Drimo 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Impressive comeback by the Wings tonight. Like Mickey said, you gotta wonder who is holding their breath thinking "how are the Wings going to come back and steal this again?"
CUJO#31 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Woo, that was fun. It's almost more enjoyable when they steal a victory like that. Because, as everybody has said, they really didn't deserve two points tonight, but it says a lot about the team that they were able to get 'em. Without question, Hasek is the star of the game. He kept them in it and made some big saves, including a huge one in overtime. Good stuff. I keep falling more in love with this team. It's sort of silly. And, hey, good for Brett Lebda. He's been solid all year, and he deserves a big game winner like this. Nice job, boys. I had to work...couldn't watch...
sibiriak 84 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Did anyone else have technical difficulties with the CenterIce picture in the last 3 min and OT? I DVRed the game and the picture was lost and the sound became intermittent at about 2:48 left and never came back. Was there a problem with the feed or is it my DVR? I had the same problem with the 2nd and most of the 3rd periods of the last game as well.
12Newf 0 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 i watched the game on sopcast like i always do but wow...the wings gave up more odd man rushes and breakaways than pretty much any game this year. haha what a team we have! fans have no worries because obviously we'll win somehow even if it is off a horrible angle shot by danny cleary standing still! p.s. i didnt read this whole thread but did anyone else notice the horrible officiating? i thought every single penalty was b.s including the one minny took. Packer487 3 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 lkdflkdgksjfglkjdf;lgs!!!! Sorry, Reem! I am borrowing from you! Dom's perfect winning record remains perfect! 12-0-0- lifetime. Player of the Game, that's my man. For those who've wanted him to win a game on his own -- he just did that tonight. Congrats to Danny Cleary. He is clutch, indeed... and Kopay was great tonight. The Wings showed up in the last 10 minutes of this game, just enough to win it. I'll take it. 55 Fan was at this game. She must be a mess from screaming her head off right now. I was thinking the same thing. I think people are forgetting at least a couple, but there's no question tonight that Hasek stole that game. That was one of the worst performances I've seen in a LONG time, but they got it together in the second half of the game and luckily got it done. Hasek played out of his mind though. This team is absolutely ridiculous. BTW, Lemaire is going to kill his team about their backside defense. That Lebda goal wasn't all that dissimilar from Franzen's (or the chance Franzen missed moments before). How do you have 4 guys back and no one covers Lebda. For a defensive team like Minnesota, that's inexcusable.
Packer487 3 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 (edited) 3 stars: 1) Lebda 2) Backstrom 3) Burns, who was even with an assist. Seriously, WTF? Edited February 6, 2008 by Packer487
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 (edited) Wow... it would seem even the most useless of players can score at important times. Congrats to Brett Lebda: that's probably the last compliment you'll get from me all season, so savor it. Hasek played phenominal. What a great job he did. He really kept the Wings in the game, since the defense was playing so terrible tonight *coughMeechcough*. Hasek really stood on his head, and he played a great game. Great to see he's coming around, and finding his game. ...and of course, there's Dan Cleary. Keep him around for as long as you can, Wings management, because he's so key to the Wings success. If Holland let's him get away... ooh, will the insults come flying in... even more so than before. Edited February 6, 2008 by Kp-Wings

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 You may be a fan of his, but I'm not. Don't criticize me over it. Just because he plays for the team I root for, doesn't mean I have to like him. Besides: I complimented him. Something I don't often do.

I wasnt meaning to criticize you, just I have a difference of opinion. If we are talking about the most useless player, I would say Drake wins that

Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 (edited) If we are talking about the most useless player, I would say Drake wins that Haha... I won't deny that. If it wasn't for the fact that he can kill penalties, he'd be toast on this team. I swear, that quality alone is what keeps these extinct players like Drake alive in the NHL, since the Wings value the ability to have 20 guys that can kill penalties. I commend Drake for sticking up for Lidstrom earlier in the season, but when the Wings signed him, I was under the impression he was going to play physical, something he has not done at all. Oh well... having Drake around gives me yet another whipping boy for me to rag on... Edited February 6, 2008 by Kp-Wings

Disappointment all around. The first few games when he had those fights I figured if he kept it up I would start to like him more. After his injury and the face mask he just hasnt done anything. I would much rather have Downey in every game.

