Wings_Dynasty 267 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 With Danny out for the rest of the regular season for sure now be sure that a trade will be made for a second line guy that can score. To those blaming Sammy He may suck but how the hell is this his fault??? Just because he shot the puck at the net (his job) and Danny was screening the goalie (his job) and some bad s*** happened doesn't mean its Sammy's fault.... I don't think it's entirely Sammy's fault. But it was not a deflected shot and it wasn't a fluttering puck and it was shot from 15-20' away and it hit him in the face. Cleary is 6'1". That's a high shot. I can see why some are mad.
Lou_Siffer 1 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 NOOOOOOOOOOOOO! That sucks Not that they'd want it this way im sure, but i guess this does somewhat help the cause of the bring back McCarty camp here. Not that theyd call him up now, but in the future it would allow them to do so without actually sending down anybody who's currently here.
Kp-Wings 3 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 Leave it to my most hated Wing to take out one of my favorites yeah yeah...im not serious as i know it wasnt intentional, but figures it would go down like that! Same way I felt about it. I can't believe he's actually done for the rest of the season. That is such a huge loss to the team. Holland better do something at the deadline now, as the Wings are in dire need of secondary scoring with Cleary going down like that.

Cleary's gritty passionate play in the playoffs last year was really key too, who knows how he's going to play when he returns. Now the Wings need even more grit as well as scoring. Kenny's definitely got some work to do....luckily Ryan Malone helps to address both.
Dabura 12,232 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Come on, guys, we'll be fine. Our offense is totally stacked.
GMRwings1983 8,804 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 This injury is all Gary Bettman's fault. Now we have to hope that when he comes back for the playoffs, he won't be too rusty to contribute offensively. The only good news here is that Holland is tempted now to after some more grit, or a top 6 forward.

Cleary IMO is the 4th most important player on this team, he does everything and he's girtty too. He isnt afraid to drop the mits if need be, he'll hit score goals, kill penalties, stand in front of the net on the powerplay. Kenny has to do 2 things now. Re-sign Cleary so he can actually get that career year next year, and get us some secondary scoring with GRIT.

That is SOOOO unbelievably absurd. Do you see how many shots go high in the course of ANY game? SHEESH. Get over yourselves, people. HOCKEY IS A DANGEROUS GAME. When one stands in front of the net with his face toward the puck, what do you think will happen? I'll say here what I've yelled at Cleary probably dozens of times via the Television: WEAR A VISOR! Barrie 900 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 Count me as one of the guys who can't stand it when Sammy shots like a mad man, but you can't blame him for the injury. Anytime players are infront of the net, there's a risk of getting hit by a shot. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often. Maybe after this, Sammy will be more selective before taking shots. Injuries happen all the time, atleast we have a huge lead in the standings, and Cleary will be back for the playoffs.
detroitdan 0 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 man, I like Cleary just as much as anyone on this board, but this was a freak accident...Sammy wasn't aiming for his head...get a life
wingslogo19 281 Report post Posted February 10, 2008 This was a bad injury but nothing Cleary could do, soon as he turned around the puck was there... I really hope Cleary makes a quick recovery, and that he plays in your face hockey when he does return
SouthernWingsFan 854 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 I don't care if I get reamed for saying this, but some of you seriously are acting like little s**ts towards Samuelsson because of this incident. No one in here would be saying squat towards Lidstrom or Rafalski or anybody else if they shot this puck. I understand being upset that Cleary is injured, but Samuelsson does not deserve this treatment for this incident. Grow up.
auxlepli 17 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Cleary needs to get back soon because he can do what Holmstrom can't. Well that's not entirely accurate. He does the same thing as Homer he just doesn't get called for it. Had it been Cleary not in the crease, then today's game probably would've gone to OT. Lidstrom would not (and has not) done that because he knows to keep the puck at waist level or below when someone is screening. I play the role of Holmstrom on my team and the guys know to keep the puck at my waist when I'm screening. I just watched the replay and Cleary's head was well above the crossbar, there's no way that Sammy should have shot that high. Perhaps he just messed up, but he shouldn't be taking shots like that if he can't control them. That's my two cents as a player who exposes his body to shots in front of the goal every game I play. I think I get what you are saying, but if that's the case why even shoot at all? Is it worth Cleary even going in front of the net to get hurt then? What about Shanahan in 2001 in the playoffs against the Kings blocking that slapper that messed his ankle/foot up, should he have not sacrificed his body at all then? I guess I shouldn't have tried to block that guy's shot when I tore my ACL up years and years ago in a pick-up basketball game and we collided. Samuelsson should still continue to shoot (like the coach suggests he does), Cleary should still play his game and go to the front of the net when possible, Shanahan was going to sacrafice his body on the play every time 100 times, and I was going to do the same thing 100 times trying to block/disrupt the guy's shot on defense. I understand Samuelsson is a whipping boy in here so it is to be expected that he takes more flack than usual whether it is justified or not, and I understand we are all upset with Cleary being out for an extended time period (myself included), but I'm still going to say that for some members in here to sling dirt and get on his case this badly for this situation is just really low and immature. I highly doubt Samuelsson woke up Saturday and said, "You know what, I'm going to intentionally just injure one of my teammates by shooting a puck full speed at his face." That's ridiculous. Accidents happen in every sport.
Inultus 12 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Accidents happen in every sport. And that is what it comes down to. I don't think Sammy did it on purpose, I don't think it's impossible that someone else could have done that. I simply think that he should concentrate on keeping his shots down. I mean, even if Cleary had been able to get a stick on that shot and deflect it in, it would have been a high stick b/c it was above the crossbar. I'm assuming that shot just got away from Sammy and that he didn't intend to shoot it that high. And when it comes to Sammy, I agree why shoot at all. I don't mind when he shoots on breakaways or up close, but most of the time he shoots from the point and his shots get blocked b/c he doesn't wait for an open lane. I wish he would pass instead of shoot but that's JMO.
Icer 0 Report post Posted February 11, 2008 Cleary IMO is the 4th most important player on this team Cleary is a good player but he is not even close to the 4th most important player. A starting goalie is an important player. A first line center is an important player. Your top two defensemen are important players. Your top powerplay unit are important players. Your top penalty kill unit are important players. Cleary is none of these things. He's a 2nd line winger. There's half a dozen guys on this team that can pick up his minutes and do just as good.
