timothy1997 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 (edited) Article I know this has been talked about in here, but I thought once he decided to play in Sweden, he was done with the NHL. Curious to see what team he will sign with. He couldn't hurt this wings team. Sorry folks. The quote was supposed to say "my goal is to get back to the NHL" Edited February 1, 2008 by timothy1997
Rice 42 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 As I've said in other threads, the Wings should sign him. Virtually no risk, super-high reward.
timothy1997 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 As I've said in other threads, the Wings should sign him. Virtually no risk, super-high reward. I agree. the line of Zetterberg-Forsberg-Holmstrom would be freakin awesome
Rice 42 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 I agree. the line of Zetterberg-Forsberg-Holmstrom would be freakin awesome The greatest benefit of signing Forsberg would be the ability to keep Datsyuk and Zetterberg together; let's be honest, they're great apart but they're close to unstoppable together. Forsberg would give the Wings an elite talent up front on the top two lines and PP units. Plus, who knows what he could do for a guy like Hudler or Samuelsson? Just look at Hejduk's numbers when he was still with Colorado. Sign Forsberg and deal for a defenseman.

Grittzkey 1 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 Foppa coming to the wings, really limits the chances of D-Mac coming back to the wings, Not enough roster spots to go around. Maybe we could ship out Sammy and Franzen for a solid d-man? i could only wish.
Yzermaniac192005 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 Foppa coming to the wings, really limits the chances of D-Mac coming back to the wings, Not enough roster spots to go around. I know what you mean, but to take a page out of Dave Dombrowski's book, if you can get a Peter Forsberg, you get him. If you can't, you're still happy with what you have. Not quite what he said but for you Tiger's fans, you know what I mean. That being said, Kenny should try to get him, regardless of Mac. If Mac does (and I think he will) get into shape and ready to play for the Wings come playoffs, all that does is add depth. Let me just ask, would anyone here rather have Hudler and Kopecky? Or Forsberg and McCarty with those two as possible depth? I think I'll take the 2nd choice.
wingsfan40 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 I would be totally down if he came here! We have like 14 mill in cap space...I say we give him 4 mill and we would still have another 10 to play with...what would be wrong with that?

timothy1997 0 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 Mac is not gonna be a part of this team come playoff time. Next year is a different story. Why mess with a good thing? Wings just need to tweak their lineup a little. Add Forsberg and Rob Blake & I would be set with that team.

That being said I wouldn't mind seeing them all. The price is right for Mac and Forsberg and as for blake...one can never have too many hard hitting defensemen in the post season! thedisappearer 291 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 A buddy of mine said he read somewhere that Foppa wanted to make $1 mil this year after prorating, and $3mil next year. I would do it because 1- he's Forsberg, 2- we don't lose anybody and can still resign Z, and 3- i mean... he's Forsberg. I don't because 1- he's Forsberg, 2- Dammit, I want Hossa, and 3- he's Forsberg. I would pull the trigger.

Feldmarschall 9 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 uhhh, we have 5 mill All salaries taken on at this point would be prorated for the duration of the year, giving us the ability to add payrolls totaling more than our actual cap space. Picking up a five million dollar contract would incur a cap hit of less than half that.
Pskov Wings Fan 71 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 I there is a way to get Forsberg Wings should go for it. If he come it is only money against the cap. Trade will take picks/prospects away from Detroit. I am happy that Holland does not appear to be a big fan of deadline trades. In most cases they just cost too much. interminded 1 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 He's a big risk. I wonder which GM has the balls to sign him for big bucks, while there's absolutely no guarantee he can skate for let's say, half a season...

Rice 42 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 He's a big risk. I wonder which GM has the balls to sign him for big bucks, while there's absolutely no guarantee he can skate for let's say, half a season... No, he's really not. He won't cost a team any assets, so if he's signed to a one-year deal and he goes down the team is only out money. If he's signed to a multi-year deal and goes down, he's under-35 so he can be thrown on LTIR and won't count against the cap.
NeverForgetMac25 483 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 uhhh, we have 5 mill I would assume wingsfan40 was referring to the non-prorated figure. Meaning the Wings can sign players with a yearly salary totaling $14 million come the trade deadline. sign Forsberg a one year deal. Its been reported that Forsberg is looking for a multi-year deal. I've been saying all season that adding a guy like Forsberg is the best option for the team. Vitrually no risk, with the potential of very high reward. People just need to get past the old Avalanche sweater because there's no legitimate reason not to take a chance on him.
WingsZR2 1 Report post Posted February 1, 2008 Its been reported that Forsberg is looking for a multi-year deal. Would it be possible to sign him for 2 years and pay him more this year and make the back end of the contract incentive laden so we still have cap space for 08-09? The risk of going after Forsberg is that we might pass up on someone like Sundin or Hossa, and then Forsberg will get hurt for us, meaning that we lost out on some good players taking him instead.
