ability of Hank and Pav, and you have to give Hank more credit because of his Point per game production and I think he has great NHL "appeal" which in the Crosby age we all know to be ascential.

All in all, Zetterberg is under appreciated, as with most Wings because of their overall consistent success. But I think, that if Lidstrom doesn't get the Hart we all know he has deserved for years, than Hank should at least get it, and either him or Pav (personally I think Pav) should get the Selke

1. He was talking about the scoring title, not league MVP.

2. Lecavalier isn't a cherry picker. I personally would prefer Iginla or Zetterberg but Vinny is a great player and would be a valuable addition to any hockey club. Being a good finisher doesn't make you a cherry picker. Besides, there's much more to his game than that. Ask Grapes.

Back on topic, I think Zetterberg could very well do it. Kovalchuk and Vinny's teams will both be sellers and not buyers at the deadline. They will most-likely lose some of the talent to help them put up the big numbers required.

As for the MVP, Lidstrom should get it. He probably won't because his contributions are too subtle but I honestly believe he's the best player in the world right now. No question.

I would take Vinny on my team in a second.....Are you sure youre not thinking of Marty St Louis as the cherry picker? Vinny does center him..........

I still think Datsyuk is going to put up more points than Hank this year. Sticking to it.
