WingNutt 12 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 (edited) I was reading some articles online and thought I should post this, Pavel is a witty guy and I thought everyone would enjoy this, if you have any other funny quotes by Pavel or other Wings players please share as well. Pavel Datsyuk's sense of humor doesn't always come out in articles and TV interviews. But he is one clever guy. I asked him once about his on-ice vision, trying to find out how many of the other nine players he is aware of when he's passing. "When you have the puck, how many people do you see?" Without smiling, Datsyuk answered, "18,000" He was joking ... wasn't he? Edited February 15, 2008 by WingNutt

kozac 10 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Yeah, he likes to goof around with the press, especially with the russians. I've read some funny russian interviews with him in the past. He's always sarcastic, i think we will see more of it as he becomes more comfortable with the english language. Another one was after that Phoenix game when he scored the game-winner with a couple of minutes to go that made Wayne lose it on the bench. In the interview they asked why he decided to put on the brakes and shoot like he did. He said that he had no more energy and was tired so he stopped. I loved the look on Wayne's face as well priceless. I just wish I could find the video of the pre-game interview he did on New Years, I was on vacation in Florida and missed it, I heard he yelled at the end of the interview HAPPY-NEW YEAR!. or something along those lines, also think he was kidding around about filppula. VM1138 1,921 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Datsyuk is great. I love how Ken Daniels pumps him up all the time every game. I think Datsyuk is starting to come into his own off the ice. Prior to this year, I don't remember ever hearing him talk, other than a brief, generic in-game interview. This year, he's getting more comfortable, and his struggle with the English language makes his jokes all the funnier. Why doesn't the marketing department jump on things like this. Everyone talks about how having foreigners hurt the chances for popularity, yet everyone has a warm spot in their hearts for a lovable guy who can barely speak the language. Instead of takign it so seriously, why don't we have billboards with broken English jokes? Or TV commercials using humor instead of drama?

Datsyuk says, "Shoop ot Ookeytoon Outentics! Buy my Merchindisse!"

WingNutt 12 Report post Posted February 15, 2008 Maybe he wasn't trying to be clever and instead just didn't understand the question. He understood him just fine alright, thats what makes it work so well for Pavel. He can play innocent while making a joke, and sometimes people can't be sure if he was joking or not, that makes for the best humor in my opinion. Like for example he did a interview with VS and before the interview he joked with them about charging them for him wearing a VS towel during the interview. At the end of the interview whoever was doing it mentioned Datsyuk saying about getting paid to wear the towel, its just his humor. Similar to the famous interview a few years back when they were done he said " are we done? ok 5 bucks" Great to have such skilled players and good all around guys on our team, seems like they all treat the fans and press good and are always in good spirits. good discussion guys carry on

Wingnutt, I have that interview on dvd and if I can ever figure out how to put it on my computer, I will get it to you. (I am not very good with things like that.) I think Pavel is a very funny guy, but we hardly ever get to see it. Mickey and Ken have been good for passing on a little bit of Pavel's humor this year and also Bruce Mcleod has done a nice job of putting in some of his jokes in his blogs.
