SweWings 45 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 Awww too bad - hope he gets better soon. He's finally coming out as a potential top-pair defenseman.
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 (edited) You gotta feel for this guy. He just cannot catch a break with an injury every now and again. And, unless his play just magically drops off the map, or he stays injured for this for years and years (i.e. Uwe Krupp "dog-sledding" incident), I think his play as of late has shown that the long-term contract he signed was worth it, and I will still stand by this opinion despite what many people will probably call him "injury prone". He is under cotract until 2012, so that is a LONG TIME before we should say that the contract is disappointing or what not. Plenty of time for him to get back on the ice, plenty of time for him to perform well again as he has done recently. You can't expect him to just change his game overnight, which is aggressive more often than not, just because he might get "injured". He's not just going to not throw his body around all of a sudden. Signing him to a long-term contract is still not a joke or a bad move by management right now, so we all need to calm down in that regard. As with the separated shoulder, I'm guessing roughly he'll be out towards close to the end of the regular season, best case scenario I am guessing late February. I'm definitely no doctor though...I just think shoulder and separation is rarely ever good. If it's just a week or so like Coach Babcock says, I'll be ecstatic, cause Kronwall has been great as of late. I will confidently say though it is far from doomsday for Kronwall like some have perceived in here. Edited January 31, 2008 by SouthernWingsFan

I did seperate my shoulder in a football game and I can vouch for the pain. I was back on the field in 2 weeks, but the doc diagnosed mine as a mild seperation and I was only 15 ,so If Kronner's is mild too I would expect him back in a week or so. If it was more severe he could easily be out a month or more. Personally I would like to see Kindl brought as a replacement just for the fact that we would need a more offensive defenseman in that spot ,but he may not be ready. I am going to defer to the Wings management and assume they know more than a 35 year old dude who cant even remember where his skates are. He'll be back, and then we can evaluate how it has effected him. Until then, we play on. Like we did without Zetterberg and Homer. I hope they call up Quincey. I grew fond of him last spring. Opie 308 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 Listen I like to stick up for the wings players as much as I can, but if some one gets injured every season, be it sprained big toe, pulled groin, separated shoulder, Torn MCL, ingrown fingernail, they are by logical process an injury prone player. Having said that, I am not saying ship the guy off, he was one of the top 3 d men on this team, and is showing signs of being a very good dman. However if he is slow to come back from this the wings have to be very weary of him. He is signed until 2012, and that is a long time if he is going to miss an average of 20-25 games a year. Izzy24 44 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 you keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means. (sorry I couldnt resist ) I was really starting to think he would make it all season too. *hopefully* this isnt too bad and he isnt out for too long. I think it means this, what am I missing? edicius 3,269 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 It's notable that this is his first upper body injury. All the previous injuries have been lower body, I believe.

GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 Why doesn't Quincey get called up? Meech is the poor man's Brett Lebda, which basically speaks for itself.
Inultus 12 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 Ah,and the obscure "The Princess Bride" reference is lost.... I wouldn't exactly call Princess Bride obscure. Anyway, Kronwall had at least 2 giveaways last night, one of which resulted in a goal. I know he's playing better than previous seasons, but I'm still not too sure about him. Regardless, his injury was classified as a mild separation, so he'll miss 6-10 games probably. So what? We could lose 6 games and probably still be leading the NHL. No big deal, call up Quincey, we'll see what happens.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 However if he is slow to come back from this the wings have to be very weary of him. He is signed until 2012, and that is a long time if he is going to miss an average of 20-25 games a year. And these aren't even postseason injuries. I have no confidence he could make it through a deep run.

Reds4Life 51 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 (edited) I hope he's back soon, I don't think he's injury prone (unlike for example Havlat who can hurt himself), but that he has some bad luck. This kind of injury can happen to anyone..like to Heatley few weeks ago. Edited January 31, 2008 by Reds4Life
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 Kronwall is the very definition of injury-prone; he's prone to injury, as his track record shows. It's frustrating -- he's been shaping up, but this is looking very much like a career-long curse.
OsGOD 3 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 listening to some music i found a new theme song for my dear friend kronner.... i love you bud, but: "It's the same old story Same old song and dance, my friend It's the same old story Same old story Same old song and dance"

12Newf 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 i cringed when i saw him go to the ice last night. like others have been saying at least he went down now and its nothing serious so hopefully he will be back in top form by the playoffs. now as for malik, the current asking price is much too high right now and no teams seem to be interested. for anyone who doesnt know, according to sportsnet the price is a top four defenseman for malik. rob blake, the price remains to be seen but i imagine it will be ridiculous. personally i hope holland pays particular attention to the firesale in toronto and goes after hal gill. he is big and strong and solid defensively. here's hoping cliff fletcher's price is reasonable...sammy and drake for hal gill (note sarcasm)

OsGOD 3 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 IMHO Fedorov would be the perfect defensive fit along with providing the much needed goals in the post season...
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 Poor Nik. He's been great in the last couple months. I guess the only good thing to take out of this is since he has one major injury a year, that this is it, and come spring/playoff time he'll be and STAY healthy. *crosses fingers* I want Kyle called up. I think he did a really good job last season when called up, especially in the playoffs.
HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 IMHO Fedorov would be the perfect defensive fit along with providing the much needed goals in the post season... Couldn't agree more. I always think to myself.. hmm everyone says the Wings either need a scoring winger, or a D-man. Why not get both in Feds! LOL he can do whatever is asked. Sounds great to me! Sergeiwasmyfav 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 IMHO Fedorov would be the perfect defensive fit along with providing the much needed goals in the post season... I would love to see Sergei back here. I agree with you 100%, and I think it is also worth noting that he always raised his level of play in the playoffs. He was a huge part of our Cup wins in 97, 98, and '02. He is older now, but I think he could still contribute, and being in the playoffs again with the Wings may rejuvinate his play. 40#1Fan 0 Report post Posted January 31, 2008 Report from practice today is that defenseman Niklas Kronwall will be out a week to 10 days with his shoulder injury. There will be no callup from Grand Rapids. Instead, Brett Lebda (wrist) will return to the lineup Friday after a one-game absence. Derek Meech will remain in the lineup for his 12th game of the season. http://redwingscorner.blogspot.com/
