Aussie_Wing 354 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Absolutley pathetic effort by everyone not named Zetterberg. Can I ask why Matt Ellis was in the lineup? That guy brings nothing at all to the team. At least with Drake, all be it the dinosaur he is, he'll at least give you one rare hit a game. Ellis doesn't do s***. I know it's the LA Kings, but unless there are injuries, that guy shouldn't be in the lineup. One thing I noticed tonight was that it seemed like career underachiever Brad Stuart was playing harder than I've ever seen him play. He really had a hell of a game. I'm wondering if he was trying to make a case for the Wings management, because it's been rumored he'd be coming here... On a positive note, since there weren't many, I got to watch the game in HD tonight, and man, what a difference! The picture is so much better. I now know the expierence of watching sports in HD. I know he's not much better but I like Hartigan and I think he offers this team a lot more than Ellis does. But since we're discussing what players bring to the table, can someone PLEASE tell me what Maltby does? I know he's cheap, and he's a Red Wings guy, but seriously, I'd rather Helm... Yemack 1 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 well we had to lose at some point. strangely I dont have that usual frustration after wings loss tonight. I don't know why I just hope, we don't continue to slide next game.
Z and D for the C 712 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Some of you are so damn spoiled with wanting to win all the time it's pathetic. They won their last 8, GOD forbid they lose one. I don't care so much just that they lost, but I just really want them to get 10 in a row. We had a really good shot at it facing toronto on saturday. I'm just kinda bummed about that. *resists temptation to talk about goaltenders*

HockeyCrazy3033 168 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Oh wait, it's the blind Osgood lover. If you say anything remotely bad about him, you're the spawn of Satan. Carry on. Aww that hurts my feelings! If I was so called blind then I would have said he had no chance on any of the goals, and I also would of just blamed the game on the entire team instead of him if that were the case. Grow up. The bias/blind comments are getting old. You come on here saying that if Osgood was a 'good goalie' he should of stopped one of the good goals? So because he has a bad game against the worst team in the league, discredits him of being a really good goaltender? I guess that washes away his fantastic season thus far too eh? And this is where me replying to you anymore ends because there's absolutely no point.
Creasemonkey 30 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Ouch. That was old school blow it in the 3rd Wings hockey right there, and against the Kings no less. That playoff loss is still fresh enough in my mind for that to sting a little bit.
DRW Dominance 255 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 This is good for the Wings. They got lucky against the Wild and lost tonight. You're not gonna play well every game. That's just the way it goes. Hopefully they show up for the Leafs though. I know way too many Leaf fans to have to deal with that.

Any team can beat any other team on any given night. It's hockey. I don't see the big deal in it at all.
Guest Crymson Report post Posted February 8, 2008 (edited) Yeah, I'm so spoiled and totally called out the whole team and am totally jumping ship. I mean, they don't stand a chance at winning anything now. Stop putting words into my mouth. Haha. But seriously, "ZOMG WE LOST A GAME BY TWO GOALS AND GAVE UP FOUR IN THE THIRD, WE ARE NOW TERRIBLE, WE CAN'T EVER HOLD UP TO A SEVEN GAME SERIES WITH ANAHEIM, HOLLAND NEEDS TO MAKE SOME MOVES, ZOMG. WHAT? WE WON THE LAST 8? THAT DOESN'T MATTER.. ZOMG, WE LOST A GAME AND GAVE UP FOUR IN THE THIRD! WE ARE SCREWED FOR THE PLAYOFFS!!" That's pretty much the size of it. Everyone who is screaming 'catastrophe!' and predicting doom needs to shut up and get it into perspective that teams have bad games at times. Feel fortunate that the Wings have less bad games than any other team in the league this season. Edited February 8, 2008 by Crymson

RedWingsFanatic 4 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Riight. Because being 3-0-0 with a 1.00 goals against, and a 96.4% in his last three games is just god awful. Totally not stellar. Well, I'm not sure where you are getting your stats from. He played very well against Boston, though the first goal was a bit questionable. He was equally up to the task against Phoenix. But, he gave up four goals in two periods against Atlanta and five, including losing in the shootout, to Minnesota in the two previous starts. You combine that with tonight's game, and it's four or more goals in three of his last five starts, and it might be time for Hasek to get some more starts. Again, I love Chris Osgood as much as anybody, but he hasn't been quite the same since signing his big contract and starting the All-Star Game. Hasek has been so hot lately, you almost are forced to go with him on a more regular basis.
puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 seriously low-level effort from the Wings tonight, almost a continuation of the slide that was evident in the Wild game on Tuesday. I think it was bound to happen eventually, but they are too good to continue to drop off like this. Here's to a better effort from all on Saturday, right? It is interesting how they tend to play sloppy in front of "bad" teams, isn't it? Some strange hockey pysche that I don't understand, but it sure seems to be a trend with this club. Maltby? i love maltby because he is our most consitant checker, plays great defence.. do you expect him to have an insane amount of offensive production? if you do, maybe thats why you dislike him, because as is, he is exceeding his job title. Maltby is fine he does nothing wrong he is perfect. There is no difference between Hartigan and Ellis, both suck. and will never amount to anything in the nhl. Im glad you'd rather have players on the roster who barely cut it in the ahl, be thrown into the nhl. I think i made it like..20 post's without being a dick.. Sadly it had to end today. I don't dislike Maltby. Just because I think he offers this team little doesn't mean I dislike the guy. 2. Hartigan is in a similar boat to Ellis, I'm not denying that. He'd be a 4th line energy guy, and I think he'd do a better job than Ellis, that is all.
Yzermaniac192005 0 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 haha hey Hockeytown, lets calm down!....... OK, so deep breaths here. I think its so funny how some of you act like its the end of the world that we lost one game. So the Kings beat us, big deal. Yeah it was in an ass-whooping fashion but honestly guys, the Wings made the mistake of looking past the Kings tonight. They played bad hockey and got burnt because of it. Ozzie wasn't on top of his game, but after his stellar outings, he's entitled to a bad one now and then. And yeah, there goes another winning streak but hey lets just start up another. The Wings will do fine and to be honest, the win record really isn't a concern of mine. Last time I checked, when we won 62 games, we kind of didn't even make it to the Finals. Either way, lets all chill, get ready for what should be a great game Saturday and thank God we aren't Kings fans - because you know this win is bittersweet for them

But since we're discussing what players bring to the table, can someone PLEASE tell me what Maltby does? I know he's cheap, and he's a Red Wings guy, but seriously, I'd rather Helm... I think a bag of beans could offer more to the team than Ellis. He'll never amount to anything in the NHL. If the Wings want energy guys, why don't they try playing players who actually provide energy? Ellis doesn't do that at all. I wouldn't see the difference in playing Downey over Ellis. It just seems like guys who fight get a bad repuation with this organization anymore, and I seriously can't figure out the reason why. At least fighters provide a certain element to the lineup. The Wings have too many guys like Ellis that provide absolutley nothing at all. He's not even used on the PK, so why exactly do the Wings still continue to have him? On the subject of Maltby: he's grown steadily useless over the years, but, I'm a bit biased towards him. Besides that, he's still better than Ellis, when it comes down to it. puckloo39 5,686 Report post Posted February 8, 2008 Dom will be ready on Sat.! Dom's always ready. So's Ozzie. It's the rest of them I am worried about. Not really, though. I think they were due for a stinker, and needed a kick in the pants. If this wasn't it, I don't know what would be. Poor LA, this has to be a slightly bittersweet win. They have to know they didn't beat the 'real' Red Wings.
