Toni Lydman to Wings?

I dunno how you guys feel about this, but this guy isn't making any sense with this deal...

Hockey News' writer Ken Campbell with proposed deadline trades, In the latest edition of the Hockey News (vol 61, No.18), writer Ken Campbell proposed 13 possible trades and here they are:

To Detroit: Toni Lydman

To Buffalo: Jonathan Ericsson or Cory Emmerton

Ericsson would probably doing just as good or better than this guy, and Emmerton will be a solid 2nd or 3rd liner in the near future for our Red Wings.

He also says:

To Detroit: Sergei Fedorov

To Columbus: Tomas Kopecky

Which I might actually take him up on, this one doesn't sound like too bad of a deal, thoughts?

I'd take Feds for Kopecky straight up but they might want more like a dman. I wouldn't give up Ericsson. They can have Meech or a low draft pick. If we made a trade like that and brought in Blake, after they moved lines around we'd be unstoppable (like we already are now).

ZDH

Flip Feds Franzen

Cleary Hudler Sammy

Downey/Drake Draper Maltby

Lids Rafalski

Kronwall Blake

Cheli Lebda/Lilja

Obviously one or two of these guys might leave in a trade.

I would like to also adress this concept that we should bring back pieces of our past like Feds and Mac. WHY?!?!?! We are doing fantastic and will only get better with time. We have prospects and players and a foundation in place to win now.

I say don't push anything until Lids retires, then you can start acting crazy.

I'd rather Tallinder if we're getting a Buffalo D-man. Both are primarily defensive guys, but I think Tallinder is the better shutdown defenseman and brings more of a physical presence.

tallinder and lilja have some history together. might be a little chemistry there.

Lydman has outhit Tallinder 104 to 24 this season.

How many times has Lydman been outmuscled? Tallinder?

'Physical presence' is not about the number of hits you throw. It's about being able to physically impose your will on the game.

Case in point: Kris Draper vs Eric Godard. Draper has many more hits, but Godard brings more physical presence.

Tallinder's biggest advantage over Lydman is the fact that Tallinder is one of the top shut-down type defensemen in the NHL...while Lydman is second-tier in that respect.

How about you tell me? At last Lydman is making an attempt to outmuscle.

I'm not buying random assertions that Tallinder has some sort of physical edge that Lydman doesn't possess. Sorry. Lydman registers more hits and blocks more shots. He's a bit looser with the puck, but we're not exactly in dire need for a puck mover. If he can get the puck to his partner, we're fine.

Oh and the reason Godard has no hits is because he can't skate and he doesn't play. Yet he registers a hit every 10.8 minutes whereas Draper notches one every 12.5 minutes. A bit silly to look at raw hit totals when one guy plays 3 times as much as the other. ;)

I'd rather have a decent puck mover with a physical upside than the other way around. Esp considering how the Wings play.