55fan 5,133 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 Just got home and read the GDT. I found the Hasek haters. They're in the XL wearing Wild clothing. I actually screamed "I love you Hasek" after one save, and I'm an Ozzie fan. Minn had the puck way too much if you ask me. I was sitting next to the penalty box. I swear, they are trained to look at anything but the person with the camera. When Drapes was in, I yelled to him to tell McCarty we're proud of him. He didn't look my direction, but nodded slightly, so I think he heard me. You think you were complaining about the refs in the GDT? The Minny fans were really upset during the 4 minute penalty. They had wanted only 2, or they wanted a Wing in the box too. I just sat really still and smiled from ear to ear. That's it for the GDT- rest of it is girl talk, so I'll be heading over there. My first pro sporting event ever! It was so awesome!
Yemack 1 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 (edited) Alright it was really funny game I think we came out actually playing pretty well. I think we were in proper state of mind not taking them too lightly. However, what we didn't know was that they were going to play the best hockey of their season. After they scored 2 goals and weak calls really let our steams out, they were just giving it to us and we really had no answer while the fans were on top of them Wild denied any sort of plays that would give momentum to go our side. I think this is where some heavy hitters would have brought it back to us. We tried to get out of the situation by stickhandlingin and skilling it without actually sacrificing any of our body. Wild were having none of it and had all the momentum in the world. (as for you CI viewers, the feed was terrible, which furthur fueled my anger) I don't have to tell you we got lucky they didnt assert themselves like first 2 in last period. We started to make some plays and finally momentum was on our side with Cleary capping it. So what can we learn from this? well it has been second straight game that teams we faced admitted they played their best game of season. So we really need to start having more killer instincts. Don't look to far, and forget about winning the game, do everything you can to get the first goal while being relentless not letting them any chance to get momentum. After we get the first goal, we should push heavily to get the second goal. After that, we should check heavily so that they lose their will to comeback and fight. (of course easier said than done but key being 'relentless for short term goal') It feels good to see we can get a win out of games like this one because it gives team a confidence down the road. But I would rather not spend those lucky coins during regular season which we will need plenty of during playoff. As for our offence, we have alot of skills going in our line up but dont you think we are maybe trying to be little 'too' perfect for our own good? How many times have you seen Wings player behind the net looking for someone to pass up the board while there is someone right in crease? Maybe instead of passively giving it up the board and risking it through battle, they should just take it to net and see what happens on rebound? Other teams will be scrambling like crazy and since we aren't really gonna destroy anybody with bonecrunching check, plays like this will bring some momentum back to us. Besides why try to beat goaltender cleanly with low percentage shot and letting that goalie gain more confidence from easy save? Let them and their goalie scramble like crazy and put pressure on them I would say. I undersatnd we have enough skills to make tic tac toes in many situation and I wouldn't want to let them stop doing that but putting it past the line is all that matters in the end. Games from now is going to battle where there is a good chance that teams will play very close the their best games of the season against us. Maybe playing solid hockey will not be good enough from now on just like in playoff. So what do we do now? Like I said, maybe instead of playing well and try to get a win, we could start thinking in short term and press heavily for first two goal (which is as good as win anyway). And more importantly, just take it to net if there is nothing going on! which will be beneficial to us for so many different reasons. Ok that's my semi rambling. Just like many of you I was so happy we won last game, heck I was happy we got point out ot it. Boy, are Kings gonna get it next game... p.s what do you guys think of Drake? I was thinking his game will pickup towards playoff but Is he really contributing much over Downey or Ellis? Maybe Babcock feels more comfortable putting him out there in more situation than them but ... what does that amount to? jim3033 1 Report post Posted February 6, 2008 It seemed to be a game focused on getting the third and fourth lines going. Hasek proved himself ready for the playoffs yet again after a tough start to the season. Hudler missed the net when he was set up a couple of times. Drake was playing a pretty physical game which was good to see (for playoffs). Overall they played pretty flat in the first two periods and seemed better, but not by much, in the third. Hopefully Hudler, Filppula, Sammy and Lebda get better without the assistance of Zetterberg and Dats come playoff time. I liked how Franzen played in the first. That was a game where Kronwall would have really helped.
