Kronwall And 1st Round Pick For Sundin?

Rate this topic

I was watching the TSN telecast of Montreal making Boston their ***** when I heard the intermission crew talking about what teams would have to give up to get Sundin. As much as I love Kronwall I think I would pull the trigger if this is what it took to get him.

Just no.

Kronwall is one of the top 20 defensemen in the league this season, and has been playing a very solid all-around game. If he keeps it up for the rest of his contract at his current level, he is UNDERPAID.

Trading Kronwall means Lilja is our only remotely physical defenseman under the age of 40. Personally, I think if we add anything it should be a physical stay at home defenseman...so wh yare we trading away a good young two-way defenseman who plays physical for a rental forward?

I'm not interested in Sundin if he costs any roster player or Kindl. Beyond that, I would give up up to three of our other prospects plus one or two picks so long as the guys I mentioned stay in town.

Just to clarify - Pierre McGuire set out a couple of 'Best Case Scenario's' for the Leafs. By no means did this mean he thought the teams would actually do this, but these are the offers he said would be best for the Leafs in return for Sundin.

Wings: Kronwall, 1st Rounder

Canucks: Kesler, 1st Rounder

Sharks: Michalek, 1st Rounder

McKenzie thinks they will get a decent roster player and a combination of picks.

Didnt mean to imply that this was an official rumour, just what Mcguire would ask for for if he was GM. As annoying as he is he would probably be better than old man Fletcher.

Does McGuire SERIOUSLY consider Michalek and Kesler as good as Kronwall? Nik has 4 more points than Kesler, 4 fewer than Michalek. But he's a very good two-way defenseman...while the other two are mediocre defensive forwards.

But the real question I'm sure is on the minds of posters here..if Kesler or Michalek and a 1st gets Sundin, does that mean the younger, more prolific Hudler can get him straight up?

I doubt it. Jiri while a very solid player is very small.Kesler is highly regarded by NHL GM's due to his speed and size.Michalek did score 26 goals and 66 points last year. Maybe if Kenny distracts Fletcher with some Depends adult diapers or some episodes of Murder She Wrote we could make it happen.

Points aside, Michalek has great size and Kesler is actually great defensively, both are also 3 years younger and not as injury prone as Kronwall, you have to take that into consideration... also, the Wings' 1st rounder will be 30th overall, the Sharks and Canucks will be more so around 20th...for what it's worth... I'm not sure I'd rate them on Kronwall's skill level but you have to factor everything in

and Hudler is the same age as both Michalek and Kesler

Kesler has size and speed, but he's not a scoring forward. The Leafs will need a guy capable of putting up the numbers in return...and that's Hudler. Michalek put up 66 points last year with THORNTON. You don't think Hudler could have EASILY done so in the same role?

Based on ice time, Hudler was on pace for 26-17-43 over Michalek's minutes last season. You don't think that turns into a MINIMUM of 35-40-75 if he's with Thornton/Cheechoo instead of spending most of his time with a combination of Draper/Maltby/Lang/Samuelsson/Franzen?

Oooook.

What a crock! Everybody knows we're gonna trade Hudler for Joe Thornton straight up.

What????? NO!!!!! The obvious trade is that ever attractable offer of Meech and a 3rd round pick in a 3-way deal for Sidney Crosby and Ryan Getzlaf, where as each team get's one of those (Anaheim can have Meech, while Pittsburgh get's the pick) while the Wings get both Crosby and Getzlaf.

Plus, maybe at the end of things, they could get Thornton for a lucrative package of Samuelsson and a 9th round pick. Who in their right minds would turn that down?

Now why the hell would we trade for Crosby when we got McCarty coming up through the ranks!

Kronwall for Sundin + a first round pick is WAYY to much for a rental player. As said previously, Konner is turning into a bargain. Hes getting really good.

Minimum 75 points...lol...try max.

Milan Michalek might not be having a very good season but he's a terrific talent and if I were the Sharks he's be one of the last guys I'd trade.

I don't really see us giving up any roster players for a purely rental player. It would have to be for someone with a year left or something. Unless it's for someone like Hossa where you can start to throw in conditional picks and stuff depending on signing and production.

I think you're mistaken with regards to how draft picks are awarded now. While we'd all love to have the 30th draft pick, it's no guarantee -- the Wings would have to win the Stanley Cup. Unless we win the Cup, we won't be 30th. Because the Sharks and Canucks, depending on how far they get in comparison with the Wings, could very well have worse first selections.

Krownall and 1st pic for Sundin? Maybe Sundin a few years ago, but definitely not now IMO.

And I will assume (and hope) that people are joking suggesting giving people like Kopecky or Meech up to acquire Sundin. Not that I am completely closed to trading either of them or other players to make the Wings better, but there's not a snowball's chance in hell, in my opinion, that those such players would get Sundin.
