Downey definitely did not loose his fight. He won imho. Some might think it was a draw, but O'Donnel did not win for sure. I'm going to have to call bulls*** on this. Pronger went for the jersey grab. Nowadays most players aim for the center of the chest so they can do that little hold/jab punch. I think Pronger's a complete ****** but let's not be homers about this. It was an attempted jersey grab and not a deliberate eye gouge. The dude is 1/2 a foot taller than Danny. He tried to grab his jersey and those freaking yardsticks he calls fingers caught danny in the face. He wasn't trying to gouge him. Pronger stumbled midway through the fight, and if Cleary knew what the hell he was doing, he could have sent Pronger to ******* la la land with his head down like that. It's easy to believe the worst about him (since I kind of despise his whole persona) but I just can't tell myself for certain that it was deliberate. I thought Cleary did pretty well against a guy so much bigger. Kudos to him for standing up for himself. Kudos as well for getting Pronger off the ice for 5. However, I think Cleary did a good job for a non fighter (although there have been the "Fight Club" and bar fight rumors here and there on the boards), I think the only reason he turtled was because of the cut. He really looked like he was into it, when Pronger went down he did throw quite a few at the back of his head. I'll admit though, while watching the fight live I got really bummed out when he turtled, I even yelled at the t.v. "Don't turtle!" But when I saw him get up with the cut eye, I realized why he did, and it was the right thing to do in that case. As for the Downey fight. I consider myself a Downey fan, I really like him, but in this case, as much as I wanted to see a sound pounding, I thought that fight was a draw. I didn't see either of them get a decisive win out of it. Sure O'Donnel went down and Downey was on top, but anybody can lose a skate now and then in a fight, I don't think that's the determining factor. Yeah, I get a bit overzealous when I feel like people are being blinded by the homer bug. I can't help it. I hold the Wings to such a high standard and its fans as well. You look at the Vancouver Canucks forum. Vancouver fanboys are regarded as the worst losers in the game. I would just hate for this place to be like that where we all think our own s*** doesn't stink and we overreact to everything that happens to us. Like the Pronger alleged eye gouge. I mean, c'mon? And somebody commented about how Pronger was a ****** for punching Danny when he was down. Well, when they initially fell down Danny threw 2 punches at pronger who was down on his knees and unable to punch back. So just call it fair is all I say. Since he already had the clear advantage in size and experience, I don't think he was that scared of Cleary to have to open the match with a suckerpunch move. Having said this, Pronger is still a ******. Also, Downey is the man even if he didn't have a decisive edge in his fight. I'd also like to condone Franzen for sticking it to Bertuzzi after Bert's run on Dom. Not quite the same impact as a fight, but Franzen helped send the message that we weren't going to take that crap from them. Thanks for posting the videos esteef, both were good to see again.
