JayUp88 1 Report post Posted January 28, 2008 I was loooking through the pictures of the all star game and i noticed almost every other team has a mascot. Why don't the wings have one. Kids would love it, and since they are trying to market a little more towards the kids again it would be a perfect fit. I can't figure out how to put a picture in my post but the picture i was looking at is in the redwings websites pictures of the all star game if anyone want to put it up for me. Also if we did get one what do you think he should be. It might be hard to do but i think and octopus would be fitting.

Kcjacoby 10 Report post Posted January 28, 2008 Hell, we should just use the Belle Tire tire guy. But you're onto something, it would do something for the younger generations... but also another (stupid) thing I'd like to see at the JLA... Cheerleaders. It sounds stupid, but you'd be amazed at how much they actually help. Hell, JLA needs a good wake up call everyonce in a while... the place is dead unless its a dire need to score. I would love the JLA to be rocking for almost the entire game... get THAT advantage for our Wings...

Cheerleaders are actually part of sporting events, such as football and basketball, and not circus acts. That said, no cheerleaders plz

You know i see nothing wrong with haveing the Belle Tire guy there running around with a Wings jersey on taking pictures with kids. The Ttire would help with the Detroit image and Belle Tire is on everything already. As for the Cheerleaders i am on the same page as you. Why not have them. The JLA could use the pep and they are also nice to look at. most NHL teams have them.

vangvace 12 Report post Posted January 28, 2008 Uhh the wings do. Its that big ass octopus thats hanging in the rafters. Very very true. So we want an annoying mascot running around that dicks with adult fans and draws attention away from the ice? And we want cheerleaders to dance around and draw attention away from the ice? Either one of these tells me two things: 1) Your product isn't exciting enough on it's own if you have to inject false energy. 2) It's no longer about a hockey game as much as it's about making it an "event". Then again the last time I was at the Joe it was a rock concert that was interupted by a hockey game.

But let's be honest, the experience would not be the same if you took away the jumbotron, announcers, goal horns, etc. and were just left watching the game. JayUp88 1 Report post Posted January 28, 2008 So we want an annoying mascot running around that dicks with adult fans and draws attention away from the ice? I think your missing the point here. Yes you might not want a mascot running around the stands because you think you might be distracted by him and not be able to sit and watch the players on the bench during TV time outs or watching the Zambonis during the intermissions. I get that. But I know from experience with kids that they love the sports mascots. They love getting their pictures with them, they love getting to meet them. I'm not saying we could use a mascot to entertain the 30 year old in the stands I'm saying it would be great for the kids. bitter much?

The Detroit Red Wings announce that they change their names to the Detroit Little Caesers and we get that pizza guy as our mascot. then we get the goalie net made out of crazy bread. and the puck..well you get the idea what it will be made out of ... there you go! We will have a mascot and everyone will be happy. the game will be more like a party than a game, like an "event".

vangvace 12 Report post Posted January 28, 2008 bitter much? A little, and it's also been a rough morning at work. Plus I am a hockey mascot hater. You are 100% right on the kid factor for mascots and could be a good thing for marketing by having it make appearances around the area.
Learn2LuvIt 252 Report post Posted January 28, 2008 How about we make our mascot Andrew Jackson also know as "Mr. Twenty Dollar Bill". In addition to crowning him our new mascot, we could also lower ticket, parking, and concession prices. The slogan would be "Save Your Mascot!!". Point is....If you really want to engage the younger generation of Wings fans, make it fairly inexpensive/easier to actually attend a game a few times a year! That's what did it for me twenty five years ago! Besides, how enthralled is a young Wings fan going to be if he only see's glimpses of the masoct watching games on TV if he/family can't afford to go down to the Joe. I had to be in early for my client today and he didn't show up for two hours Its all about the Kids, I'm still thinking we could use the Belle Tire guy in a Jersey. Krystal 41 Report post Posted January 28, 2008 The Belle-Tire guy would be a great idea, my daughter already gets the giggles when he comes on the TV screen. If we ever made it to JLA, and he was there - she'd probably flip. He's rather kid-friendly. I think a giant octopus might scare a couple of the real young kids..
