Detroit looking to reward Babcock with long-term deal

I'm all for it. Babs seems to be the perfect fit for this team now.

It might have been a bit rocky coming in with all the veterans, but now he has a younger core to work with and the players seem to respond well to it.

Having "the NHL coaching ranks' best hairdo" ought to count for something as well.

Stupid question here, but do they have any sort of a cap or minimum or anything for coaches/trainers/other personnel? Just curious.

Let's get that contract signed!

babs the best

Detroit fans (or at least readers of the Det News) think so, 78.90% approval rating this morning.

Haha @ that person who says Bab's only dominates an a weak division (which is wrong, we haven't dominated at all in our division), and once more a weak LEAGUE. What league do the rest of the nhl coaches play in?

Honestly, this guys on his way to winning the Jack Adams this year, and I've seen the majority of hockey journalists agree. Babs is a young guy. I see him as the type of coach thats gonna have a Hall of Fame career.

Isn't the 4th fastest to 200 career wins or something?

Too early to call it that way. Hopefully we'll win a few more Cups with him as the head coach, and then we can talk about HOF status. I'm glad they signed him, though. He seems to have a pretty good handle on this team.

Yeah but hes what? 45? He has a good 20 years to rack up some serious wins. And if he stays with Detroit for a lot of that where they provide him with good talent to work with and a comfortable situation, then I see no reason why it wouldnt be a good guess to say he could be Hall of Fame coach someday.

Good news. Especially considering he brought the young guys up playing his system and this would let them play keep playing it for quite some time.

I'm a huge advocate of Babcock sticking around for a long, long time. I've been saying it now for awhile. He just seems like the coach of the Red Wings. It's hard to explain how I feel about it past the obvious statistical reasons and whatnot. It's an intuition thing. He belongs behind the Wings bench. I couldn't be happier to hear this and it'll be great once it absolutely comes to its fruition.

Deal would like to get done sometime in the spring. I read a similar article on Detroit News Online as well this morning which quoted Babcock saying he doesn't want to go anywhere anytime soon more/less.

This guy is an absolute treasure! Get him locked up for a long, long time!

Honestly, we are VERY lucky to have Babs. So much for the locker room 'imploding' by last Christmas, ha ha.
