Most amazing Wings stat

the thing is: it means exactly s* when playoffs start.

I'd rather see us land a dependable D-man and an experienced 2nd line guy

who can chip some goals in. and keep my fingers crossed for some good karma.

regular season doesn't really count

Agreed.

On one hand I really love this stat, but on the other hand, it scares the s*** out of me. This team - better than any other in the league - knows that come playoff time, the regular season gets thrown out the window. The last thing I want is this team to get comfortable and start resting on their laurels. Thankfully, I know we have enough character in our locker room, both players and coaches, that this isn't going to happen. Add to that the fact that we have management that will do anything it takes to win, and ya, im pretty excited for playoff time!

If I recall correctly that's the stat Scotty Bowman looks at to determine how good a team is. The greater the differential the better the team.

if I recall correctly Bowman's determining stat was: PK% + PP% > 100%

yeah i don't want to pull a "new england patriots " this season.

btw, i was at the wings game here in boston. ive never seen a bigger group of idiots then boston sports fans. seems like they like their sports franchises more than the actual game itself.

I've been telling people this is the best I've seen the Wings play. They're all over their opponents, more so that normal. While waiting to get my hair cut today, I was reading an article about Lidstrom from SI. Nick said that this team is playing as well defensivly than they did in 2002, I hope it continues in the playoffs.

Yeah Scotty would say take the number you are ranked in PK in the league and add it to the number you are ranked in PP in the league. If it's less than 10, you're good.

i disagree that regular season doesn't mean anything. i know why people say that, but would you rather the team just squeek by and make the playoffs? no, we're are comfortably the best team in the league and we have incredible stats. (by "we" i mean the wings, ha). the regular season might get pushed aside once playoffs start but ya play every game regular or playoffs to win and they are. am i making any sense?

Absolutely you are. The fact of the matter is that, just like in the playoffs, everyone is trying to win JUST AS MUCH in the regular season, so it bodes quite well that we are having this much success.

You just have to hope that the regular season success doesn't make the boys more submissive, over-confident, and feel that they don't have to work any less hard. Foretunately, with this team, I just don't foresee that as a problem.

1996 Wings: +144

1977 Canadiens: +216 (amazing)

1976 Canadiens: +163

I haven't tried to check to see what other teams might have great stats like this, I just went and checked the obvious (checked the Oilers as well, I think their best was +132 (several years of +100 or better)

I was at the game (and I am a upset pats fan but at the pats not the Giants (whose D was incredible) :ranting: ), but a lot of Red Sox and Pats fans are forgetting what it was like when the teams absolutely sucked!

Which is something I am starting to feel about some Wings fans as well.

But as I was leaving me and my friend had our wing's jerseys on, and a guy with a B's jersey on his way out uttered that oh so classic phrase:

Red Wings Suck

So my friend and I plus a couple of random wings fans started chanting scoreboard as we were walking out the back door just a head of him, the whole way down the winding back stairs. Man it was priceless!!! :siren:

My only concern about regular season stats like this are that teams tend to get fat and lazy feeding on stats like these, and then hungry teams like, oh i don't know Edmonton Oilers maybe, come in and steal our lunch.

I love seeing stats like these, but I hate seeing stats like these shoved down our throats in the playoffs. Hopefully it doesn't happen this year, but we already know that we have the best regular season team in the league, we have for years. We need the best playoff team in the league to round out the incredibility factor of stats like these.

I don't want to be a natterin' naybob, I just don't want stats like these inflating any egos, or over confidating our boys. I'd rather see them enter the playoffs like the lowest seed in the league; hungry and snarling for the cup. Ready to bite off arms if they get in the way of them and the drink.

Just the view from my seat though.
